Exploring the sights of Almeria Spain

Exploring the sights of Almeria Spain

In this episode our friends Rocio and Javier show us the sights of their hometown - Almeria. Almeria has had a number of movies made there and there is walk of fame in the city.

If you want some great views over the city then head up to the Alcazaba. This fortress over looks the city of Almereia and you get the most wonderful aerial views - especially as the sun is going down. Famously the site was used as on of the filming locations for the TV series Game of Thrones.

In the evening we were treated to some home cooked Paella , which was delicious and Trudy got her brakes checked.

We hope that you enjoy this episode .

The Natural parks of Andalucia

The protected areas in Andalucia provide adventure for the most daring traveller as well as peace and serenity for those seeking solitude. Each one of Andalusia's eight provinces has its own unique traits, arising from their geographical situation and cultural heritage.
No matter where you live there is a National or Natural Park near you.
Andalucia's contrasting landscapes and microclimates mean that on the same day you can enjoy the snowy peaks of Sierra Nevada and the sub-tropical surroundings of the beaches of Granada province.
Discover the wild beauty of the Almería desert and the moist atmosphere in the rainy woodland of Grazalema. Mountains and beaches, deserts and salt flats, plains and countryside, where Mediterranean crops alternate with pastureland, together with a varied climate allows the protected areas to boast a huge array of flora and fauna, including birds, mammals and reptiles.

This video gives you a taste of the National and Natural Parks of Andalucia.

NÍJAR 4K - Los pueblos más Bonitos de España - Most beautiful Spanish villages

Andalucia at its best, this most beautiful Spanish village is the stereotypical Andalusian white village.

Sitting in the valley of golden mountains, this most beautiful village in the world is a must see destination when traveling through Andalusia.

It's far to be as touristy as some of these other Pueblos mas Bonitos de España. For us that is a very good thing.

The streets are full of charm and Andalusian culture and they lead you up to an epic viewpoint where you can see the village from a birds eye perspective......No drone needed!

There can be a parking lot gorilla that might seem a tad intense but don't worry he's all good. Just flip him a coin or two and he will be super happy!

Also the bakery in town has some of the best bread in Andalucia so make sure you stop by and try one of their amazing bread.

Things to do in Almería!

Here is our top 10, enjoy!

Almería: A Hidden Gem of Andalusia

Almería is a province located in the southeastern region of Spain, in the autonomous community of Andalusia. The province is known for its rugged natural beauty, rich history, and unique cultural heritage. In this essay, we will explore the history, culture, and attractions of Almería, and discover why it is a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Andalusia.

Historical Overview:

The history of Almería is deeply intertwined with the region's strategic location on the Mediterranean Sea. The province has been inhabited since prehistoric times, with the Phoenicians and Carthaginians being the earliest recorded settlers. In the Middle Ages, the province was ruled by the Moors, who left a significant cultural legacy in the form of architecture, art, and cuisine.

During the 16th century, Almería played a crucial role in the struggle between Spain and the Ottoman Empire for control of the Mediterranean. The province became a major hub of commerce and trade with North Africa, and it was heavily fortified to protect against Ottoman attacks.

Culture and Traditions:

The culture of Almería is a reflection of the region's rich and diverse history. The province is home to a vibrant and colorful mix of cultures, languages, and traditions, with influences from the Moors, the Phoenicians, and the Spanish.

One of the most important cultural traditions in Almería is the flamenco dance. Flamenco is a unique and expressive art form that originated in Andalusia, and it is characterized by its passionate rhythms, intricate footwork, and emotional intensity. The flamenco dance is deeply ingrained in the culture of Almería, and it is an important part of the region's cultural heritage.

Another important cultural tradition in Almería is the Holy Week processions. The processions take place every year in the week leading up to Easter, and they are a deeply spiritual and emotional experience. The processions are characterized by their solemnity, their beautiful floats, and their haunting music.

Almería is also known for its delicious and distinctive cuisine, which reflects the region's diverse cultural influences. Some of the most popular dishes in Almería include the gazpacho, the gambas rojas, the tapas, and the paella.

Attractions:

Almería has a wealth of attractions to offer visitors, from stunning natural landscapes to significant historical landmarks. The province is home to several natural parks and reserves, including the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park, the Sierra Nevada National Park, and the Sierra de María-Los Vélez Natural Park.

The Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park is one of the most important natural reserves in Europe, and it is home to a wide range of flora and fauna, including the endangered Mediterranean monk seal. The park offers visitors a chance to explore its pristine beaches, rugged cliffs, and beautiful coves, and it is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in nature and wildlife.

The Sierra Nevada National Park is another important natural attraction in Almería. The park is home to several picturesque villages, including Capileira, Bubión, and Pampaneira, and it offers visitors a chance to explore the region's rich and diverse natural beauty.

Almería is also home to several important historical landmarks, including the Alcazaba, the Cathedral of Almería, and the Cabo de Gata Lighthouse.
