7 Cities in 7 Days - Day 5 | Adana, Turkey ????????

In this video, we begin day 5 of the 7 Cities in 7 Days challenge and explore Adana, Turkey. We explore the beautiful Sabanci Merkez Camii one of the most beautiful mosques I have seen and the 2nd largest in Turkey. Surrounding this mosque is a beautiful park named Merkez park, the park that is so peaceful you won't want to leave. After this, we had some local kids from Adana lead me to Taşköprü, an ancient bridge built by the Romans! I thought Adana, Turkey was amazing and I am glad I made a stop here!

7 Cities in 7 Days is an exciting challenge and I cant wait to see what day 6 has in store for us. Stay tuned for part 6 where we head to Niğde, Turkey. In the video I say Kayseri but that will be day 7 since it's far.

If you have any questions or comments feel free to leave them in the comments below I will get back to you.

Thank you for watching!

Peace!

NIGHTMARE in ????Adana (Don't do this in Adana) ????????01/81

There are a lot of things to experience in Adana, but most importantly we figured out that camping should not be one of these things! ???????? At least not outside camping areas.

There are 81 reasons to fall in love with Turkey and number 01 is Adana!

I heard that Adana is the city where people shoot for the sun and arriving here in early February with temperatures around 25degrees I can imagine that it really gets you in the mood to shoot the sun.

There are a lot of things to experience in Adana, but most importantly we figured out that camping should not be one of these things! ???????? At least not outside camping areas.

????Location
Adana is located in the south of Turkey and it’s not only Adana Kebab what the province is famous for.

➡️ Yilan Kale
For me, the most fascinating place in Adana is Yilankale, which means snake castle. It is believed to be the home of a creature which is half woman and half snake.

The castle is over 700 years old and one of the most perfectly preserved Armenian castles in the region. It is open for visitors and I think definitely worth it to find out more about this snake lady.

????????Culture
Did you know that Adana is one of the first places of the world where humans settled down and it was also one of the most important regions of the classical world?

It was a very diverse place where many religions and cultures lived together for thousands of years.

Now, it’s one of the biggest and most developed cities in Turkey where you can find lots of art, history and all kind of festivals.

????Getting there
Getting there from Istanbul takes around 12hours by bus and a ticket is like 120 Liras. Oh and before I forget-

????Food
You can not go to Adana without eating – right – Adana Kebab.

The city is basically the home town of Adana Kebab and originally it was known as Kıyma kebabı which literally means “minced kebab”.

And not everyone can just sell you original Adana Kebab because there are strict rules regarding the cooking, the flavors, and the meat.

It even has a patent but there is a public list of restaurants that follow the original recipe.

Afiyet olsun!

????TOP THINGS TO DO in ADANA
Did you know that Adana has

➡️A clock tower that symbolized modernization – Büyük Saat Kulesi
➡️A 1,900 year old ancient stone bridge in the middle of the city – Tasköprü
➡️If you like nature, there is a canyon that is free to visit – Kapikaya Kanyonu
➡️A more than 100 year old railway that was built by germans – Varda Köprü
➡️One of the best wine tours and tastings in the country
➡️Sabancı Merkez Cami, the 2nd largest mosque in Turkey
➡️And of course mysterious castles, like the snake castle
➡️A beautiful dam called Seyhan Baraj
➡️Mountain towns like Pozanti
➡️Many coastal towns like Yumurtalik and Karatas with ancient sites
➡️When it comes to food, Adana does not only have Adana Kebab, but also Tantuni, Humus, Lahmacun, balkabagi tatlisi, Sirdan and Salgam

That’s it from Adana, see you next time in Adiyaman!

???? Enjoy your time in Adana and stay happy & healthy!

Travelling Turkey, Belemedik, pozanti Adana city

Belemedik is a small village in Adana Province, Turkey. But it was one of the important settlements on Toros Mountains during the early years of the 20th century and especially the World War I years.
In the early years of the 20th century, the population of the village was of Turkmen origin, also called Tahtacı (wood workers), referring to their employment in forestry. In 1907 Belemedik became the center of railroad construction activities of the Philipp Holzmann company within the scope of Berlin-Baghdad Railway, one of the most prestigious transportation projects of the early 20th century. The population of the village increased by the influx of Turks as well as the German construction workers. During the seven years of construction 41 Germans died of natural causes and they were buried in Belemedik. After the World War I Belemedik, like other settlements around Çukurova, was occupied by the French army. The headquarters of the French mountain troops was in Pozantı and nearby Belemedik was used as a site for military hospital. The commander's wife Mme. Mesnil was working as a nurse in the hospital. However, Turkish nationalists (also called Kemalist) captured Belemedik on 10 April 1920. On 28 May the rest of the French troops also surrendered during the battle of Karboğazı. French soldiers including Major and Mme. Mesnil were held captive up to 25 September 1921. During the rest of the war, the hospital in Belemedik was used by the Turkish nationalists. After the war, Belemedik continued to be a stop on the railroad. But because of the lack of agricultural land and landslips in 1969, the population decreased sharply.
According to one source the name of the village is the corrupt form of the Turkish word Bilemedik meaning We couldn't guess. During the railway construction, each tunnel was bored by two teams working at the opposite sides of the tunnel. The teams were required to meet at the midpoint. When for any reason, one team failed to accomplish the task, the excuse was the word bilemedik and in German pronunciation it became belemedik.

Misis Bridge, a historical bridge in Adana Province, Turkey

Misis Bridge is a historical bridge in Adana Province, Turkey. (Misis is the popular name of Yakapınar town, which is now included in Greater Adana).

In the Middle Ages, Mopsuestia was a big city and the bridge was built on one of the most active trade roads to east. It was commissioned by the Roman emperor Flavius Julius Constantius (better known as Constantius II) in the fourth century. It was restored by the Byzantine emperor Justinian I in the sixth century. The bridge suffered damage in the 1998 Adana-Ceyhan earthquake.

ENGLISH

Mersin (pronounced [ˈmæɾsin]) is a large city and a port on the Mediterranean coast of southern Turkey.

As of the last 2021 estimation, the Metropolitan Province population was 1,891,145 inhabitants whom 1,064,850 lived in the built-up (or metro) area made of the 4 urban districts, making it the 11th millionaire built-up area of Turkey. As urbanization continue towards east, a larger metropolitan region with Tarsus and Adana is in making with more than 3.3 million inhabitants, the Adana-Mersin Metropolitan Area, and lies on the western part of Çukurova, a geographical, economic and cultural region.

Mersin is an important hub of Turkey's economy, and Turkey's largest seaport is located in the city. Mersin's nickname in Turkey is Pearl of the Mediterranean (Turkish: Akdeniz'in İncisi), and the city hosted the 2013 Mediterranean Games. Mersin is the provincial capital of the eponymous Mersin Province of Turkey.

Prehistory[edit]
This coast has been inhabited since the 9th millennium BC. Excavations by John Garstang of the hill of Yumuktepe have revealed 23 levels of occupation, the earliest dating from ca. 6300 BC. Fortifications were put up around 4500 BC, but the site appears to have been abandoned between 350 BC and 300 BC.

Classical era[edit]
In subsequent centuries, the city became a part of many states and civilizations including the Hittites, Assyrians, Urartians, Persians, Greeks, Armenians, Seleucids and Lagids. During the Ancient Greek period, the city bore the name Zephyrion (Greek: Ζεφύριον[3]) and was mentioned by numerous ancient authors. Apart from its natural harbor and strategic position along the trade routes of southern Anatolia, the city profited from trade in molybdenum (white lead) from the neighbouring mines of Coreyra. Ancient sources attributed the best molybdenum to the city, which also minted its own coins.

Hellenistic sculpture in Mersin Archaeological Museum
The area later became a part of the Roman province of Cilicia, which had its capital at Tarsus, while nearby Mersin was the major port.[citation needed] The city, whose name was Latinized to Zephyrium, was renamed as Hadrianopolis in honor of the Roman emperor Hadrian.

After the death of the emperor Theodosius I in 395 and the subsequent permanent division of the Roman Empire, Mersin fell into what became the Byzantine Empire.

The city was an episcopal see under the Patriarchate of Antioch. Le Quien names four bishops of Zephyrium:[4] Aerius, present at the First Council of Constantinople in 381; Zenobius, a Nestorian, the writer of a letter protesting the removal of Bishop Meletius of Mopsuestia by Patriarch John of Antioch (429–441); Hypatius, present at the Council of Chalcedon in 451; and Peter, at the Council in Trullo in 692. The bishopric is included in the Catholic Church's list of titular sees, but since the Second Vatican Council no new titular bishop of this Eastern see has been appointed.[5]

Medieval Period[edit]
The area of Cilicia was conquered by the Arabs in the early 7th century, by which time it appears it was a deserted site. After them came the Egyptian Tulunids, the Byzantines between 965 and the 12th century, the Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia, Mamluks, Anatolian beyliks, and finally the city was conquered by the Ottomans from the Ramadanid Principality in 1473 and formally annexed by Selim I in 1517.

During the American Civil War, the region became a major supplier of cotton to make up for the high demand due to shortage. Railroads were extended to Mersin in 1866 from where cotton was exported by sea, and the city developed into a major trade center.

In 1909, Mersin's port hosted 645 steamships and 797,433 tons of goods. Before World War I, Mersin exported mainly sesame seeds, cottonseed, cakes and cereals, cotton, and livestock. Cotton was exported to Europe, grain to Turkey, and livestock to Egypt. Coal was the most prevalent import into Mersin at this time. Messageries Maritimes was the largest shipping line to use the port at Mersin.[6]

In 1918, Mersin was occupied by French and British troops in accordance with the Treaty of Sèvres. It was recovered by the Turkish army in 1921 through Franco-Turkish War. In 1924, Mersin was made a province, and in 1933 Mersin and İçel provinces were merged to form the (greater Mersin) İçel Province. The capital of the province was Mersin. In 2002 the name of the province was changed to Mersin Province.[7]

As of 1920, Mersin had five piers at its port, with one privately owned by a railroad company serving Mersin, Tarsus, and Adana.[8]
