/// ABOUT US ///
Hi! We are Eric and Sarah, a couple of Canadians currently travelling around Central America. We’ve been married since 2017 but have known each other since we were only 6 years old! During our last year of university, we spent 4 months in Honduras on a semester abroad and fell in love with Latin America. Since then, we began planning and saving to do an extensive Latin America tour. 2020 delayed those plans by half a year but during this time stuck in BC, we explored a new hobby (like everyone in the pandemic) of videography and photography. We are now using our new skills to document our adventures around Central and South America. Our desire through these videos is to provide helpful and inspiring content for other travelers while also showing people around the world how beautiful Latin America truly is! Thanks for following along and please leave a comment to say hi!

Any traveler to San Jose must stop by The National Theater. It is a prominent landmark in the city with stunning European-style architecture. You won't believe your eyes when you see the marble statues and other pieces of artwork in the lobby. For a modest price, tourists in Costa Rica can now explore the theatre and learn about the country's history.

Another awesome thing to do in Costa Rica is to spend some time at the Central Market. Any tourist in the vicinity must pay a visit to the San Jose Central Market. Regardless matter the time of day, the vibrancy of traditional marketplaces is energizing. Places like The Gran Hotel, Holiday-Inn Aurola, and San Jose Bacerlo are amazing places to lodge while you experience what the city has to offer its visitors. A Cultural Tale of California’s Citrus Industry

California Citrus State Historic Park in Riverside, CA beautifully preserves one of Southern California’s important historical, cultural and agricultural contributions: citrus farming. In 1873, California’s citrus industry took off when the United States Department of Agriculture mailed two Washington Navel orange trees to Eliza Tibbets, one of the early settlers and founders of Riverside. Word quickly spread of how these trees, coupled with perfect soil and weather conditions in Southern California, produced a sweet and flavorful fruit.

By 1893, Riverside was the wealthiest city per capita in the United States and dozens of new citrus growing communities were created around it – including Rialto, Fontana, Bloomington, Redlands, Loma Linda & South Riverside (now Corona). Citrus farmers flocked to California in what became known as the “Second Gold Rush” and by 1901, there were a staggering 4.5-million citrus trees in California. The industry required a large workforce and immigrant workers quickly filled the need. Native California Indians were among the first to farm the new California Gold,” but anti-Native American sentiment resulted in a decline in the workforce. The Native Americans were mostly replaced by Chinese immigrants, but soon enough – thanks to anti-Chinese sentiment & The Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 – they too were replaced. This time, Japanese immigrants filled the void and became the largest of any labor group in the entire citrus industry. However, once again, anti-Japanese sentiment in the United States soon forced them out and they were eventually replaced by Hispanic immigrants.

In the 1920’s, the Cristero War in Mexico – spawned by the imposition of secularist and anti-Catholic articles in Mexico’s Constitution – resulted in hundreds of thousands of Mexican citizens immigrating to the United States. They quickly filled the void in California’s citrus industry and soon enough they became the largest labor group in the entire industry. For a small $5 entry fee, you can explore California State Historic Park for yourself and learn more about these immigrant work group’s contribution to Southern California’s cultural and agricultural heritage.

Everything Wrong with Don't Come to Hawaii Social Media Posts (as a local)

I recently came across an opinion piece entitled, “Hawaii is not and will never be your vacation ‘paradise’” and I wanted to provide commentary as a local who grew up in Hawaii and is currently living here because some of the statements made in the article are pretty bold. More importantly, that opinion is but one opinion. There are many more.

I hope people outside of Hawaii understand that not all locals have such strong opposition to tourists visiting Hawaii. It seems that one of the most vocal narratives online about Hawaii is that locals don't want tourists to come for a myriad of reasons. So I thought I'd provide another opinion about visitors coming to Hawaii.

We hear the term sustainable tourism and I think defining that term with well-defined benchmarks is key. Because until Hawaii figures out other economic industries that can work in Hawaii in the long-term, locals will continue to live in a state fueled by tourism.

10 Things To Know Before Visiting Costa Rica

????Luxury Homes Costa Rica SUBSCRIBE to our YouTube Channel.

????????Hello Everyone, after living in Costa Rica for around 18 years I think I know it very well, Costa Rica is a beautiful country in Central America, full of amazing nature, wildlife and nice people, it offers very easy access to and from north and south America.

????????I am John Ordonez and I manage Luxury Homes Costa Rica, company I created around 10 years ago. If you are considering retiring in Costa Rica, investing here or you just like the beach and look at nice architecture, I want to invite you personally to subscribe to our channel and follow us on our social media facebook, Instagram, tweeter and linkedin.

????????We will share new listings, Costa Rican locations, Real Estate tips, interviews and tendencies in the Real Estate world. We up load content every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday so I hope can see you soon!

????????10 Things you should know Before Visiting Costa Rica!

????????When planning a vacation, looking for a retiring country, a more relaxed life and beautiful beaches, Costa Rica is definitely an option, but there are some things you should know before you come for vacation or before you make that permanent move.
If you are interested in this amazing country full of amazing unique beach spots, incredible mountains, volcanoes and wildlife, stay tune this video is for you!

1) Costa Rica is full of wildlife and when traveling in Costa Rica you will be able to experience it first hand so be careful with the Monkeys, spiders, coatis, Iguanas and Scorpions, which are very very common here, watch out and check your bed before you go to sleep so you do have an scorpion sleeping with you!
2) Costa Rica’s currency is Colon so make sure you exchange some money at the airport and have enough so you do not pay extra exchange when in the country. The best exchange rate is offered by the local banks, Banco Nacional, Banco de Costa Rica. If you do not have time to get Colones, USD Dollars will be accepted in most places if you pay with 5,10 and 20 dollar bills.
3) If you will be visiting different beach locations try to rent a four-wheel drive car, most of the roads in the country are not the best and many of them are not paved.
4) Even tough Costa Rica is safer than most of the countries in the area, there is crime so be careful with you belongings, specially cameras, computers, digital equipment and obviously your money! Most thieves will try to brake in your car and get your stuff; do not leave expensive stuff in the car!
5) Remember Costa Rica is a tropical country so there are a lot of mosquitoes, bugs and all those things so be prepared before you go to the forest, mountains and beach areas since most of them are remote.
6) Costa Rica does not have an army and that’s great but police control is also short or almost no presence in many beach locations so be careful and take care of yourself.
7) Medical care in Costa Rica is very famous and cheaper than many countries, dental treatments, surgeries, esthetic procedures as well however, if you are planning to go to live by the beach and live in those rural areas, medical service will not be close, if you wish to have quality medical services you will need to live close to the bigger cities.
8) Many tourists come to Costa Rica for it’s beaches and surf spot locations, so here are some of the most famous ones Hermosa , Tamarindo , Santa Teresa and Domical beach among other on the pacific side and on the Caribbean Uvita, Domincal, Matapalo among others.
9) Costa Rica is not a cheap country, some times could be even more expensive than different locations in the US and in the world however, in Costa Rica you will find unique weather, Unique real estate and very very exclusive home communities in many of the locations! Actually some very famous people have acquire vacation homes here, celebrities Mel Gibson and Tom Brady have their vacation home in this country.
10) Costa Rica offers in some areas some of the most stable and best weathers in the world and also some areas are famous for the longevity of it’s people, so all these are advantages that no many countries can offer.

VIRTUAL HIKE: Locos por el Bosque

Our first time hiking a cloud forest. Join us for this mud-soaked afternoon in Costa Rica's central valley!

Costa Rica

Costa Rica's Irazu Volcano is an active strato-volcano which is constantly monitored. The last major eruptions were from 1963-1965 with intermittent eruptions and lava flows since.

Jessica Eggers explains how important it is for the School of Public Health at the Albany University, State University of New York to visit places like Costa Rica and the Irazu Volcano.

San Gerardo de Rivas

San Gerardo de Rivas is the town at the base of Chirripo, which is the tallest mountain in the country of Costa Rica. It is accessible from Perez Zeledon by public bus and the Hotel Roca Dura is a great place to stay. I truly enjoyed watching the birdlife from my room which included a pair of toucans. The hike in the rain uphill to the Cloudbridge Reserve was tough, but it is a beautiful location. Julia Falls was in full flood and was a spectacular sight.
