Save Your Money, You'll Thank Us Later! Stop Buying These Things! Fulltime RV Living!

After living in our RV for two years and often being asked if we have a list of things, we bought to get started RV’ing, we decided it was time to answer that question! You’ll be surprised to learn, that despite what you may have watched on other YouTube channels, the list of “must-haves” is actually very short!

We were in the same boat as you when we got started! We read all the articles, watched all the YouTube videos and did the same research, because we didn’t want to be on the road and find ourselves in a bind! We created a very long list of things to buy and spent a lot of money on things we didn’t necessarily need, before we even traveled one mile in our RV.

This video will save you time, money and headache by solving that question of, “What exactly do I need to get started RV’ing?” Whether you will be a weekender or live in your RV fulltime, we think you should get out there and learn your rig and how you will use it, before you waste a lot of money, on things you don’t need!

We Got KICKED OUT of our RV Park | Fulltime RV Living | The Downside to Fulltime RV Life

Think there's NO DRAMA in RV life? Think again! Our video highlights what happens when you choose the wrong campground to spend a week relaxing and unwinding! While we do give some consideration to user reviews, we don't always mark a campground off our list just because of a handful of poor reviews! Unfortunately, we paid the price this time and will now consider ALL reviews that pertain to power shortages and general upkeep! Let our mistake save you the drama of dealing with a park manager that thinks your big rig is taking all the power out of their park. One highlight that came from this huge inconvenience, is that our next campground, just outside of Glacier National Park, was able to accommodate us four days early! Thanks to getting kicked out, we got to see Glacier three times instead of just once, which we originally had planned! Oh, and our new campground had plenty of electricity for ALL of the rigs in their campground and was well kept!

Best Recreational lake in the U.S.!! Lake of the Ozarks!!

Best Recreational lake in the U.S.!! Lake of the Ozarks!!

Lake Of The Ozarks (Missouri)

Lake of the Ozarks stands as one of the most attractive tourist spots in the midwest. It is also known as the best recreational lake in the country because it offers lots of exciting outdoor activities like boating and fishing. But did you know that this lake has nearly 617 billion gallons of water and was the largest man-made lake at the time of its construction?

Today, we will discuss Lake of the Ozarks and why it is so famous among tourists. Also, we will share some facts that you probably don’t know about this lake. So, be sure to stick around until the end to find out what exciting things you can do in Lake of the Ozarks.

Lake of the Ozarks is located in the northern part of the Ozarks in central Missouri. This lake has an insane 61,000 square miles of surface area with 1,150 miles of shoreline. Not just that, this lake is 92 miles long and around 130 feet deep, making it one of the largest and deepest lakes in the world. Unlike other lakes, it has a unique serpentine shape that gives it the nickname Puff The Magic Dragon.

Lake of the Ozarks was previously known as Lake Osage and Lake Benton, but today, everybody knows it as Lake of the Ozarks. The lake was constructed in 1931 and was the largest man-made lake in the United States. The purpose of its construction was to produce hydroelectric power, but gradually, it became one of the most attractive tourist destinations. Reports show that over 5 million people visit Lake of the Ozarks every year to spend their vacations like never before.

Lake of the Ozarks is an easy-to-reach destination either by car, rail or by air. So, you don’t have to worry about finding the best route to reach this lake.

Although it is a lake, it is famous for its beautiful parks. Those who visit this lake always visit two of its famous parks: Ha Ha Tonka State Park and Lake of the Ozark State Park. These two spots are also known as the most family-friendly spots in the Ozarks. Ha Ha Tonka State Park covers an area of 3,700 acres and is located on the Niangua side of the lake. This park gives attractive views of the ruins of the early 20th-century ghosty castle. Apart from this, the Ha Ha Tonka State Park is famous for hiking and water activities like swimming, fishing, and boating. This spot is also perfect for exploring geographical locations like caves and sinkholes.

The other one is Lake of the Ozark State Park. It is the largest state park in Missouri and provides easy access to the lush Ozark Mountain landscapes. It has two state park marinas providing rentals for water activities like boating and fishing. But this park is not limited to just water activities. It offers a 13-mile trail of four winds for hiking lovers to explore fascinating water views. The southeastern region of this park has several shorter hiking spots that make it the best sport for hikers to enjoy their time. And not to forget, this famous park is known for its campgrounds where you can camp and enjoy your trip.

The Bridal Cave is another attractive place that you should visit during your trip to Lake of the Ozarks. This lake is centuries old and is located near the city of Camdenton. To explore this cave, the area provides guided tours that are available throughout the year. The exciting fact about this cave is its consistent temperature which remains 60 degrees Fahrenheit. This cave is just amazing and you’ll never want to miss it out during your trip.

The Bagnell Dam in Lake of the Ozarks is yet another awesome spot to enjoy freshwater. The dam expands over 2,500 feet and its job is to produce hydroelectric power for the area. But why do people visit this dam? It is because of its engineering that gives the dam an amazing look. Not just that, the opposite side of Bagnell Dam offers classic summer activities and is full of family-friendly shops and restaurants and organizes the hot summer nights motor festival. This spot in Lake of the Ozarks is a perfect place for those who want to enjoy summer vacations with their family.

Towards the south of Osage Beach, there is the Big Surf Waterpark that remains crowded every summer. Whether you want to swim or enjoy beautiful water attractions like lazy rivers, this waterpark is what you should consider. Big Surf Waterpark is also famous for its exciting water rides including the three-story Zambezi Falls water halfpipe.

The nearby Highway 401 and Highway 7 allow this conservation area to be easily accessible from some of Southern Ontario’s major cities, such as Toronto.

History
The Rockwood Woolen Mill was established in 1867 by brothers John Richard, Thomas, and Joseph Harris, and their brother-in-law Thomas Wetherald. The firm advertised in publications in nearby cities such as Guelph, Milton, and Georgetown. The business thrived. Over the years, the mill was powered by the water of the Eramosa River, hydro, and steam.

In the 1880s, a fire harshly damaged the mill. It was replaced by a stone structure in 1884. One of the founding brothers, John Richard Harris, died in 1899; as a result, his sons took over the business. During the First World War, the mill would frequently operate 24 hours a day, securing vast orders for Canadian army blankets. The mill closed its doors in 1931, in the midst of the Great Depression.
After the closure of the mill, William Harris, son of John Richard, transformed the site into a private park named Hi-Pot-Lo Park. In 1959 the Grand River Conservation Authority obtained the mill and land from Harris, and the official opening of the park took place in 1963.

A large restoration of the mill ruins was completed over the winter of 2010, allowing it to be open to the public for the 2011 season.

The cave system includes a series of 12 caves, which is one of the most extensive networks in Ontario. Within the caves is a prominent feature called a flowstone, which over many years is created by flowing water that deposits a type of calcium carbonate called calcite.

Another feature at Rockwood is the potholes. Within the conservation area, there are over 200 potholes that all vary in measurements. These potholes are also known as giant's kettles, which are large cavities that have been drilled by flowing water carrying stones and gravel.

As well, glacial bluffs are seen at Rockwood. These have been formed over thousands of years after the earth’s most recent ice age ended. They can be relatively small and get as large as 30 meters deep and 200 meters wide.

Wildlife
While the area consists of wildlife typical to most of southern Ontario, such as deer, coyotes, raccoons, opossums, skunks, beavers, ducks, and geese. The Rockwood area has a varied supply of fish that includes perch, crappie, rock bass, sunfish, and chub.

A more recent addition to the wildlife at Rockwood has been the reintroduction of wild turkeys. Due to unregulated hunting, wild turkeys were at one point completely gone. However, eastern wild turkeys from the southern United States were introduced to this area within the past 20 years and are now permanent residents.

Activities
Camping
The Rockwood Conservation Area has around 105 campsites in four main campgrounds, serviced and unserviced campsites are available on a daily term. Other facilities include washrooms and a concession.

Fishing
Fishing is permitted within the Eramosa River. The Grand River Conservation Area and the Ministry of Natural Resources fill the waters once a year with rainbow trout with a goal to promote fishing.

Trails
With occasionally high cliffs and steep inclines, the two main trails allow hikers to travel beside the river’s edge and within the forest. Accessible by wheelchairs in most areas, these trails can be reached from either the beach or the mill ruins.

Swimming
There is a large sandy beach in the conservation area which allows visitors to go swimming during the summer. There is no beach patrol in this area, however, a life-jacket loaner program is offered.

Recreation
A mini-golf course is located near the front entrance as well as a playground for children. Canoeing is one of the more popular activities in the conservation area. Canoes, kayaks, and paddleboards can be rented on weekends during the summer.

Rockwood Nature Centre
The Grand River Conservation Authority operates the Rockwood Nature Centre in Rockwood Park. Open seasonally, the Centre offers environmental education programs in caving and geology, stream studies, orienteering and canoeing. There are family events and environmental day camp programs.

Ten Minutes of Maine: Mount Kineo, Rockwood, Maine, Moosehead Lake Region

View ten minutes of Moosehead Lake from the Indian Trail on the side of Mt. Kineo. Watch boaters leave wakes across the water and the ferry travel across the lake bringing passengers from the landing at Mount Kineo State Park back to the landing at Rockwood. This is definitely a hike worth taking, especially for the 360 degree view of Moosehead Lake from the fire tower at the top!
