South Africa, Knysna, Mossel Bay, Oudtshoorn - Garden Route South Africa Part2 - South Africa Travel

Drive through Southern Coast of South Africa. A perfect Garden Route road trip along coastal line of South Africa. This South Africa travel series covers the key destinations starting from Johannesburg to Cape Town.
South Africa also follow left hand driving, so driving was quite easy. The road following the coast line is extremely good and people in general drive safe and slow inside the towns and colonies. Our Indian driving license was good enough to rent a car from Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape. We dropped it in Cape town before taking the flight from there. But yes, just to be little more relaxed we did purchase insurance for any damage to the car.

Enjoy watching our road trip and do let us know if you liked the video !

S1 – Ep 406 – Oudtshoorn – Sandstone Buildings Lined the Streets!

We had quite an adventurous trip to Oudtshoorn, enduring misty conditions on our drive through Robinson Pass, which obscured the scenic vistas, but we pressed on. Our stay at The Old Mill Lodge, just outside Oudtshoorn, left us thoroughly impressed, with the soothing sound of the river and the stunning natural beauty around us. The next morning, brimming with energy, we ventured into Oudtshoorn and were, despite the persistent rain, immediately captivated and enthused by the charming old sandstone buildings that lined the streets. It promised to be an incredible experience and indeed it was. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #travelongravel #westerncape #oudtshoorn

Knysna South Africa - The Heart of the Garden Route | 90+ Countries With 3 Kids

Located on South Africa’s famous Garden Route, Knysna (pronounced as ‘ny-zah’), is one of the country’s most famous locations. It is a natural paradise of lush, indigenous forests, tranquil lakes, wildlife and golden beaches. The breathtakingly pretty lagoon is now a protected marine reserve that is home to the extraordinary sea horse and over 200 species of fish.

The endangered Knysna seahorse is named after the town and can be spotted during a good snorkeling session in the estuary.

We really enjoyed the view from the heads - a striking geological spot made up of a pair of huge, brightly coloured cliffs lying at the mouth of the lagoon, flanking a channel of potentially treacherous water that flows into Knysna lagoon. We were told that from the banks of the rocks we could see whales because Knysna is on the migratory route of the Southern Right and other species but unfortunately we weren't able to see one these marine mammals.

Enjoy the video and let us know where you’re watching from!

Greater Oudtshoorn Tourism

The towns of Oudtshoorn and De Rust are in the Klein Karoo between the Swartberg and Outeniqua mountains. Oudtshoorn is the ostrich capital of the world. The world's biggest bird is just one of the many attractions in this area of exceptional contrasts and natural beauty.

The region is home to the spectacular Cango Caves, Africa's largest show cave system; an ecological hotspot where three distinct plant biomes (succulent karoo, cape thicket and fynbos) converge; and the Swartberg mountain range, which is part of the Cape Floral World Heritage Site.

Swartberg Pass North to South | Prince Albert to Oudtshoorn

The Swartberg Pass, between Prince Albert in the north and Oudtshoorn in the south is one of the most iconic mountain passes in South Africa. It was the final project of famous South African road builder extraordinaire, Thomas Bain. Completed in 1888 over a period of 7 years, it's quite long as passes go, at 23.8 km.

The Swartberg Pass is unsurfaced and at times very narrow, hardly enough space for 2 cars to pass and requires a steady hand on the wheel, because some of the drops are sheer, and a long way down. During winter the pass is often snow covered, and heavy rain can also make it impassable. But it's just so worth it, with the most awesome views revealing themselves around every corner, each one vying with the last to be the most spectacular.

Thomas Bain walked the length and breadth of the pass many times, he must have been a very fit man. Over 200 convicts were used as labour (no prisoner rights back then), they came from all walks of life, and included lawyers, stock thieves, smugglers and more. Over 40 police officers with dogs were on hand to guard the prisoners.

More about the pass here:
