Pabianice is a town in central Poland with about 65000 inhabitants. Situated in the Łódź Voivodeship, it is the capital of Pabianice County. ▸Piotrków Trybunalski - miasto położone w środkowej części Wyżyny Łódzkiej, na pograniczu historycznych dzielnic państwa polskiego, liczy obecnie ok. 71 tysięcy mieszkańców i zajmuje obszar o powierzchni 68 km2. Legenda przypisuje założenie miasta, żyjącemu w I połowie XII wieku, potężnemu możnowładcy polskiemu Piotrowi Duninowi zwanemu Włostowicem, który pokutując za czyn nierycerski, miał w Polsce wybudować 77 kościołów, w tym najstarszy kościół w Piotrkowie pod wezwaniem św. Jakuba. To od jego imienia ma pochodzić patronimiczna nazwa miasta, której drugi człon: Trybunalski , został nadany w czasach nowożytnych dla upamiętnienia Trybunału Koronnego - najwyższego sądu dawnej Rzeczypospolitej - mającego tutaj swoją siedzibę przez 214 lat, poczynając od 1578 roku aż do katastrofy państwa polskiego u schyłku XVIII wieku.
W ciągu XIII wieku Piotrków rozwinął się w znaczną i ludną osadę, gdzie władcy księstw łęczyckiego i sieradzkiego zwoływali zjazdy rycerskie i odbywali sądy, w czasach, gdy władca był najwyższym sędzią swoich poddanych. Prawdopodobnie w trakcie jednego z takich zjazdów, który w roku 1291 zwołał tutaj książę sieradzki Władysław Łokietek, Piotrków otrzymał przywilej lokacyjny i prawo miejskie, bowiem w początkach XIV wieku, co wynika z dokumentów książęcych, był już miastem i cieszył się opieką władcy. Niestety pierwsze dokumenty miejskie Piotrkowa uległy zniszczeniu około 1400 roku, kiedy wielki pożar zniszczył zabudowę i naruszył mury miejskie stawiane w II połowie XIV wieku za panowania Kazimierza Wielkiego. Tu rozpoczynali swoje rządy, obierani władcami na sejmach elekcyjnych, potomkowie Władysława Jagiełły, który w 1404 roku potwierdził wszystkie dawne przywileje Piotrkowa i nadał jego mieszkańcom prawo magdeburskie, zapewniające samorząd i królewską opiekę.
Na zjeździe generalnym zwołanym do Piotrkowa przez króla Jana Olbrachta w styczniu 1493 roku nastąpiło ostateczne ustalenie kształtu parlamentu polskiego z podziałem na Izby Senacką i Poselską. Te wydarzenia powodowały, że Piotrków był w tym okresie drugą - polityczną stolicą królestwa. Nic dziwnego, że wieki XV i XVI to najlepszy okres w dziejach miasta, które pomimo trapiących je klęsk żywiołowych, pod koniec XVI wieku liczyło ponad 3000 mieszkańców w obrębie murów miejskich i na rozległych przedmieściach. Upadek miasta przyniosły dopiero klęski żywiołowe i skutki wojen ze Szwecją toczonych w XVII i początkach XVIII wieku. Wielki pożar we wrześniu 1786 roku zniszczył barokową zabudowę Starego Miasta, które odbudowane w początkach XIX wieku, zachowało tylko średniowieczny układ urbanistyczny i zabytkowe kościoły. Miejskie mury obronne, które utraciły swoje znaczenie i były w złym stanie technicznym, zostały rozebrane przed 1827 rokiem, a ratusz - dawna siedziba Trybunału Koronnego po 1867 roku z polecenia władz gubernialnych.
W okresie rozbiorów, Piotrków uzyskał możliwości rozwoju i odzyskał w pewnym stopniu dawne znaczenie po przeprowadzeniu przez miasto w 1846 roku pierwszej w Polsce linii kolei tzw. warszawsko-wiedeńskiej i posadowieniu tutaj siedziby władz utworzonej w 1867 roku guberni piotrkowskiej, która funkcjonowała do wybuchu I wojny światowej. W tym okresie powiększony został kilkakrotnie obszar zabudowy miejskiej Piotrkowa, powstało nowe centrum pomiędzy Starym Miastem i linią kolejową, rozwinęły się zakłady przemysłowe, a ludność miasta wzrosła do 40 tys.
W okresie I wojny światowej, Piotrków znajdując się pod okupacją austro-węgierską, ponownie zyskał znaczenie ośrodka politycznego, będąc miejscem szczególnie ożywionej działalności patriotycznej i rekrutacji Legionów Polskich.
Po odzyskaniu niepodległości w 1918 roku, Piotrków jako miasto powiatowe w województwie łódzkim, stracił swoje dotychczasowe znaczenie centrum administracyjnego i ośrodka politycznego.

On Sunday 12 September 2010, I travelled from Lublin to Poznań in Poland to attend the Taropak trade fair. Here I drive through Piotrków Trybunalski towards Łódź. This is the story of the journey across the centre of Poland.

I have produced around 1,600 original films, most in English but also in Polish, French, Italian, Spanish and the occasional hint of German and Hebrew. My big interest in life is travel and history but I have also placed films on other subjects

There are a number of films here on the packaging industry. This is because I am the publisher of Central and Eastern European Packaging -- - the international platform for the packaging industry in this region focusing on the latest innovations, trends, design, branding, legislation and environmental issues with in-depth profiles of major industry achievers.
Most people may think packaging pretty boring but it possibly effects your life more than you really imagine!
Central and Eastern European Packaging examines the packaging industry throughout this region, but in particular in the largest regional economies which are Russia, Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, Ukraine and Austria. That is not to say that the other countries are forgotten, they are not, but obviously there is less going on. However the fact that there are so many travel related films here is not from holidays but from business trips attending trade fairs around the region. Every packaging trade fair is a new excuse to make another film!
