Point Pedro, Jaffna: Officially the Most Northern Man in Sri Lanka ????????
POINT PEDRO, JAFFNA: After starting out the day amongst the hustle and bustle of Jaffna market, I head north to escape to a quieter area and search for Sakkotei Cape in Point Pedro - the most northern point of this tropical paradise island!
It was great to be the most northern man in Sri Lanka (on the mainland at least) and to complete the next step of my circumnavigation of the island on this road trip!
I last came to Sri Lanka in 2017 but didn't make it to any of these northern reaches of the country such as Jaffna and Mannar etc and so my aim here is to explore these lesser travelled locations. Come with me in this Sri Lanka travel vlog and immerse yourself in the rich cultural heritage of Jaffna.

About Point Pedro: This is a town located in the Jaffna District of Sri Lanka, at the northernmost point of the island - the most northerly spot here being Sakkotei Cape. The place name 'Point Pedro' is a corruption of the Portuguese Ponta das Pedras meaning the rocky cape. The name of the town in Tamil is Paruthithurai, which literally means Cotton Harbour. The harbor here exported cotton to South India for centuries.

Point Pedro (Tamil: பருத்தித்துறை, romanized: Paruttittuṟai; Sinhala: පේදුරු තුඩුව, romanized: Pēduru Tuḍuva) is a town, located in Jaffna District, Sri Lanka, at the northernmost point of the island.
Cotton is produced around Point Pedro in the fertile calcic red latosol soils. The eastern coast of Point Pedro forms a 3 mile wide, 20 mile long beach with sand dunes up to 100 feet high, extending to Thalayady. The porous soil has a water table deep underground with an estimated one billion litres of fresh water. The Boxing Day tsunami of 2004 raised the salt content of the ground water. The tsunami destroyed parts of the town and submerged some parts with seawater up to 4 feet deep.

Prawn hunting while traveling to Point Pedro, Jaffna - Sri Lankan Vlog - TravelKuruvi
Day 5 - On our way to Jaffna's Point Pedro at 10:00 in night, we saw some fishing activity under the bridge. We stop the bus and start to record all of those events. only then do we understand that they are catching prawns. Additionally, that location is known as Nadhi kadal. This is a crucial location in the 2009 Sri Lankan War since it was here that a large number of innocent civilians were slaughtered. After having heard everything, we move on to Point Pedro Jaffna. The next morning, we started to explore the town of Point Pedro.
