NEIVA - CAPITAL DEL BAMBUQUERA DE AMÉRICA
Neiva es la capital del departamento del Huila, en Colombia. Se ubica entre la Cordillera Central y Oriental, en una planicie sobre la margen oriental del río Magdalena, en el valle del mismo nombre; cruzada por el río Las Ceibas y el Río del Oro.
Es una de las principales ciudades del sur colombiano, siendo el puerto de conexión para las ciudades capitales de Florencia, Mocoa, Popayán y Pasto. Es el eje de la economía de los departamentos del Huila, Caquetá y Putumayo.
Su área metropolitana posee una economía muy dinámica basada en el ecoturismo, gastronomía, industria y comercio. Es una de las conurbaciones colombianas aún no oficiales pero existentes de facto en el norte del departamento del Huila. Sus municipios satélites son Rivera, Palermo, Tello, Baraya, Aipe, Villavieja y Campoalegre. Tiene 485.290 habitantes.

Here's how to visit the Tatacoa Desert in Colombia, a crazy landscape that could be a scene from the surface of Mars!
You'll need to get to the town of Villavieja, north of the city of Neiva in Colombia. You can get buses to Villavieja from the bus terminal in Neiva. There are plenty of small hotels in Villavieja so you'll have no problem finding somewhere to stay.
When you're ready to go to the Tatacoa Desert, hire a small tuk tuk from the towns main plaza to take you on a tour of the region. You'll stop at the red desert area for a short hike through the crazy landscape, before continuing on to the grey desert for another short hike.
The Tatacoa Desert is actually a tropical dry forest rather than a desert and is a great place for stargazing and astronomy as the light pollution is so low. There have also been many fossil discoveries in the region which you can check out at the local museum in town.

Talk to anyone in Santa Marta about traveling to Minca and they light up. It is their favorite holiday in Colombia because it's not the beach. Instead it's up in the cloud forest just outside Santa Marta, it's remote and you need a 4x4 vehicle to get there but it's absolutely worth it.
You drive up a tropical rainforest in the Sierra Nevada onwards part coffee plantations, farms, cattle and other animals. The roads are bad but locals are accustomed to it. Finally you arrive in cooler, brisk air and stunning views from the Andes.
