I met a Syrian refugee in Turkey | EP04
I met Mahmud from Idlib in Antakya. Syria is still being struck by the civil war and life hasn't been easy (for those who stayed as well as those who left the country). For Syrian passport holders it's almost impossible to enter another country visafree. Luckily, Mahmud has now been granted the Turkish citizenship.
We might know a Syrian refugee, but we hardly don't know anything about Syria in the west. We cannot really understand how difficult life can be for them, so I just want to share his words.

Inside the Emirates Boeing 777-300 Amazing Luxury Jet Airliner. Emirates, one of the largest airline companies in world, landed for the first time in Zagreb, Croatia. The inaugural flight Dubai to Zagreb took about six hours, and from June 1st Emirates will start daily, year round direct flights between Zagreb and Dubai.
This flight was an opportunity for journalists to have a look inside this amazing aircraft.
The Boeing 777 is a family of long-range wide-body twin-engine jet airliners developed and manufactured by Boeing Commercial Airplanes. It is the world's largest twin jet and has a typical seating capacity of 314 to 396 passengers, with a range of 5,240 to 8,555 nautical miles (9,704 to 15,844 km). Commonly referred to as the Triple Seven, its distinguishing features include the largest-diameter turbofan engines of any aircraft, six wheels on each main landing gear, fully circular fuselage cross-section, and a blade-shaped tail cone. Developed in consultation with eight major airlines, the 777 was designed to replace older wide-body airliners and bridge the capacity difference between Boeing's 767 and 747. As Boeing's first fly-by-wire airliner, it has computer-mediated controls. It was also the first commercial aircraft to be designed entirely with computer-aided design.

November 2020. Turkey. Hatay. Hatay Province is Turkey's southernmost province. Situated in the Levant, Hatay is bordered by Syria on the south & east, and the Levantine Sea on the west. Hatay was once a part of Syria, and Syria claims Hatay as its own, and shows it within its border in official maps. The word Christian was born in Hatay, and it hosts some of the world's earliest churches, including one in which Saint Peter allegedly preached in the 30s AD. Hatay is a UNESCO-listed City of Gastronomy.

We have made it to Southern Turkey, and I am instantly obsessed with this place!! It contains everything I love about the world -- amazing hospitality, delicious food, mind-blowing history and beautiful ancient wonders.
My friend Anil and I have been exploring the ins and outs of Antakya and the Hatay province, which reminds me a lot of Syria given it's close proximity.
Some of you guys may remember that about 10 months ago, I spent 2 incredible weeks in Syria -- and considering that the border is just a 1 hour drive away, I had to spontaneously go there and see what I could discover. My curiosity led the way.
It ended up being a really special experience to spend time in the border town of Yayladagi, where I was fascinated at the mix of Turkish/Syrian culture.

Does #antakya Have Türkiye's BEST Regional Cuisine?
Visiting Antakya, Türkiye in February 2022, I had two goals: exploring the ancient history of Antioch (present-day Antakya), and eating.
Both were a marvelous success, the latter of which due in no small part to the restaurant Hatay Sultan Sofrası (address: Meydan, İstiklal Cd. 20/A, 31135 Antakya/Hatay, Türkiye). Shout-out to Chef Özlem Warren (at ozlemsturkishtable.com) for the recommendation.
I asked the owner specifically to prepare a variety of Antakyan dishes, resulting in a gluttonous feast, which I still followed-up with dessert, as you will see in a later video.

Want to try authentic traditional Ottoman food? Located in Sultanahmet or Old City in Istanbul, Matbah Restaurant in Ottoman Hotel Imperial specializes in Ottoman Palace Cuisine.
In this Istanbul food vlog, Travelling Foodie Raymond Cua takes you behind-the-scenes with Matbah Restaurant Chef Kadir Yilmaz on the kitchen to see how the Kirde Kebab is made. He also presents the various Ottoman recipe cookbooks (like Fatih Devri Yemekleri for Fatih Food) used at this Michelin Recommended restaurant, which includes the very first cookbook about Ottoman cuisine.

- Vişneli Yaprak Sarma / Stuffed Vine Leaves With Sour Cherries (1844) - Vine leaves stuffed with blend of sour cherries, rice, onions and pine nuts, cooked lightly in olive oil
- Humus / Hummus (1539) - Ground, Chickpeas with lemon juice cinnamon currants and pine nut
- Babaganus / Baba Ganoush (1469) - Baked peeled aubergine with garlic, olive oil and yoghurt
- Ballı Gemici Böreği / Sailor's Roll With Honey (15th c./yy) - Ottoman pastry with seven different Turkish cheeses and pea, wrapped in homemade filo, fried in olive oil, served with honey with currants
- Hassa Böreği / Hassa Pastry (1473) - Rolled pastry with walnut, green olive, yoghurt, tulum cheese and spices
- Nar Ekşili Çoban Salatası / Shepherd's Salad with Pomegranate Dressing - Pomegranate sour salad made with tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and parsley
- Bostan Patlıcanında Reyhanlı Bıldırcın / Quail in Garden Eggplant with Basil Sauce (17th c./yy) - Quail prepared in garden eggplant with pepper paste, honey and olive oil, seasoned with fresh basil
- Beğendili Kuzu İncik / Lamb Shank with Begendi (1463) - Baked lamb shank & pureed eggplant
- Kirde Kebabı / Kirde Kebab (18th c./yy) - Roasted diced beef with vegetables served on lavash bread and side of yoghurt
- Bal Helvası / Honey Halva (15th c./yy) - Roasted flour halva with honey and pistachios
- Helatiye (15th c./yy) - Mastic pudding served with almonds, Antep peanuts, and seasonal fruits in rose water
- Baklava (14th c./yy) - Gaziantep dessert consisting of yufka, walnuts, butter and sugar. Soaked with a sweet syrup immediately after cooking to to penetrate all the layers
