History:
Peshawar is the capital of the Pakistani province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and its largest city. It is the sixth-largest in Pakistan.Peshawar is also the largest Pashtun-majority city in Pakistan and is bilingual in Pashto and Hindko. Situated in the broad Valley of Peshawar near the eastern end of the historic Khyber Pass, close to the border with Afghanistan, Peshawar's recorded history dates back to at least 539 BCE, making it the oldest city in Pakistan and one of the oldest cities in South Asia. As the center of the ancient Gandhara region, Peshawar served as the capital of the Kushan Empire and was home to the Kanishka stupa. Peshawar was then sacked by the White Huns, before the arrival of Muslim empires. The city was an important trading centre during the Mughal era before serving as the winter capital of the Afghan Durrani Empire from 1757 until the city was captured by the Sikh Empire in 1818, who were then followed by the British in 1849.

Most of my trip to Pakistan was spent in the mountains, but I knew my trip would not be complete without seeing a few Pakistani cities and meeting the people and culture. Peshawar was the perfect place to experience both. Situated in the northwest of the country, on the edge of the Khyber pass to Afghanistan, lies the historic Silk Road city. Not many tourists make it here lending itself to a very authentic look into the lives of the Pakistani people. The hospitality was overwhelming as we shared many meals with complete strangers and couldn’t walk down the street without shaking a few hands. We had a few days to wander these ancient streets, and here’s how it went….

From the moment we arrived in Peshawar, my eyes have been glued out the window and my heart has been beating fast. I am in love with this place.
Peshawar is an ancient city in North West Pakistan -- almost on the border with Afghanistan -- that has a recorded history dating back to 539 BCE.
The culture of Peshawar is unique to anywhere else in Pakistan (and the world for that matter). The way that people dress is different. The cuisine is different. The buildings are different.
They get such little tourism that the people are extremely curious and welcoming.
Peshawar is my kind of place, and I can't wait to show you more of this city over the coming days :)

WHY VISIT PESHAWAR PAKISTAN?????????❤️ Minutes from Afghanistan Mesmerizing Place |197 Countries, 3 Kids
Hi, guys! In this video, we are taking you to Peshawar, one of the largest cities in Pakistan.
Located only 30 mins from the border with Afghanistan, Peshawar gave us a slightly different perspective of this Islamic country than its capital.
After 2.5 hours of driving from Islamabad, we were ready to check into our stay in Peshawar and freshen up before we started exploring the city.
With the help of our fantastic driver, Adnan, we found a nice, spacious place to stay overnight, which was also close to his parent's house. We were also introduced to his good friend Noor, who joined us for the day with a second vehicle for more space and comfort.
We were not quite hungry yet, so we ordered the food we wanted to have later and hit the road.
The first stop was the area around the Khyber Pass Gate, where we met the famous Pakistani singer Zeek Afridi and even filmed a little interview together.
In the meantime, our food was ready, so we headed toward the local restaurant, where we tried several local dishes and very delicious barbecue meat.
Our next stop was the Peshawar University of Agriculture, where we enjoyed a stroll through its gorgeous gardens and checked out the classrooms. Founded in 1950, the University of Peshawar is one of the oldest universities in Pakistan and is widely regarded as the best in the country.
In the evening, we decided to visit the local open markets. Angelique needed a new suitcase so that was first on our list, and with Adnan’s help, we found a very affordable one.
We would like to give our massive thanks to Adnan, who transformed our trip to Pakistan. We made a friend for life there, and we’ll never forget his kindness.
