Visit Bridgend Travel Tourism Video (English subtitles)

Bridgend County offers distinctive experiences for the group travel market. Its central position along the South Wales coast means it can easily be combined with other areas, from the rural Wye Valley to the bright lights of the capital city of Cardiff.

Tour operators, group travel organisers and the UK travel trade are invited along on a virtual road trip featuring Porthcawl and the surrounding coast and countryside of Bridgend County.

Follow host Steve Reed around the highways and byways of this attractive and often undiscovered part of the UK and explore numerous group venues, hotels and scenic sites.

Take in a variety of group attractions including Ewenny Pottery; Parc Slip Nature Reserve; Rest Bay Watersports Centre; Porthcawl Grand Pavilion; Porthcawl Museum; Finnegans Fish and Chip Restaurant and Pyle Garden Village.

You’ll also see some great hotels in the area showcased here, including the Best Western Heronston Hotel in Bridgend; the Seabank Hotel in Porthcawl and the Great House Hotel and Restaurant in the village of Laleston.

Well known Southern Wales coach and tour operator Cresta Coaches, seen here driving along Porthcawl’s stunning seafront, regularly bring groups to the area to enjoy all that’s on offer!

Porthcawl To Swansea - 23 MILES On The Wales Coast Path South Wales

Walking a stretch of the Wales Coast Path, South Wales on one of the hottest days of the year.
From Porthcawl to Swansea waterfront through 3 counties.

The direct route is about 18 miles but the coastal path is 23 miles long. Due to Port Talbot steel works and docks and Swansea docks, there are sections which have inland diversions.

On the way, you pass long sandy beaches, sand dunes, industrial towns and old canals.

The coastal walk took me 9 and a half hours but that included filming and stopping for lunch. You can do it in 8 hours.

The path was clearly signposted throughout the trip.

Craig Yr Aber wood is a quiet area only really used by locals. The walk is a gentle climb up the valley along a gravel forestry road to Upper Craig Yr Aber. You then cross over towards Margam, you can continue to Mynydd Margam itself.

The return leg of the walk takes you on the opposite side of the Craig Yr Aber valley past the old dam and Craig Yr Aber reservoir.

M*A*S*H - Getting to the MASH 4077 film set location in Malibu Creek Park California in Full HD.

If you enjoy my work please subscribe, you can see more at
BACKGROUND: We flew from England on Holiday to Los Angeles mainly to be guests at the 2013 Ten-Four Police Vehicle event (See ), The wife (an English version of Hot Lips) and I also wanted to visit the location of the MASH or M*A*S*H film set in Malibu Creek State Park.

In the same area are other film locations including where Butch and Sundance leaped into the lake and where the village used in the Planet of the Apes was built. It is around a 4 mile hike down Crags Road in the park, but quite doable if you take plenty of water and dress for the conditions. The scenery is incredible and well worth the effort. I am just sorry the video does not do it justice, but all I had with me was a cheap and old pocket camera. Also please forgive me the puffing and wheezing, but I was nearly seventy then and very much a city boy (London).

NOTE: If you enjoy the videos I produce please take a moment to 'like' and even better 'subscribe' to the channel, it helps us grow. Also remember the best index to my work (divided in subject playlist) can be found at

If you are thinking of doing the hike and want any advice, please feel free to ask. You should also look at before you attempt it.

Spooky Relics From Industrial South Wales - ABANDONED Stormy Down Lime Works

A walk from the old Bedford Ironworks Cefn Cribwr to the abandoned Stormy Down lime works and quarries, more relics from the industrial past of South Wales.

The spooky abandoned Stormy lime works and quarry are also known as Tranch Pyle Lime works or Kenfig Lime works.

Bedford ironworks dates from the 1780s, the abandoned lime works are much later and were in operation until the early 2000s.

The spooky old lime works are scattered with old machinery and the place has a very eerie atmosphere, autumn was a perfect time to visit when the nights were drawing in and Halloween approaches.

I didn’t come across any haunted happenings but there were a lot of strange noises.

It’s not that common in Wales or the UK in general to find places that are derelict and have been left to rot. Usually, they don’t last long. They’re quickly cleared and redeveloped.

Tenby By Train - A Day Trip To Tenby (In Search Of Chips!)

A day trip to Tenby on the train along the South coast of Wales.
In search of some more seaside fish & chip shops around South Wales.

Tenby is on the Pembrokeshire coast and is just over 70 miles from Porthcawl.
Driving takes about an hour and a quarter but the morning rail service from our nearest train station takes nearly three and a half hours.

In Tenby, I go in search of chips and visit D Fecci & Sons Fish & Chips just before the rain arrives.

Porthcawl’s Lost Railway - Can You Walk The Old Porthcawl Branch Line?

Walking the lost Porthcawl Branch Line from Cefn Junction Signal Box to the site of the old Porthcawl train station. How much of the old railway can you still follow?

To help me follow the old line I used this website:

The walk takes you past Kenfig Hill, Pyle, South Cornelly, Nottage and Porthcawl. There are still signs of the old railway in some areas but has been extensively built over in other sections.

The first track was for a horse-drawn tram built by the Duffryn Llynfi and Porthcawl Railway. It was later converted to steam and then became a popular passenger service for day-trippers and holidaymakers visiting Porthcawl.

The line was taken over by the Great Western Railway in 1873

Following the Beeching Act, the branch line closed to passengers in 1963 and to all traffic on 1st  February 1965.

Old Porthcawl - I Follow A Guidebook From 1929

I take a look at The Official Guide To Porthcawl dating from 1929.

So how was Porthcawl described back in the 1920s? I look at the old adverts from businesses, shops and cafes around Porthcawl and see if they are still there.

Also, what do the Porthcawl hotels look like today?
