Shrine of Baba Farid :
The Shrine of Baba Farid is one of Pakistan's most revered shrines. Built in the town that was known in medieval times as Ajodhan, the old town's importance was eclipsed by that of the shrine, as evidenced by its renaming to Pakpattan, meaning Holy Ferry - referencing a river crossing made by pilgrims to the shrine.The shrine has since been a key factor shaping Pakpattan's economy, and the city's politics.

Today we will entertain you with the history and interesting information of Pakpattan. Pakpattan, also known as Pakpattan Sharif, is a district in the Punjab province of Pakistan. Pakpattan is the center of Chishti Sufism in Pakistan. I also hold a high position. Pakpattan was known as Ajudhan till the sixteenth century AD and now it is called Pakpattan which is a combination of two words Pak and Pattan. Pakpattan is located at a distance of 205 km from Multan.
It is located at a distance of 184 km to the southwest of Lahore, Okara district to the north of Pakpattan, Sahiwal district to the northwest, Sutlej river and Bahawalnagar to the southeast and Vehari district to the southwest. This city is the center of Pakpattan district and also has the status of tehsil. There are two tehsils of Pakpattan district: Pakpattan tehsil and Arifwala tehsil. The total population of Pakpattan is estimated to be 141,694.
The official language of Pakpattan is Urdu but Punjabi is the most spoken language here while other spoken languages like Urdu, Ryanvi and many other languages are also spoken and understood in this area. It is a delicious dessert. It was first made in this city. Tosha is so unique in its taste that people take it to India as a gift and sell it. Ladley's samosas are famous Baba Farid's shrine in Pakpattan is one of the most revered shrines in Pakistan. This shrine is a milestone in Pakpattan's economy and politics.
Urs Mubarak is held here every year in which people from home and abroad attend with full faith. It is estimated that around two million people visit this shrine every year. Hazrat Khawaja Aziz Miki Sarkari and Khwaja Amrul Hassan are included. Historically, this city is also a center because every warrior and invader who came to Pak-Wahdat subcontinent must have set foot in this city. The old name of Pakpattan was I also find in these books it is mentioned as a city twenty five thousand years old.
Among the conquerors who came to this area was Alexander who shot an arrow at Queen Hans in this area and he was severely injured. Among the invaders who came to the area were Muhammad bin Qasim, Mahmud Ghaznavi, Timur and Raja Ranjit Singh. Founder Baba Guru Nanak visited the city in the fifteenth century to collect the poetry of Baba Farid.
Raja Ranjit Singh of the Sikh Empire captured the city in 1810 and abolished the political autonomy of the chief of the Baba Farid shrine. However, Ranjit Singh also fixed an annual stipend of Rs. 9,000 for the shrine Despite being a Muslim ruler, it had increased its legal and political status. After defeating the Sindh Empire during the British rule, it was made the headquarters of Punjab in 1849. Between 1890 and 1920, the British occupied southern Punjab including Pakpattan. Dozens of new villages and small towns were settled by laying canals in the area

Pakpattan is the 48th-most-populous city in Pakistan (176,693). The top 10 most populous cities in Pakistan are: Karachi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Peshawar, Multan, Hyderabad, Islamabad, Quetta.
Pakpattan was founded as a village by the name of Ajodhan. Ajodhan was the location of a ferry service across the Sutlej River that rendered it an important part of the ancient trade routes that connected Multan to Delhi. Given its position on the flat plains of Punjab, Ajodhan was vulnerable to waves of invasions from Central Asia that began in the late 10th century. It was captured by Sebüktegin in 977–78 CE and by Ibrahim Ghaznavi in 1079–80.

Govt. Postgraduate College Pakpattan is an old institution established in 60's. Its building stands at a place where there were Samadhan, holy place for hindues. The muhalla where the college building stands now is called Muhalla Samadhan wala.
There are still remnants of a holy pond there. It is the only college run by govt. for imparting arts, science and commerce education. Intermediate, graduation and masters classes are held here.

Fardia College is named after a Sufi saint Baba Farid Ud Din. He is also considered the first poet of Punjabi language.
