Rhos-on-Sea, also known as Rhos or Llandrillo, is a seaside resort, community and electoral ward in Conwy County Borough, Wales. It adjoins Colwyn Bay. It is named after the Welsh kingdom of Rhos established there in late Roman times as a sub-kingdom of Gwynedd, and later became a cantref .
Bryn Euryn is a hill overlooking Rhos-on-Sea on which there are the remains of a hillfort called Dinerth, the 'fort of the bear', and a limestone quarry. Ednyfed Fychan, 13th century seneschal to Llywelyn the Great and ancestor to the House of Tudor was granted the land and built a castle on the hill, of which all traces have disappeared, and a manor, Llys Euryn of which the ruins of its 15th-century reconstruction can be seen today.
The 6th century St Trillo's Chapel (Capel Sant Trillo), which was the mother church of a large parish which included places as far apart as Eglwysbach and Eglwys Rhos (Llan Rhos). The chapel by the sea is on the site of a pre-Christian, sacred holy well; the altar is built directly over the pure water of the well. Saint Trillo, the son of Ithel Hael from Llydaw (Snowdonia) also founded a church at Llandrillo in Denbighshire. Trillo's brother Tygai (Llandygai) founded a church near Penrhyn, Bangor; their sister Llechid founded a church (Llanllechid) in the uplands above Penrhyn.
The poet and visual artist David Jones visited Rhos-on-Sea in 1904 when he was 9. It was his first ever trip to Wales and it made an enormous impression on him. His father's family lived in Rhos, and the young Jones played with his cousins at St. Trillo's Chapel, and on Bryn Euryn. He also particularly loved the fishing weir just a few yards from St. Trillos. These were formative influences both on his writing and visual art. He wrote that this visit left 'an indelible mark on my soul'. In 1937, after the death of his mother, Jones revisited Rhos. He found it a 'wilderness of villas and bungalows'. The fishing weir had gone (there remain a few stumps), and the chapel was now 'cleared and cared for', but it had 'lost half its numinous feeling'.
Llandrillo yn Rhos Church was built on the site of Ednyfed Fychan's private chapel and incorporates what was his tombstone, the history of this church goes back to the 13th century, but having been rebuilt over the centuries, the oldest parts of the present church are 15th century. A major restoration was carried out in 1857 and was criticised by some for amounting to 'vandalism', in particular the destruction of an ancient stained glass window. Nevertheless, it remains one of the most important historic buildings in North Wales. The stone lych-gate was built in 1677 and is one of the oldest in the district, the sundial is from the early 18th century.
In 1186 Llywelyn the Great permitted the establishment of the Cistercian Aberconwy Abbey, and the monks built a fishing weir on the sea shore below Bryn Euryn. The place became known as Rhos Fynach, heath of the monks. In a charter of 1230, Llywelyn sanctioned the purchase by Ednyfed Fychan of land at Rhos Fynach and in 1289, the abbey moved to Maenan (becoming Maenan Abbey), and the weir was ceded to Ednyfed's estate. Eventually Rhos Fynach and the weir came into the hands of Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester, who in 1575 granted it to a Captain Morgan ap John ap David, a privateer, for services rendered against the enemies of Queen Elizabeth I at sea. (This is not the famous pirate of the Caribbean Captain Henry Morgan who lived in the century following).
Perhaps Rhos-on-Sea's greatest claim to fame is that, according to legend, Madog ap Owain Gwynedd, a Welsh prince of Gwynedd, sailed from here in 1170 and discovered America, over three hundred years before Christopher Columbus's famous voyage in 1492. This event is recorded by a plaque on one of the properties on the sea-front. This property is called Odstone at no. 179, Marine Drive which, as of June 2012, has become neglected.

Why You SHOULD Visit Llandudno! - Seafront Tour, North Wales
Llandudno is a coastal town in North Wales. It’s known for North Shore Beach and 19th-century Llandudno Pier, with shops and a games arcade. Northwest of town, the cliffs of Great Orme headland jut into the sea. Ancient tunnels lead to a cavern at Great Orme Mines. A 1902 tramway has an upper and lower section, and travels to the headland’s summit. To the east, smaller headland Little Orme is a nature reserve. In 2022 the Great Orme Tramway will celebrate its 120th anniversary, yet each year thousands of people still take immense pleasure in travelling to the summit of the Great Orme in an original early twentieth century tramcar. Others prefer to wind their way around the headland, admiring some of the most strikingly beautiful and dramatic scenery, which is visible only from the Marine Drive. This four mile shelf was cut out of the sheer limestone cliffs in 1878 and is designed for vehicles and walkers alike. Alternatively, it is possible to catch a bus in opposte the Pier and go on an informative and visually rewarding sight-seeing tour of the Orme.

Deganwy is a small town in Conwy County Borough in Wales with a population of 3,936. It lies in the Creuddyn Peninsula alongside Llandudno and Rhos-on-Sea. Historically part of Caernarfonshire, it is in a more English-speaking region of north Wales, with only 1 in 4 residents speaking Welsh as a first language. It is located south of Llandudno and to the east of Conwy, which is on the opposite side of the River Conwy, and with which it forms the Conwy community.
Indeed, the name Deganwy has been interpreted in modern times as Din-Gonwy, which would mean Fort on the River Conwy, but the historical spellings make it impossible for this to be the actual origin of the name although mentioned in Domesday Book is the territory of the Decanae tribe. The original wooden castle was rebuilt in stone after 1210. Deganwy is in the ecclesiastical parish of Llanrhos, and has a Victorian era Gothic parish church dedicated to All Saints.
Deganwy's most notable feature is Deganwy Castle, situated 110 m above the town, which, in the 6th century was fortified as the stronghold of Maelgwn Gwynedd, king of Gwynedd. Deganwy appears to have been the capital of Gwynedd at this time, but this was later moved to Aberffraw on Anglesey. The hill on which the castle was built was fortified many times over the centuries. It was the site of a Norman castle built around 1082 and occupied by Robert of Rhuddlan, and later by Llywelyn the Great and Llywelyn ap Gruffudd. The castle was later demolished by Edward I when Conwy Castle was built opposite so that only ruins remain today.
Deganwy has a railway station on the Llandudno branch line with an hourly train service, available on request, to and from Manchester Piccadilly and intermediate stations. The LNWR built at Deganwy a rail connected riverside quay and wharfs, largely for the purpose of exporting slate by coastal steamer. The slate was brought by rail from Blaenau Ffestiniog. A marina with its accompanying housing and hotel accommodation was established on the site of the former slate wharfs early in the 21st century.

Rhos-on-Sea Walk: Town Centre & Beach【4K】
Located on the north coast of Wales, in Conwy County Borough, and around 40 miles west of the England-Wales border, is the town of Rhos-on-Sea, or Llandrillo-yn-Rhos in Welsh.
The town is named after the Welsh kingdom of Rhos, which in turn means 'moorland' in Welsh. The kingdom was established shortly after the Roman exit of Britain in the 5th century.
In the 12th century a monastery known as Rhos Fynach was built. This was home to the monks who fished the weir off Rhos Point to provide the catch for the larger monastery in Conwy at the time. The building has since been converted to a pub/restaurant.
Although a small town comparatively, much of Rhos-on-Sea's growth can be attributed to its geographic proximity to Colwyn Bay, situated just a mile east. When the Chester and Holyhead Railway linked the North Wales coast to England in the mid 19th century, tourists began visiting in increasing volumes. Colwyn Bay's growth in earnest began from around 1875 when a Manchester business syndicate bought land in the area, transforming it into what would become the largest town by population on the North Wales coast. Visitors to Colwyn Bay can reach Rhos-on-Sea on foot via a 20-minute coastal walk. Local bus services are also available.
During the 1890s a 430-metre/1400ft pier was constructed on Rhos Promenade. The company responsible for the pier went bust in 1896, possibly on account of there being no landing stage for paddle steamers. This was rectified in 1897 under new ownership, and the steamers started to arrive from areas including Liverpool, Rhyl and Conwy. In 1917 a storm took away the landing stage, and the pier became a loss-maker. After changing hands several times, the pier came into council ownership in 1952 and was demolished the following year.

Rhos-on-Sea (Welsh: Llandrillo-yn-Rhos) is a seaside resort and community in Conwy County Borough, Wales. It adjoins Colwyn Bay and is named after the Welsh kingdom of Rhos established there in late Roman Britain as a sub-kingdom of Gwynedd.
April is the start of the summer season for this seaside resort. But because of the COVID-19 lockdown, there were no many people at the promenade.
I hope I might be able to visit again after lockdown.

We head over for a trip to North Wales and manage to squeeze in a quick plod around the Welsh seaside town of Rhos-on-Sea. It sits nicely at the western end of Colwyn Bay and is a great place for young families to spend a sunny afternoon.

Criccieth is a town and community on Cardigan Bay, in the Eifionydd area of Gwynedd in Wales. The town of Criccieth lies 5 miles west of Porthmadog, 9 miles east of Pwllheli and 17 miles south of Caernarfon.
Criccieth is a seaside resort, popular with families. Attractions include the ruins of Criccieth Castle, which have extensive views over the town and surrounding countryside. Nearby on Ffordd Castell (Castle Way) is Cadwalader's Ice Cream Parlour, opened in 1927, whilst Stryd Fawr (High Street) has several bistro style restaurants. In the centre lies Y Maes , part of the original medieval town common.
Criccieth is noted for its fairs, held on 23 May and 29 June every year, when large numbers of people visit the fairground and the market which spreads through many of the streets of the town of Criccieth . Famous people associated with Criccieth include the British prime minister, David Lloyd George, who grew up in the nearby village of Llanystumdwy, and poet William George.
Criccieth is located in Eifionydd on the Cardigan Bay shore of the Llŷn Peninsula. The town is south facing and built around the rocky outcrop containing Criccieth Castle, which effectively divides the shoreline in two at this point. The East Shore has a sandy beach with a shallow area for bathing, whilst the Marine Beach, to the west, is quieter and has a number of hotels and guest houses.
Criccieth Castle dominates the town, standing on a rock overlooking Cardigan Bay. Little survives of the original building, but the outer defences are still prominent. To the south of Y Maes stands Caffi Cwrt, an early 18th century detached stone house where the burgesses held court when rain prevented them meeting in their usual location on the bridge.
On Penpaled Road is a cottage, Penpaled, built in 1820 on a plot lying between two enclosed meadows. The meadows, Cae'r Beiliaid (bailiff's field) and Llain y Beiliaid (bailiff's strip) were subsequently to form part of the route of both the road and the railway.
Ffordd Castell is within the original settlement, Yr Hen Dref, though most of the houses are Victorian. Ty Mawr, however, originally a smallholding and later a public house. Y Gorlan on Ffordd Caernarfon formed part of the small estate of Cefniwrch Bach .
Criccieth lies on the A497, the main road running through the southern Llŷn Peninsula from Porthmadog to Pwllheli. The B4411 runs north from Criccieth to join the A487 near Garndolbenmaen, giving access to Caernarfon to the north. The town is served by Criccieth railway station on the Cambrian Coast Line between Pwllheli and Machynlleth.

The Northwood Guesthouse, Rhos-on-Sea, Colwyn Bay, North Wales
I visited North Wales, on April 6th, 2020 and stayed in the guesthouse for one night.
The Northwood is a family run Guesthouse which is situated in the heart of lovely Rhos-on-Sea, some 175 yards from the high-class shops and the Promenade.
There is a large guest lounge with large colour television in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
The owners are very friendly. Room is spacious and clean. Good breakfast is included. I would strongly recommend staying in the guesthouse.
