Come with us as we uncover one of Spain's best-kept secrets, the historical Andalusian town of Osuna in the province of Seville. I have been to Osuna several times and loved it from the first time. In this vlog, we cover the most important landmarks, including tips for Game of Thrones fans. But some of the most impressive sites, in my opinion, are the archaeological sites outside the town.

The Colegiata de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción Spanish for: Collegiate Church of Saint Mary of the Assumption is a Catholic temple built in the sixteenth century in the town of Osuna, in Andalusia, Spain. It was founded by Juan Téllez-Girón, 4th Count of Ureña. Colegiata de Osuna was declarated Bien de Interés Cultural (Good of Cultural Interest) in 1931.
The interior has a nave and two aisles, five chapels and a presbytery. The interior of the church has a rich Renaissance decoration. Colegiata de Osuna has a beautiful Baroque main altar, made throughout the eighteenth century, and the chapels on the sides are all very attractive. In the interior, the huge sacristy is now a museum that exhibits a magnificent collection with five paintings by José de Ribera (El Españoleto) and a carving by Juan de Mesa.
There is a Pantheon of the Dukes on a lower level that was built in Plateresque style in 1545 and contains a small chapel with an altarpiece attributed to Roque Balduque, a paint of Hernando de Esturmio, and the tombs of the Dukes of Osuna.

EL COTO LAS CANTERAS. En Osuna - Sevilla. La Petra de Andalucía.
Osuna aparece ante el viajero sobre una colina, a media ladera, dominando un amplio paisaje de campiña. Esa elevación se conforma sobre un sustrato rocoso de areniscas calcáreas, que aflora en diferentes puntos del territorio. Esa piedra ha servido desde la antigüedad más remota a los habitantes de esta zona para construir sus edificios.
Desde hace milenios, el promontorio más elevado ha servido para suministrar los sillares con los que se han levantado casas, palacios, iglesias… Es así que el lugar recibe el nombre de Cerro de las Canteras. Su color ocre y su porosa textura han prestado su colorido y sabor a la ciudad desde los turdetanos hasta mediados del siglo XX.
Estos terrenos de la antigua Urso, de donde se extraía la piedra para las construcciones desde antes de la ocupación romana, es también conocida como la Petra de Andalucía por sus espectaculares relieves en piedra. Sin duda este sustrato rocoso ha sido empleado como cantera de piedra de manera continuada al menos desde época turdetana, aunque parece que su explotación debió intensificarse a raíz de la importante labor constructiva desarrollada por el IV conde de Ureña en el siglo XVI, hasta la década de los años 60 del siglo pasado que se deja de trabajar en ella.
En el mismo borde de un precipicio abierto por los canteros, quedan las ruinas de lo que hasta el siglo pasado fue la ermita de la Vía Sacra. Se levantó a mediados del XVII y en ella finalizaba el Vía Crucis. Junto a ella, a modo de capilla, permanecen los restos de unas tumbas excavadas en la roca, siguiendo el modelo de la necrópolis.

Welcome to the Roman route of Andalucia. This significant route known as the Roman Baética Route passes today through fourteen cities in Andalucia, which during Roman times was known as Baetica. The area includes the provinces of Seville, Cadiz and Cordoba. It runs through the most southern province which was called Roman Hispania and includes territories which passed the old Via Augusta. In this Route the landscape is of great geographic and natural interest in the Natural Parks of the Subbética, the Bay of Cadiz and the Valley of the Guadalquivir.
The route offers the tourist a variety of experiences including The Door of Seville in Carmona, the city of Italica at Santiponce, the cathedral of Cadiz or the walls of Marchena which are among many that are worthy of admiration.
From the 3rd to the 5th century AC. Baética was one of the territories annexed by the Roman Empire. Under Roman rule, this area was developed for olive oil, cereals and the Romanization of its inhabitants. This included the imperial powers of Trajano and Adriano, both who were born in this area.
