Enjoy a relaxing afternoon walking tour in Spain of Granada city in July 2022. This walk was filmed on a hot day at around 32 degrees Celsius. We start at the popular bar street Calle Navas, which is well known as 'tapas street' and is a lively (and admittedly touristy) spot at night. Lots and lots of choices to eat and drink along this beautiful street. Afterwards we will head to the city center and visit the market place which features a dancing event. You will then experience Granada's breathtaking cathedral, Santa María de la Encarnación, before we head to the amazing Alcaiceria market alleys. Our tour continues to the Calle Caldereria Nueva, also known as “the street of the tea shops”, in the historic Albaicin district of the city. We end this walk at the surrounding bar and dining streets. Granada in southern Spain is a popular city in the Andalucia region and also very famous for it's Alhambra palace, which a well-known building of the Islamic historical legacy. Welcome to my Granada Spain travel guide video where we dig deep into Spanish culture! I eat a lot of tapas and tell you what they taste like. I also explain how you can get tapas for free in Granada.
In this video, I take you on a culinary tour of Granada Spain from delicious tapas to traditional desserts. Andalusian cuisine is heavily influenced from Arabic culture, so there is a lot of overlapping when it comes to Spanish food. Although some food might be Arabic in origin, authentic Andalusian food is uniquely Spanish, having undergone centuries of alterations.
First, I start my afternoon off eating at Bar Los Diamantes. This bar is famous for their seafood tapas ranging from squid to fresh shrimps, and everything in between. Come here right before siesta time, and you'll be rewarded with some elbow space at the counter or if you're lucky, or a stand-up table.
Order a cerveza (beer) or a vino tinto (wine), and you'll be rewarded with a generous tapa (I received chupitos) which are beautiful battered and then deep-fried squid. Besides my calamari tapa, I feasted on boquerones. Boquerones are little fried anchovies. They are served whole (with their tail still on them but sin head) and are meant to be eaten in one bite. Plop one of these little guys on your tongue and experience a wave of flavor rush over you. From the crispiness to the succulent white meat on the inside, these dish is a must-try if you're ever in Granada Spain.
Next, we head on over across the street to another amazing tapas bar called El Tabernáculo. And of course, a Granada Spain travel video just wouldn’t be complete if I didn’t eat Jamón ibérico (regional ham). This place is renowned for their quirky interior design which is clad in all things religious. T
I received a generous portion of habas fritas con jamon y huevos (fried beans with ham and quail eggs) with my glass of wine. It was pan fried with caramelized onions and Ibérico ham, and then topped off with two small runny eggs.
After eating all those tapas, we needed to walk off our food baby.
After this, we headed on over to La Alhambra, a Unesco World Heritage Site that rests gorgeously on top of a hill in all it's glory. Dating back centuries, this Moorish architecture is a sight to behold! La Alhambra is the most beautiful site in all of Granada Spain and is not to be missed!
Next, I headed on over to Plaza Larga for some early evening snacks. I tried Spanish-style Horchata which is made with chufas (tiger-nuts) instead of rice (which is used in the Mexican version). This tasted like amped up almond milk. I really enjoyed the nice foam on top which made it look like a soy milk latte!
Lastly, to finish off our exciting Granada Spain travel guide video, I eat something sweet. I enjoyed a delicious Granada treat called Pestiño. Pestiños are deep fried pastries that are covered in sugar. The flavor is interesting as it is made with sherry wine, lemon zest, honey, olive oil, and anise seeds.
I highly recommend checking out all these tapas places so that you can have an authentic Granada Spain experience!
