Bogotá ( is the capital of Colombia and is a very large city with many things to do, but there are even more things to do around Bogotá. There are several towns to spend a weekend of relaxation or adventure.
To the north of Bogotá in a one-hour tour you can visit the Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá ( where you can take a tour of the mine and get to know one of the most notable architectural and artistic achievements of Colombian architecture, considered the number one wonder of Colombia ( You can also enjoy a night of partying at Andrés Carne de Res in Chia ( a large restaurant and nightclub on the outskirts of Bogotá. An hour and a half from Bogotá is the Laguna de Guatavita ( a place that tells the story of El Dorado, a lagoon full of gold.
For extreme activities, you can visit Suesca ( Other places located north of Bogotá are the Puente de Boyacá ( and Villa de Leyva (
To the east of Bogotá, you can enjoy a pleasant afternoon at La Calera ( a place recognized for the large number of restaurants it has and activities such as horse riding. Also, 45 minutes from Bogotá you can visit the highest waterfall in Colombia La Chorrera ( or the hot springs of Choachí ( To the east of Bogotá is also the Chingaza National Park ( perfect for enjoying a day of nature.

- Buenavista, Mall Plaza Buenavista y Plaza del Parque.
- Zoológico de Barranquilla.
- Malecón del Río (Avenida del Río).
Barranquilla es la cuarta ciudad más grande de Colombia, según su economía. Si no has oído hablar de Barranquilla, te cuento que esta es la ciudad que vio nacer la cantante mundialmente conocida: Shakira.
En los últimos años, Barranquilla ha tenido un crecimiento vertiginoso, gracias a los aciertos de sus alcaldes más recientes. Es una ciudad próspera y pujante con una clase media trabajadora que impulsa el crecimiento de su economía.
En la Posición No. 10 encontramos al Centro Comercial Viva. Este centro comercial está ubicado al norte de la ciudad (Cra. 51B # 87-50).
Barranquilla es una ciudad de centros comerciales. Inaugurado en 2016, Viva Barranquilla es el segundo centro comercial más grande de la ciudad con 150.000 metros cuadrados.
En la Posición No. 9 tenemos a Bocas de Ceniza.
Barranquilla es una ciudad bañada por el río Magdalena y el mar caribe. Bocas de ceniza es un alucinante lugar en donde se encuentra el río con el mar. Es decir, la desembocadura del río Magdalena en el mar Caribe.
En la Posición No. 8 encontramos las bellas casas y mansiones de los barrios El Golf y Riomar.
Si estás visitando Barranquilla en carro, no dejes de dar un paseo entre las calles 79 y 90 y entre las carreras 55 y 59, donde encontrarás algunas de las casas más bellas del país.
En la Posición No. 7 tenemos el Muelle de Puerto Colombia. Puerto Colombia es un municipio ubicado a 10 minutos de Barranquilla y, precisamente, por su cercanía, me he permitido incluir esta atracción dentro del Top 10 de Barranquilla.
En la Posición No. 6 encontramos la Aleta del Tiburón.
El junior de Barranquilla es conocido como el equipo Tiburón y gracias a ello se construyó esta impresionante atracción turística, que es un monumento de 30 metros de altura, ubicado en la nueva y famosa Avenida del Río, de la cual hablaremos más adelante.
En la Posición No. 5 tenemos la Ventana al Mundo. Este es un monumento construido a finales de 2018, para inaugurar los Juegos Centroamericanos y del Caribe de los cuales la ciudad de Barranquilla fue anfitriona.
La obra es autoría de la arquitecta barranquillera Diana Escorcia Borelly y la construcción se dio por iniciativa de la compañía Tecnoglass. Es una obra impresionante de 47 metros y, si vienes a Barranquilla, no dudes en hacer esta visita, pues no te arrepentirás.
En la Posición No. 4 encontramos el restaurante Narcobollo.
En Barranquilla sinceramente se come muy pero muy bien y podría nombrarte varias decenas de restaurantes imperdibles en tu visita. Sin embargo, decidí resaltar el restaurante Narcobollo porque allí podrás encontrar una mezcla de lo más importante de la gastronomía costeña: sancochos, arroces, pasteles, hayacas, carimañolas, empanadas, deditos de queso, quibbes, chicharrón y todas las delicias que te puedas imaginar.
La dirección del restaurante es (Cra. 43 # 84-188).
La historia de este peculiar nombre, Narcobollo, nació en Cartagena, cuando en una redada para buscar carteles de droga, un sinnúmero de policías allanó una casa y lo que encontró fue un gran cargamento de bollos limpios, de mazorca, de angelito y de yuca. Para quienes me ven fuera de Colombia, los bollos son unas deliciosas masas de harina envueltas en hojas.
En la Posición No. 3 tenemos el complejo comercial donde están los centros comerciales Buenavista, Mall Plaza y Plaza del Parque.
En Buenavista podrás encontrar almacenes como Éxito, Jumbo, Falabella, así como gimnasios y almacenes en los que encontrarás absolutamente de todo.
En la Posición No. 2 encontramos el Zoológico de Barranquilla.
El zoológico tiene un área de 10.000 m² y cuenta con especies en vía de extinción como el tigre blanco.
El zoológico cuenta con más de 700 animales de unas 130 especies entre nativas y exóticas, entre estas se pueden encontrar un elefante, un tigre, leones, simios, serpientes y muchos animales más.
Y…en la Posición No. 1 tenemos el Malecón del Río.
Barranquilla está rodeada por el mar caribe y el río Magdalena. Durante muchos años la ciudad le dio la espalda al río, pero tras una idea genial, las administraciones de los últimos años decidieron volcar la ciudad hacía el río y construir una obra majestuosa, que es la Avenida del Río.
Esta avenida está junto al río Magdalena y allí encontraremos el Malecón del Río, varios kilómetros de una completa aventura costera.

Colombia, a country which many only know because of it’s violent past, has been on my list since I went to South America for my first long-term trip in 2012. 6 Years later and with 5 weeks to spend it was finally time to properly explore my country number 9 on the continent.
For the first part of the trip I’ll be traveling with my mate David to the historical city of Cartagena, some picturesque Carribean islands and to the city of Medellin where we get to learn about the violent past and the transformation of the country. After a few days in the capital Bogota I’ll be joined by my good friend Stefan to learn salsa and take on some outdoor adventures in Cali before heading up to Santa Marta where we checkout the most beautiful beaches, float down rivers and hike through the mountains.
