Girona Province - More than just the Costa Brava

The province of Girona is situated in the autonomous community of Catalonia, and is divided into the three areas: The Costa Brava (coastal region), the inland region, and the mountainous area of the Girona Pyrenees.

The diversity of the Girona Province is immense; the breathtaking region of the Pyrenees with its snowy mountains, ancient villages and beautiful emerald valleys and the Mediterranean Costa Brava, with its beaches and coves of crystal clear waters, with their pine clad hillside backdrop. Finally the inland countryside, rich with crops, sunflowers and woodland areas; with charming villages, and of course the historical capital of the province, Girona itself.

The Costa Brava is one of the most visited destinations in Spain, but it is just one of the many jewels that you can explore in the province of Girona. Come and discover all of Girona's treasures!

Located on the coast of the Costa Brava, Calella de Palafrugell is one of the most beautiful villages in the region. With its white houses and boats moored near the beaches, this former fishing village exudes a bohemian atmosphere that appeals to many curious people. In addition, it has kept its charm of the old despite the mass arrival of tourists in recent years. In short, it is a perfect holiday destination for those who wish to mix idleness and cultural discoveries.

This former fishing village formed by several coves has lost none of its charm. With its narrow streets, houses with sloping tiled roofs and traditional two-storey fishermen's habitats, Calella de Palafrugell is one of the few towns on the Costa Brava that have managed to preserve the charm of the region's villages before mass tourism arrived. Dotted with small coves, this former fishing village is located on a rocky coast north of the Castell – Cap Roig natural site, ideal for walks or bicycle excursions, and south of the coastal and tourist village of Llafranc.

If Calella de Palafrugell is so famous on the Catalan coast, it is because its beaches are among the most beautiful beaches on the Costa Brava. Most of them enjoy a most sumptuous natural setting, surrounded by steep cliff sand flourishing vegetation. This is the case of El Golf et cove which is considered by many to be one of the most spectacular beaches on the Catalan coast. You can also put your towel on Playa de Port Bo, Playade En Calauand Playa del Port Pelegri which are much more accessible but also touristy. You can lie quietly on fine golden sand and enjoy an incredible view of the blue waters of the Mediterranean.

In summer, in the Botanical Garden of Cap Roig is celebrated the Festival of Cap Roig and in the church of Sant Pere the Cycle of Summer Concerts organized by the Joventuts Musicals de Palafrugell. The annual habanera meeting, which brings together thousands of people at Port Bo beach, is one of the best-known representations in the region.

Calella de Palafrugell has the label Poble amb encant awarded by the Catalan Tourism Agency. This stamp certifies that it is a place with a particular attraction or beauty, which captivates and enchants the visitor. The seal is given by the conjunction of aspects and elements and elements architectural, urban, heritage, environmental and tourism.
