Places to see in ( Newmarket - UK )

Places to see in ( Newmarket - UK )

Newmarket is a market town in the English county of Suffolk, approximately 65 miles north of London. Newmarket is generally considered the birthplace and global centre of thoroughbred horse racing and a potential World Heritage Site.

Newmarket is a major local business cluster, with annual investment rivalling that of the Cambridge Science Park, the other major cluster in the region. Newmarket is the largest racehorse training centre in Britain, the largest racehorse breeding centre in the country, home to most major British horseracing institutions, and a key global centre for horse health. Two Classic races, and an additional three British Champions Series races are held at Newmarket every year.

Newmarket has been a centre for British royalty since James I, and was also a home to Charles I, Charles II and many monarchs since. The current monarch, Queen Elizabeth, regularly visits the town to see her horses in training.

Newmarket has over fifty horse training stables, two large racetracks, The Rowley Mile and The July Course and one of the most extensive and prestigious horse training grounds in the world.

Newmarket is home to over 3,500 racehorses, and it is estimated that one in every three local jobs is related to horse racing. Newmarket is home to Palace House, the National Heritage Centre for Horseracing and Sporting Art, the National Horseracing Museum, Tattersalls the racehorse auctioneers, and two of the world's foremost equine hospitals for horse health. Newmarket is surrounded by over sixty horse breeding studs. On account of its leading position in the multibillion-pound horse racing and breeding industry, it is also a major export centre.

Racing at Newmarket has been dated as far back as 1174, making it the earliest known racing venue of post-classical times. King James I (reigned 1603–1625) greatly increased the popularity of horse racing there, and King Charles I followed this by inaugurating the first cup race in 1634. The Jockey Club's clubhouse is in Newmarket, though its administration is based in London.

Newmarket railway station is on the Cambridge - Bury St. Edmunds - Ipswich rail line, formerly belonging to the Great Eastern Railway (later part of the LNER). Newmarket's first railway was a line built by the Newmarket and Chesterford Railway and opened in 1848 (known as the Newmarket Railway). It branched off the London - Cambridge main line at Great Chesterford and ran about 15 miles (24 km) north eastwards. There was an attractive terminus in Newmarket, with intermediate stations at Bourne Bridge, Balsham Road and Six Mile Bottom.

10 Most Miserable Places to Live in England

What are the most miserable places to live in England? Every living human has the right to a decent living. If prudent management of resources and respect for human dignity is put at the fore of all government policies and programs, there won’t be anyone living in miserable places as there would be no miserable place to live. The attention here is on England that has plenty of glamorous places. Anyone that has ever been to the most miserable places to live in England will develop choler for the affluence of the best places in England. These most miserable places to live in England are essentially the most depressing places to live in England. Let’s now analyze the places other people accept or are forced to accept as their home.
10. Harrow
We want to start with Harrow, a large town in Greater London which is the main settlement of the London Borough of Harrow. It lies about 9.5 miles northwest of Charing Cross and about 5.4 miles south of Watford.
In 2012, a popular ranking by the Happy at Home Survey, Harrow was included among the gloomiest places to live. Ever since then, it has remained one of the most miserable places to live in England. Rather than improving, the town’s newspaper, The Harrow Times, recently listed it among the most depressing places to live in England. Another survey conducted among its residents places it on the bottom of the worst places to live. Similarly, the Office for National Statistics ranked it as the fourth of the most miserable places to live in the UK, considering how tough it is to survive in Harrow on an annual income of under £60,000.
9. Doncaster
The next one of the most miserable places to live in England is Doncaster, a large town in South Yorkshire. The minster town named after the River Don flowing through it is the principal settlement of the Metropolitan Borough of Doncaster. The market town is also the second-largest in South Yorkshire.
People who live in Doncaster are the ones who voted it to the rank of top ten worst places to live in the UK for consecutive years. In a survey of the towns in South Yorkshire, Doncaster was ranked as the most dangerous. Among the 110 cities, towns, and villages in the area, Doncaster is among the top 20 most dangerous. In a recent year, it was voted as the overall second worst place in Britain. The overall crime rate in 2020 was 128 crimes per 1,000 people. It’s indeed one of the most depressing places to live in England and the UK.
8. Ipswich
Ipswich, a large port town and borough in Suffolk, is another one of the 10 most miserable places to live in England. Ipswich in East Anglia is a county town located 10 miles from the mouth of the River Orwell and the North Sea. It is also 67 miles away from London northeast, 45 miles southeast of Cambridge, 40 miles south of Norwich.
The crime rate in Ipswich is as bad as 100 crimes to 1000 people. Moving around the central parts of the town, where crime often occurs, you'd see that it is one of the most depressing places to live in England. Even though it has one of the fastest-growing economies in the UK thanks to the reinvention in its popular waterfront region and the introduction of the University of Suffolk, it remains relatively the most deprived area in Suffolk.
7. Burnley
Burnley, a town in Lancashire, 21 miles north of Manchester and 20 miles east of Preston, is another one of the most miserable places to live in England. The town at the confluence of the River Brun and River Calder is known for the manufacturing and aerospace industries. However, that hasn’t taken it out of the list of the most depressing towns in England.
As of 2019, over 8,829 children in Burnley were regarded as living in poverty, almost half within the town, after housing costs. Figures from Burnley are among the highest in the Northwest.

Newmarket Walk: Town Centre【4K】

Located in the county of Suffolk, at the western end around 12 miles east of Cambridge, is the town of Newmarket.

The town is very strongly associated with Newmarket Racecourse on Newmarket Heath, just west of the town centre. It is believed that the Newmarket Heath area was inhabited as early as the Stone Age. During the Iron Age this area was owned by the Iceni Tribe, whose last ruler, Boudica/Boadicea led a rebellion against the Romans in 60/61 AD.

In 1200 AD royal permission was granted for a market in the town to the new Lord of the Manor, Sir Richard de Argentein, making it one of the oldest medieval markets in Suffolk. Brewing and baking industries developed to cater for pilgrims, merchants and travellers.

Newmarket's association with horse racing began in the early 17th century when King James I made hunting trips in the area. The oldest record of a horse race in Newmarket dates back to the 19th March 1619, where James I is said to have tarried too long in the town on account of wanting to see a race. A few decades later, in 1647, King Charles I was held prisoner in Newmarket Palace en route to his trial and execution in London. After the post-civil war Restoration of the Crown, Charles II visited Newmarket in 1666, ushering a prosperous era of racing in the town.

Newmarket Racecourse hosts two of the five Classics of UK flat racing, namely the 2000 Guineas Stakes and the 1000 Guineas Stakes. The 2000 Guineas was first run in 1809, and the 1000 Guineas was first run in 1814. The two respective names come from the original prize money. A guinea amounted to 21 shillings or £1.05. If you're confused by shillings, just ask your boomer relatives. The first railway line arrived in Newmarket in 1848, where it allegedly received priority status for construction as the nobility and MPs wanted to be able to visit Newmarket races and get there and back to London within a day.

In 2011 Frankel won the 2000 Guineas on his way to becoming the world's best thoroughbred racehorse, with a strong connection to the town. As of today the 2000 Guineas and 1000 Guineas have both been run for over 200 years, making them two of the oldest sporting competitions still running in the UK.
