Vigo City Foodie Short Break - Days 1-4: The Coastal City of Vigo & O Morrazo

Stage Days 1-4: Coastal City of Vigo & O Morrazo

Come join our co-founder on a flavourful short break savouring the seafood, wines on Galicia`s Southern Rias Baixas coast. Our small group food, wine and walking journey starts in the urban coastal city of Vigo, Europe´s largest fishing port and second in the world behind Tokyo.

The first few days we explore the Rias Baixas, taking a boat ride to a fishing village for a walk around the market to learn about the different varieties of fish and seafood caught locally in the bay. Then a hands-on Galician Coastal Cooking class with a chef specializing in traditional seafood dishes of the area.

We like to make things a bit flexible, so you will have a choice on one of the days when in Vigo to explore the city as you please, take a sailing trip over to the golden beaches of the Cies Islands or walk part of the Camino Portuguese coastal way visiting a winery in the sub-zone of O Rosal. If you haven´t been to Santiago de Compostela then you could spend the day there to visit the Cathedral and the old quarter with our expert local guide.

Our trip comes to an end with a special show cooking farewell dinner of innovative Galician cuisine at a Michelin-starred restaurant and a cocktail at the skyline bar of our hotel with amazing night views of the bay, a great way to start our memorable trip.

WTT Spain: Granbazan Winery

I had the pleasure of visiting the Granbazan Winery in Pontevedra, Spain. This is the third bodega I visited on my tour of Galicia, however, it was not the least of the three. Granbazan is a beautiful winery with rolling hills and stunning views of the Galician countryside. I was greeted by Carolina Garcia Otero who provided me with a fantastic tour of their bodega. We tried three delicious bottles. The first was the Granbazan Etiqueta Verde which is great with appetizers. The second bottle was Etiqueta Ambar which is better with meats. Our third bottle, which was my favorite was the Ganbazan Limousin. Overall I had a fun time at the Granbazan winery and I look forward to visiting the winery again in October with our WTT Galician Wine Escape.
