I visited Bilbao (Basque Country) for a total of 3 days and fell in love with the place! Bilbao has so much more to offer than just the Guggenheim museum so come with me as I show you things to see and do in Bilbao, Spain!
If you watched my last vlog, you'll know that I am on my first ever solo trip (ticked off the bucket list) and I feel like I came to the right place! Bilbao is such a beautiful city and I felt perfectly safe the whole time I was there, so I can highly recommend visiting if you're thinking of traveling here (maybe even solo)..

Puente colgante Portugalete - Bizkaia - Euskadi
| ¿Te atreves a recorrer el Puente Colgante por una pasarela de 170 metros a 50 metros de altura? Nosotros lo hemos hecho y es una experiencia única.
La arquitectura de hierro creada gracias a la revolución industrial ha trascendido hasta nuestros días en parte por la famosa Torre Eiffel. Un estilo práctico en aquellos tiempos donde los incendios ponían en peligro la seguridad de las fábricas.
En Bizkaia, cuna de la industria española, se puede visitar una de las joyas de aquella época donde el mineral de hierro tenía el protagonismo que hoy posee el petróleo. “El Puente Colgante Vizcaya” es hoy en día Patrimonio Mundial por la Unesco. Un símbolo de finales de siglo XIX que hoy sigue en uso uniendo las orillas de dos ciudades hermanas como son Portugalete y Getxo.

The Vizcaya Bridge (Bizkaiko Zubia in Basque, #PuentedeVizcaya in Spanish) is a transporter bridge that links the towns of #Portugalete and #LasArenas (part of Getxo) in the Biscay province of Spain, crossing the mouth of the #NervionRiver. On July 13, 2006, the Vizcaya Bridge was declared a World Heritage Site by #UNESCO. In Spain, it is the only monument in the Industrial Heritage category. #UNESCO considers the bridge to be a perfect combination of beauty and functionality. It was the first to use a combination of iron technology and new steel cables which began a new form of constructing bridges which was later imitated throughout the world. The structure is made of four 61 metre towers which are the pillars and stand on the river banks. The towers are braced by iron cables to the crossbeam and are parallel to the river and by cables following the line of the bridge into the hill behind (on the Portugalete side) and the ground (on the Las Arenas side). The upper crossbeam which lies horizontally, rests between two towers by 70 suspension cables. They also help support a great amount of weight and are supported in the corbels which helps balance the weight. The gondola transports vehicles and they hang from a 36-wheeled caty and is 25m. long. It moves along the rails through the horizontal crossbeam.

Two not difficult but strange days. Lots of urban stretches, interesting but ugly punctured by very beautiful bits. Portugalete to Bilbao was a day of about 20km. Then to Lezama only about 12 but ending expensively.

Caminando por el Muelle Churruca. Portugalete Walk. Lunes, 05 Junio 2023. El Puente Colgante de Portugalete. Hoy, conocido como Puente Bizkaia. Su origen está en 1885. Une Getxo con Portugalete. Don Alberto Palacio Elissague, autor también del Palacio de Cristal de El Retiro y discípulo de Gustave Eiffel, fue el encargado de su diseño. El ingeniero francés Don Ferdinand Joseph Arnodin lo construyó. Este es el primer transbordador metálico del mundo. Se inauguró el 28 de Julio de 1893.
