Roldanillo is a town and municipality located in the Department of Valle del Cauca, Colombia.
It is also a tourist hot spot and known as Colombia's flying capital. It has hosted a range of international competitions, including the paragliding world cup superfinals.
Roldanillo's Occidente bus terminal has service to Cali, Rozo, Tulua, Buga, Armenia, Cartago, and Pereira, as well as nearby towns such as Zarzal, El Dovio, Naranjal, La Union, Sevilla, Andalucia, Primavera, and La Tulia.

Visit the famous Piedra de Peñol in Guatape, Take a high altitude ride on the Nevado Ruiz Volcano, take a coffee tour in Salento as well as walking through the Wax Palms in the Valle Cocora, and as always, enjoy all the twists and turns while riding a motorcycle through some of the amazing scenery in the world.
Another cool thing about this trip is that this route through Colombian Eje Cafetero or Coffee Axis is in the top 9 routes in South America, bucket list items not to be missed for the adventure rider! according to AdventureBikeRider.com
ITINERARY
Day 1 - Medellin - Guatape
Recommended Hotel: Zocalo Campestre
We will cruise out of town in the coolness of the early morning, just as the city begins to wake, onto the highway east toward the resort town of Guatapé. About a 2 hour ride from Medellin, the colonial town of Guatapé sits on the shores of a crystal blue reservoir.
Climb the nearby “El Peñon de Guatape” for an unforgettable 360-degree view of the landscape the is known as the “the top of the rock with the best view in the world.” We will then walk the streets of the town, snapping photos of the brightly colored houses. We will also have a chance to dine on fresh empanadas and drink ice cold cerveza michelada.
Day 2 - Guatape – Sonson
Recommended Hotel: El Tesoro
We head to Sonson via a beautiful winding road with spectacular views around almost every curve. Arriving in Sonson we will stay at a 200 year old hotel filled with an amazing eclectic antique collection. We will grab a pizza on the balcony that overlooks the main square and the green countryside.
Day 3 - Sonsón to Salamina
Recommended Hotel: Casa de Lola Garcia
Today we take a short drive north to Salamina, a beautiful town located on top of a hill with steep streets which was declared a National Heritage site in 1982.
Day 4 - Free Day in Salamina
Recommended Hotel: Casa de Lola Garcia
While staying in Salamina, we leave one day aside for a trip over to the hamlet of San Felix and the nearby Samaria Valley. Here we will find the national tree of Colombia, the Quindío Wax Palm. The wax palm (also known as Palma de Cera or Ceroxylon Quindiuense) is the tallest palm in the world, and was officially adopted as a national symbol of Colombia in 1985. Found along the central and eastern Andes of Colombia, the Cocora valley of Quindío department is the popular place for visitors to see these magnificent trees that can grow up to a height of 60m (~200 ft). The trip is filled with spectacular scenery and once you arrive you feel like you have somehow discovered a special place that hardly any other foreigner has set eyes upon.
Day 5 - Salamina to Manizales
Recommended Hotel: Termales de Ruiz
Today we tackle the worlds longest road climb. Alto de Letras is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 3.679m (12,070ft) above the sea level, located in central Colombia. It’s said to be the longest road climb in the world. The climb starts at a sub-tropical 468 meters, in the town of Mariquita, and tops out at an arctic 3.679 meters. We end the day in the mountain town of Manizales located next to the Nevado de Ruiz stratovolcano.
Day 6 - Manizales to Jardin
Recommended Hotel: Casa Passiflora Boutique Hotel
Jardín, is a gorgeous and authentic colonial town and is known as the most beautiful town in Colombia. Jardín is known for its colorful houses, vibrant floral displays, and delicious milk candies. You may take a walk through the main plaza of El Libertador Park which features rose gardens, water fountains, and the neo-Gothic Basilica of the Immaculate Conception.
Day 7 - Jardin to Medellin
Recommended Hotel: Diez Hotel Categoria
Sorry dudes, today we have to go back to Medellin. The trip is beautiful though and its a great way to end an awesome motorcycle adventure in Colombia.
Colombia Part 1: Bogota to Roldanillo
We caught a direct flight from London to Bogota and arrived in the wee hours of the morning. After getting to our hotel and having a quick nana nap, we set out to explore a bit of Bogota.
We jumped on public transport and headed over to the old town of La Candelaria from our slightly posh neibourhood of Zona Rosa. First stop was the Gold Museum which is definitely worth a wander around, followed by a free (tips required) walking tour of the old town.
Unfortunately this part of town can be a bit dodgy, and we kept having local people tell us to hide our stuff an be careful (especially around the public transport, most tourists seem to use taxis), and we did witness some poor backpacker surrounded by police after being mugged on the busses.
The tour was cool though, and Zona Rosa had some great food.
We then jumped on a 9 hour bus ride from Bogota to Roldanillo, the most popular paragliding spot in Colombia. A very scenic bus ride and definitely recommended over just flying to Roldanillo.

At the time I was in Cali, Colombia and I did a google search and decided to travel to Roldanillo! Located in the Valle de Cauca, a few hours northeast of Cali, this town was charming. In this vlog, we share with you the best way to visually see Medellin and that is by paragliding Medellin Colombia also known as Parapente Medellin. This was my first time ever paragliding and you may be surprised like I was to find out how smooth the experience actually is.

Colombia Adventures
When Lina and Diego invited us to visit and fly with them in Colombia, we couldn't say no. They were the best tour guides and we had lots of fun adventures. We began our trip in Piedechinche, staying at Siga La Vaca. I didn't feel rested enough to fly solo the first day, so I took Diego up on his offer to fly me tandem. I learned a lot, but also got to take beautiful pictures and videos. We were there a couple days before we got ran out by bad weather and we drove to Roldanillo, where the British Open was happening. I was struggling to get a good solo flying day so Diego offered for me to fly him tandem and we had so much fun! It was my longest flight ever, lowest save ever, and an eye-opener for me on understanding thermal flying. Lina was a super hero. Not only was she a great tour guide, but she was our retrieve driver no matter where we ended up. The last day we flew, weather was not great. We decided to launch quickly, and we were lucky. We heard that bad weather later rolled in and some people had to hike down because vehicles couldn't get up to give them a ride. I got in a cloud and got very high, it was so lifty that I decided to spiral down to everyone else who was trying to climb up. During that flight, there was a fire burning nearby and you could see the ashes flying all around us. It was hitting our faces and getting into our wings. We had a lot of fun thermaling together and landing together. After each flight, Jarred and Shane would watch each other's track logs, so i had to tease them about it and catch it on film.
