Hi! This is a story on the drug issue on Sao Miguel (and we also visited the lost villages of the island and the farmers market in Ponta Delgada)
We went for a hike on the eastern side of Sao Miguel, Azores, Azores, which is also known as the Lost village of Sao Miguel. If you are planning to visit the Azores, and looking for some recommendations on hikes, there is a good website, where you can search information on different trails on the Azores:
We are also talking about drugs and the Azores, about what happened in the past and how drugs came to the island. NETFLIX is currently filming a comedy show about the Azores and drugs, recorded respectively. It should come out in 2023.
One of my favourite places in Ponta Delgada, which is the capital of the Azores, is the farmer's market. For the best experience, try to visit it during Friday/Saturday - there are many sellers!

This rocky peninsula is popular for water sports, soft sandy beaches and ideal weather. These beaches are consistently windy, and have great surf breaks, with fast forming waves, considered among the best in Europe. Since ancient times Peniche has been an important fishing harbor. Portugal is among the countries in the world with the highest fish consumption per capita . There exists an exclusive sea zone over which the Portuguese have special rights to explore and use marine resources. This is the third-largest exclusive economic zone in the European Union and the eleventh-largest in the world. . In Portugal there are several prestigious schools devoted to the teaching of fishing, oceanography, marine biology and marine science. Peniche has a public institute of higher education, the Instituto Politécnico de Leiria with a marine technology program. The area around Peniche boasts a Mediterranean climate with little temperature variations. It is remarkably mild year-round. With a climate similar to Northern California, but with warmer nights. The Peniche area is one of the mildest winter night-time temperatures in mainland Europe, making it an ideal place to live.

The Islet of Baixo (or islet of the Homiziados ) is a cone of tufts very dismantled by the action of the marine erosion , existing along the Carapacho , in front of Ponta da Restinga , in the southeastern end of the Graciosa island , in the Azores .
This geological formation with geographic co -ordinates of 39º01' North and 27º57'West houses on its cliffs and surface important communities of coastal plants endemic to Macaronesia such as Azorina vidalii (Vidalia), Spergularia azorica , Myosotis maritima (me-forget), Euphorbia Azorica , Festuca petraea (rock-bracel), as well as being an important shelter for wild birds such as gargoyles , woodworms , monkeys , crayfish , crabs , Yellow-legged gulls , which led to the creation of the Special Conservation Area of the Islet of Baixo and Ponta da Restinga (Graciosa) .

Sao Miguel Azores Beaches
There are a variety of beaches on Sao Miguel island in the Azores. Many beaches are lined with rock formations- which are beautiful (even mysterious) but may make entering the water a bit challenging (metal stairs/jetties are a fixture at rocky public beaches). We visited 7 beaches during our 4-day trip to Sao Miguel Azores and my favorite beach was Praia de Fogo in the town of Ribeira Quente on the South coast while my husband's favorite beach was at Ponta da Ferraria natural oceanic thermal pool.
