Places to see in ( Basildon - UK )

Basildon is the largest town in the borough of Basildon in the county of Essex, England. Basildon lies 32 miles east of Central London, 11 miles south of the city of Chelmsford and 10 miles west of Southend-on-Sea.

Nearby smaller towns include Billericay to the north, Wickford northeast and South Benfleet to the east. It was created as a new town after World War II in 1948 to accommodate the London population overspill, from the conglomeration of four small villages, namely Pitsea, Laindon, Basildon and Vange. The new town which took the name Basildon was the most central of the four.

The local government district of Basildon, which was formed in 1974 and received borough status in 2010, encapsulates a larger area than the town itself; the two neighbouring towns of Billericay and Wickford, as well as rural villages and smaller settlements set among the surrounding countryside, fall within its borders. Basildon Town is one of the most densely populated areas in the county.

Some of Basildon's residents work in Central London due to the town being well connected in the county to the City of London and the Docklands financial and corporate headquarters districts, with a 36–58 minute journey from the three Basildon stations to London Fenchurch Street. Basildon also has access to the City via road, on the A127, and A13.

The town has three stations on the London, Tilbury & Southend Line: Pitsea, Basildon and Laindon. All are served by c2c trains running between Fenchurch Street and Southend/Shoeburyness; trains serving Basildon and Laindon stations run via Upminster. Basildon has a heavily developed industrial base. During the construction of the New Town, government grants were given to companies to set up their businesses in Basildon.

Basildon Walk: Town Centre【4K】

Located in the county of Essex, and around 25 miles east of central London, is the town of Basildon.

The name 'Basildon' literally translates from Old English to 'Boerthal's Hill' (Boerthal being a Saxon personal name). It appears in the Domesday Book of 1086 as 'Berlesduna'.

For centuries, Basildon was a tiny village. This all changed dramatically from 1948 when the UK government granted provisional approval for the creation of a 50,000 population new town. Building would take place on the site of the villages of Pitsea, Laindon, Vange and Basildon - the latter of which would be chosen as the name of the planned development due to being the most centrally located of the four.

Following the Second World War, the New Towns Act of 1946 was put forward in a bid to rehouse those whose homes had been destroyed in the Blitz in London and other major cities. And so, on the 4th of January 1949 Basildon was officially designated a New Town, following in the footsteps of Stevenage, Crawley and Harlow among others.

Despite its rapid growth, Basildon did not receive a rail connection until 1974. Before then, the nearest station was Laindon which is situated a mile and a half to the west. Basildon station is situated on the London, Tilbury and Southend line, providing a direct link to the City of London (Fenchurch Street station) in just over half an hour. In the other direction, trains to Southend-on-Sea take around 20 minutes.

Synth-pop bands Depeche Mode and Yazoo (or Yaz in North America) were formed in Basildon in 1980 and 1981 respectively. The latter came about when Vince Clarke left Depeche Mode to form a duo with Alison Moyet. Clarke went on to form a short-lived band called The Assembly before pairing up with Andy Bell to form Erasure.

Places to see in ( Wickford - UK )

Places to see in ( Wickford - UK )

Wickford is a town in the south of the English county of Essex, with a population of more than 33,000. Located approximately 30 miles (50 km) east of London, it falls within the Borough of Basildon along with the original town of Basildon, Billericay, Laindon and Pitsea. However, parts of Wickford fall under neighbouring districts such as Chelmsford and Rochford.

Wickford has become a commuter town, serving the City of London through its direct connection to Liverpool Street station through the Southend Victoria line, on which a train to London takes approximately 40 minutes. The town can also be easily reached via the road network by the A127 between London and Southend-on-Sea or by the A130 from Chelmsford.

Wickford is a fairly small town with a main high street including a range of shops. A swimming pool, a library, an open-air market and a community centre are also within the vicinity of the town centre.
Including this, Wickford also incorporates a small estate called Shotgate, home to many residents. Shotgate features a row of village shops and a children's play area and park.

Wickford has a history going back over two thousand years. There is evidence that the area itself was inhabited in prehistoric times probably by a tribe of Britons called Trinovantes. There was a Roman military marching camp on the Beauchamps Farm site, which was succeeded by a Roman villa. This is now the site of Beauchamps High School. This area on higher ground was the historic core of Wickford, the site of the manor house and the parish church of St Catherine's. Over time the commercial centre of Wickford has migrated westwards, towards the modern High Street on the other side of the River Crouch.

For the most part, Wickford is flat and 10 metres (33 ft) above sea level. The highest point, on the outskirts of the town, is 74 metres (243 ft) above sea level. The River Crouch flows through the town, from the west to the east. The River Wick flows into the River Crouch from the south.

The Wick Country Park comprises 50 acres (20 ha) of former agricultural land, with over 2 km of easy access trails around the site. The trails leads visitors past old hedgerows, the 5-acre (2.0 ha) lake, ponds, World War II pillboxes and recent woodland plantings, with bridges and boardwalks that allow the trails to continue over the North Benfleet brook.

Places to see in ( Grays Thurrock - UK )

Grays is the largest town in the borough and unitary authority of Thurrock in Essex and one of the Thurrock's traditional parishes. Grays Thurrock is approximately 20 miles (32 km) to the east of London on the north bank of the River Thames, and 2 miles (3.2 km) east of the M25 motorway. Its economy is linked to Port of London industries, its own offices, retail and Lakeside, West Thurrock. Its diversely used riverside faces Broadness Lighthouse, Broadness Point, Swanscombe, Kent.

Samuel Pepys recorded in his diary that he visited Grays on 24 September 1665 and apparently bought fish from the local fishermen. Parts of Grays and Chafford Hundred are set within three Victorian chalk pits; the largest two being the Lion Gorge, and the Warren Gorge. Another area of the Chafford Hundred residential development is built on a Victorian landfill site.

Thurrock is a Saxon name meaning the bottom of a ship. The element Grays comes from Henry de Grai, a descendant of the Norman knight Anchetil de Greye, who was granted the manor of Grays Thurrock in 1195 by Richard I. Local sites of interest include the Thameside Theatre, the Thurrock History Museum, Grays Beach and the now-disused State Cinema.

From the top of the Derby Road Bridge in Grays one can look down to Thurrock Yacht Club, Grays Beach children's playground and the River Thames. As well as Thurrock Yacht Club, Grays Beach is the site of the local landmark The Gull, a lightship built in 1860, which has lain on the foreshore for decades and is now in a serious state of dilapidation. The Thurrock Campus of South Essex College relocated to a new complex in the town centre in September 2014.

The town is approximately 20 miles (32 km) to the east of London on the north bank of the River Thames, and 2 miles (3.2 km) east of the M25 motorway its economy is linked to Port of London industries, its own offices, retail and Lakeside, West Thurrock. Its variously used riverside (from homes through wild bird-habitat marshland to importation, storage and distribution) faces Broadness Lighthouse, Broadness Point, Swanscombe, Kent.

Grays has good road links, being close to the A13 road and the M25 motorway. The A126 London Road is the main road which links Grays town centre with Lakeside Shopping Centre, Purfleet and Tilbury. Grays railway station runs through the centre of the built-up core and is served by c2c and runs between Fenchurch Street station in the City of London to the west and Shoeburyness to the east. Also Grays bus station by the station above is a hub for most bus services in Thurrock. The bus services are operated by Ensignbus, First Essex, Arriva Southend, Imperial Buses and Regal Busways.

This walk starts at Thorpe Bay on the Thames Estuary in Essex and heads out to Shoeburyness at where the River Thames meets the North Sea. Much of the land at the end of the estuary around Shoeburyness has been owned by the military since the 1840's and is still owned by the Ministry of Defence as an active firing range. The Broomway leads from the Wakering Stairs across Maplin Sands and is regarded as the deadliest path in Britain claiming over a hundred victims over time with many more being unrecorded.

TOWER BRIGE
Tower Bridge is a combined bascule and suspension bridge in London, built between 1886 and 1894. The bridge crosses the River Thames close to the Tower of London and has become a world-famous symbol of London. As a result, it is sometimes confused with London Bridge, about 0.5 miles (0.80 km) upstream. Tower Bridge is one of five London bridges owned and maintained by the Bridge House Estates, a charitable trust overseen by the City of London Corporation. It is the only one of the trust's bridges not to connect the City of London directly to the Southwark bank, as its northern landfall is in Tower Hamlets.

The bridge consists of two bridge towers tied together at the upper level by two horizontal walkways, designed to withstand the horizontal tension forces imposed by the suspended sections of the bridge on the landward sides of the towers. The vertical components of the forces in the suspended sections and the vertical reactions of the two walkways are carried by the two robust towers. The bascule pivots and operating machinery are housed in the base of each tower.

The bridge deck is freely accessible to both vehicles and pedestrians, whereas the bridge's twin towers, high-level walkways and Victorian engine rooms form part of the Tower Bridge Exhibition, for which an admission charge is made. The nearest London Underground tube stations are Tower Hill on the Circle and District lines, London Bridge on the Jubilee and Northern lines and Bermondsey on the Jubilee line, and the nearest Docklands Light Railway station is Tower Gateway.[1] The nearest National Rail stations are at Fenchurch Street and London Bridge.

BASILDON ESSEX
Basildon (/ˈbæzɪldən/ BAZ-il-dən) is the largest town in the borough of Basildon, within the county of Essex, England. It has a population of 107,123.[1]

It lies 26 miles (42 km) east of Central London,[2] 11 miles (18 km) south of the city of Chelmsford and 10 miles (16 km) west of Southend-on-Sea. Nearby smaller towns include Billericay to the north-west, Wickford to the north-east and South Benfleet to the south-east. It was created as a new town after World War II in 1948, to accommodate the London population overspill[3] from the conglomeration of four small villages, namely Pitsea, Laindon, Basildon (the most central of the four) and Vange.

Some of Basildon's residents work in Central London, due to the town being well connected in the county to the City of London and the Docklands financial and corporate headquarters districts, with a 36–58 minute journey from the three Basildon stations to London Fenchurch Street.[4] Basildon also has access to the City via road, on the A127 and A13.

C2C (Fenchurch Street to Shoeburyness) - DRIVERS EYE VIEW [Part 1/2]

A real treat for my viewers, a drivers eye view over the entire London, Tilbury & Southend Railway! Covering the entire system meant I needed to split them into two parts, so part 1 is where we travel from London Fenchurch Street to Shoeburyness over the Barking-Pitsea direct line via Basildon.

We parallel some of the District line to Upminster from Bow and then run out into rural Essex, calling at all intermediate stations en route, explore Southend-on-Sea before continuing onwards to the terminus at Shoeburyness.

Filmed in real time back in September 2021 we have sunny skies throughout. My thanks go out to the c2c team for allowing me to film on their network, without their help this film wouldn't have been made! Of course narration and trackside shots have been included throughout this programme, so sit back relax enjoy the ride from London to Shoeburyness!

*Part 2 is currently being filmed and will be released later this year*
