DW host Eric Paulsen drives the 66-mile loop of the Door County Coastal Byway. He takes a trolley in Egg Harbor, savors some local flavors in Fish Creek, bikes through Peninsula State Park, goes sailing in Sister Bay and enjoys a fish boil in Ephraim. The next day, he travels to the end of the road at Porte de Morts Park, Death’s Door. Down the lake side, Eric visits Newport State Park, takes in the 360-degree view from Cana Lighthouse, stops at the Bailey’s Harbor Farmers Market, then walks the beach at Whitefish Dunes State Park.

Our second adventure takes us to the 70-mile Wisconsin Lake Superior Scenic Byway, along Highway 13, in Bayfield County. Eric starts the journey at the Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center, then visits the charming community of Washburn. He makes a stop at Bayview Beach and sips some cider at Hauser Superior Farms, before venturing on to beautiful Bayfield. He visits Frog Bay Tribal National Park in Red Cliff, and Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. After lunch in Cornucopia, Eric stops at Siskiwit Falls, then takes in the sunset on the beach in Herbster.

Madison, Wisconsin is the second largest city in the state and serves as its capital. It's situated in a scenic region between Lake Mendota and Lake Monona, and is regularly rated as one of the top places in the nation to raise a family. Madison is known for its bustling art and music scene. It's known to be one of the major cultural hubs of the midwest and has a lively nightlife scene to boot.

Even though it's a fairly large city, it still manages to capture that small-town vibe, largely thanks to its condensed downtown area, large student population, and diversified neighborhoods. While you can find most of its art galleries, museums, and sciences centers downtown, other alluring attractions can be found in Madison's surrounding areas be it along the banks of those two lakes we just mentioned or on the campus of the University of Wisconsin.

Lovers of the great outdoors will definitely feel right at home when visiting Madison. Nature lovers shouldn't pass on the chance to check out the University of Wisconsin's Arboretum which is said to be one of the best of its kind in the country. And for travelers visiting with children, both the Madison Children's Museum and Henry Vilas Zoo are both absolute must-see destinations! Also, a visit to Madison wouldn't be complete without taking a stroll down State Street Madison's main thoroughfare. It's there where you'll find some of Madison's finest restaurants and cafes, as well as shops, boutiques, and galleries.

10 Reasons to Love the Madison Area

Quirky. Vibrant. Geek chic. Madison is so many things: A foodie’s dream, a bicyclist’s paradise…there are a million reasons why Madison is regarded as one of the best cities to work, play and live. Hosts Mariah Haberman and Jake Zimmermann explore iconic spots and uncover the hidden sides of Wisconsin's capital city.

Situated amidst a number of lakes, Madison boasts the best of both worlds: It's a vibrant city filled with local sounds and homemade flavors with gorgeous lake views around every turn. Miles of bike trails wind their way from downtown Madison to outside the city limits, where there is no shortage of historic landmarks and state parks to explore. And wherever you go in the Madison area, you're sure to breathe in a whole lot of what the locals dub: Bucky Pride.

Grab your bike helmet, bring an appetite and get ready to Jump Around. We're discovering 10 reasons why Madison is one of the coolest cities in America!

Cave of the Mounds | Know Your Wisconsin

Cave of the Mounds, located 20 miles west of Madison, was accidentally discovered back in 1939 when workers removing limestone from a quarry blasted into the cave. It revealed a cave over 20 feet high, made completely out of limestone, that opened up into separate rooms and galleries. “It began forming two million years ago and it is continuing to form today, so it’s an actively forming cave. All of the crystal formations that you’ll see here underground are still actively growing,” said Joe Klimczak. “The fossils that we see on the cave are 400 million years old, so it’s really a slice of Wisconsin history way, way back in time.” Explorers and visitors from all over have been going to the cave for over 75 years to see this ever-changing natural limestone cave.

Places to see in ( Madison - USA )

Places to see in ( Madison - USA )

Madison, the capital city of Wisconsin, lies west of Milwaukee. It’s known for the domed Wisconsin State Capitol, which sits on an isthmus between lakes Mendota and Monona. The Wisconsin Historical Museum documents the state’s immigrant and farming history. The city's paved Capital City State Trail runs past Monona Terrace, a lakefront convention center designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.

Madison is located in the center of Dane County in south-central Wisconsin, 77 miles (124 km) west of Milwaukee and 122 miles (196 km) northwest of Chicago. The city completely surrounds the smaller Town of Madison, the City of Monona, and the villages of Maple Bluff and Shorewood Hills. Madison shares borders with its largest suburb, Sun Prairie, and three other suburbs, Middleton, McFarland, and Fitchburg. The city's boundaries also approach the city of Verona and the villages of Cottage Grove, DeForest, and Waunakee.

The city is sometimes described as The City of Four Lakes, comprising the four successive lakes of the Yahara River: Lake Mendota (Fourth Lake), Lake Monona (Third Lake), Lake Waubesa (Second Lake) and Lake Kegonsa (First Lake), although Waubesa and Kegonsa are not actually in Madison, but just south of it. A fifth smaller lake, Lake Wingra, is within the city as well; it is connected to the Yahara River chain by Wingra Creek. The Yahara flows into the Rock River, which flows into the Mississippi River. Downtown Madison is located on an isthmus between Lakes Mendota and Monona. The city's trademark of Lake, City, Lake reflects this geography.

Local identity varies throughout Madison, with over 120 officially recognized neighborhood associations, such as the east side Williamson-Marquette Neighborhood. Neighborhoods on and near the eastern part of the isthmus, some of the city's oldest, have the strongest sense of identity and are the most politically liberal. Historically, the north, east, and south sides were blue collar while the west side was white collar, and to a certain extent this remains true. Students dominate on the University of Wisconsin campus and to the east into downtown, while to its south and in Shorewood Hills on its west, faculty have been a major presence since those neighborhoods were originally developed. The turning point in Madison's development was the university's 1954 decision to develop its experimental farm on the western edge of town; since then, the city has grown substantially along suburban lines.

2 Odd Towns With Festivals & Breakfast With A Lumberjack | Maverickhayes.com

I visited 2 very different towns, both having a festival. The first town I went to is Mt. Horeb Wisconsin with a Norwegian heritage. They are also known as the Troll Capital of The World. Mt. Horeb had their annual Frolic Days festival going on with a carnival. Please visit my website for more information:

After Mt. Horeb, I drove to New Glarus Wisconsin. They have more of a Swiss heritage and are home to Spotted Cow Beer. They were also celebrating with a street fair.
Later in the video I will take you to Paul Bunyan's Cook Shanty in Wisconsin Dells Wisconsin. This unique lumberjack style restaurant features quite a bit more than your typical breakfast joint. I will share my thoughts of the restaurant with a huge gift shop and the breakfast that does not include menus.
