9. Lake Tuz
The 9th best thing to do in Cappadocia is to visit Lake Tuz. Not only is Lake Tuz the largest salt lake in Turkey, but it’s also one of the largest salt lakes in the world. It’s known for its vibrant pink color.
8. Uchisar Castle
At number 8 we have Uchisar Castle, which towers above the Cappadocia valleys and is the highest point in the area. The castle is the biggest and most beautifully carved rock formation in the region.
7. Go on a camel ride
There are many ways to explore the Cappadocia valleys and one fun option is from the back of a camel or horse. There are many tour operators in and around Göreme that offer one or two hour rides. We decided to go on a camel ride during sunrise.
6. Göreme Open-Air Museum
At number 6, we have the Göreme Open-Air Museum. This isn’t your everyday museum. It’s actually a large outdoor area, home to various monasteries, churches and chapels carved out of the rock.
5. Watch the balloons at sunrise
The 5th best thing to do in Cappadocia is to watch the hot air balloons at sunrise. Watching hundreds of balloons floating through the orange skies is a truly magical sight. You can find viewpoints all around Göreme that offer magnificent views of the action.
4. Ihlara Valley
The fourth best thing to do in Cappadocia is to explore Ihlara Valley. The Ihlara Valley is about 100 meters deep and about 10 km long, which makes it the perfect hiking destination. It was once a settlement area that hosted monastery life between the 4th to 13th centuries.

Cappadocia is extremely fascinating and the underground cities are a big reason why. You can find approximately 200 underground cities in Cappadocia, which were built to protect the inhabitants from outsiders. This allowed 1000s of people to live their lives in total secrecy! Today, you can visit some of these underground cities and explore various levels.
2. Hiking the valleys
Filled with fairy chimneys and surreal volcanic rock formations, Cappadocia is home to some of the most beautiful valleys in the world. From the awe-inspiring Rose Valley to the strange Love Valley and the lush Ihlara Valley. Cappadocia begs to be explored on foot and is a true hiker’s paradise.

The best thing to do in Cappadocia is to go on a hot air balloon ride. Seeing the incredible rock formations from above is one of the most magical experiences we’ve had during our world travels so far. The beauty of the sunrise colors and 100s of other balloons floating around us was almost indescribable.

In this video, I visit Cappadocia and tell you a number of things that I wish I would have known before my visit. In this video I share my experience in Cappadocia, Turkey during a recent visit with my wife.
Nestled in central Turkey, this place is just an hour's flight from Istanbul and is renowned for its breathtaking hot air balloon rides.
First off, it's essential to know that Cappadocia isn't just a city; it's an entire region. Landing in the charming town of Göreme, situated on the far eastern edge, offers proximity to the captivating rock formations and fairy chimneys. Staying here has its perks – from the surreal rock formations literally within the town to a myriad of amenities like restaurants, hotels, and unique cave dwellings that define the landscape.
One fascinating aspect of Cappadocia is how homes and facilities seamlessly integrate into the rock formations. It's a different approach compared to some places in the American West. In Cappadocia, people have been living in these rock formations for thousands of years, some converted into luxurious cave hotels, creating a unique and immersive experience.
And speaking of unique experiences, I had the chance to stay in a cave hotel. The room was comfortable, but the real treat was the view from the deck overlooking Göreme, making it an unforgettable stay.
A quick tip for exploration: venture to the outskirts of Göreme, where trails offer opportunities for horseback riding, hiking, and even climbing into fairy chimneys. It's the same area where hot air balloons take off, but exploring it later in the day provides a different perspective.
Renting a car is a wise choice to explore the broader Cappadocia region. Places like Uchisar, with its ancient castle, and Love Valley, though a bit touristy, are worth a visit. Love Valley might raise an eyebrow with its name, but the rock formations are intriguing.
Now, let's delve into the main attraction – the hot air balloon ride over Cappadocia. It's a bucket list item for many, and for a good reason. The experience is surreal, offering a unique vantage point of the extraordinary landscapes.
The process begins with an early morning pickup from your hotel, typically between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m., and a transfer to the launch site. However, the ride is weather-dependent. If conditions aren't optimal, the meteorologists won't give the green light. In the summer, chances are high; in winter, it's the opposite. In-between seasons, like April, it's a bit of a gamble.
Landing a spot on the outer edge of the basket is a smart move for better photo opportunities. The liftoff is gradual, providing a calm and controlled ascent. The pilot's confidence and the stable, secure feeling contribute to a memorable experience, even for those uneasy with heights.
The flight, lasting around 45 minutes to an hour, takes you close to rock formations, fairy chimneys, and offers spectacular views. It's a visual feast, with everyone on board capturing the moments on their phones. The landing is typically smooth and uneventful.
Regarding reservations, booking online beforehand ensures a guaranteed spot, but it comes at a premium – 300 Euros as opposed to 200 Euros if booked locally. Keep in mind that if weather conditions prevent the balloons from flying, you'll get a refund.
As the journey comes to an end, there's a mix of exhilaration and a touch of sadness that it's over. The views, the experience – it's all so extraordinary that you wouldn't want to miss this opportunity. Cappadocia, with its enchanting landscapes and the magical hot air balloon ride, is indeed a destination that should be on everyone's bucket list.

Things To Know Before Going To Pamukkale | Turkey Travel Guide 2022
Pamukkale is a geological wonder and a very popular tourist destination in Turkey. Pamukkale means cotton castle in Turkish and it's easy to see why when visiting its travertines. It's famous for its blue hot pools sitting in its surreal white landscape however there's also Hierapolis and Cleopatra's Pool in the very same complex. In this vlog we share our experience and some tips to help you get the most out of your visit to Pamukkale.

▸ We stayed in the neighbouring city of Denizli and made a day trip out to Pamukkale as we wanted to be able to spend as much time there rather than be constrained by a rushed tour of the place.
▸ We also chose not to stay in Pamukkale as we found Denizli to be a lot cheaper, had a lot more accommodation options and there are more restaurants too compared to Pamukkale.
???? GETTING TO AND FROM PAMUKKALE
▸ There are minibuses that frequently go to Pamukkale from Denizli however we went by taxi for convenience sake and had them drop us off at the South Gate.
▸ We did however take a minibus (dolmuş) from Pamukkale back to Denizli Otogar (bus station) which cost 30TL per person (less than $3 NZD / $2 USD). It's a much cheaper mode of transport though it can get crowded.
▸ However, we didn't know of its timetable or where to catch it from as this information was hard to come by online so we simply asked around and found that we could wait for one from the Northern entrance on the opposite side of the road to where the cars enter into Pamukkale's gated complex.
▸ There weren't any bus stop signs there but we checked with the guard at the toll booth and a family that were waiting too to confirm it was the right spot to wait. A dolmuş with a sign saying Denizli arrived around 4pm which took us back to Denizli Otogar (bus station).

First Impressions Of and How To Get To CAPPADOCIA | TURKEY
Cappadocia is one of the most popular places to visit in Turkiye and easily one of our favourites too. With rock castles and cave hotels everywhere, it's an incredible, unique, otherworldly landscape.
In this vlog we show you how to easily get to Cappadocia via bus and share our first impressions of the town Göreme in Cappadocia after walking all around it. We're not sponsored by any company, we just hope our vlogs can help with others' travel plans especially when visiting Turkey.

As mentioned in the video, it's cheaper to book at the otogar (bus station) directly in person but we used this partner site to Kamil Koç to book our first intercity tickets online for convenience and did the rest directly in person. They will require your passport and Turkish mobile number in person to send you your ticket as a PDF. Most counter staff around Turkey we found could speak enough English to communicate date and time of travel, destination plus seat number that you want. Remember to check the PDF details that all your information is correct before you leave.

In short, Cappadocia is magical!

BEST WAY TO GO TO CAPPADOCIA FROM ISTANBUL BY TURKISH AIRLINES TO NEVSEHIR | Not Kara and Nate way
Kara and Nate had used a bus to go from Istanbul to Cappadocia and many still do this. But the BEST WAY TO GO TO CAPPADOCIA FROM ISTANBUL IS BY TURKISH AIRLINES TO NEVSEHIR.
While I enjoy bus rides, the flight operated by Turkish Airlines between Istanbul and Nevsehir is much more convenient and believe it or not, the flight prices are as cheap as the bus tickets.
NEVSEHIR is the airport you would want to go to since it is closer to Goreme, the heart of Cappadocia. Kayseri is a bit far off. Furthermore, the shuttle facilities between Nevsehir and Goreme are superb. they can be as cheap as 5 to 10 USD.
This Turkish Airlines flight operates from IST airport and not SAW. This is something to keep in mind.
