Take a trip to Monywa, Sagaing Region, Myanmar ( Burma) : 9 Places to visit in Monywa

Most Attractive '' 9 '' Places to Visit in Monywa
=====================================

1.Maha Bodhi Ta Htaung
is a Buddhist religious complex located in Monywa Township, Sagaing Region, Myanmar (Burma). It is known for the Giant Standing Buddha statue, the third tallest in the world, and for the Great Attitudes of U Narãda, who built the monastery. This Sāsana (religious) site contains thousands of Buddha statues beneath thousands of Bo trees, the Giant Reclining Buddha Statue, Aung Sekkya Stupa, and other large Buddha statues. Currently, a Sitting Buddha Statue, which is expected to become the world's largest Sitting Buddha Statue, is in construction. Many Buddhist monks can study the Buddhist Pariyatti literature at the monastery. Moreover, meditation centres or Vipassãnā centres are opened at this monastic site both for monks and laypersons.
2.Thanboddhay Pagoda
If you are travelling to Monywa by car you should stop about 20 kilometres before you reach the town to visit this most unusual Buddhist temple complex on 37 acres of land which is part of the Mohnyin Forest Monastery retreat. The pagoda was started on 20th June 1939 and completed on 2nd March 1952.It was the brain-child of the famous Mohnyin Sayadaw whose life-like effigy can be seen nearby.
Some visitors say that this Pagoda reminds them of Borobodur. as it is similar in architectural design. Unlike Borobodur this is a modern place of worship. well maintained. and with interesting samples of modern Buddhist art. There are many different Buddha images. row upon row in ascending tiers in niches along the walls: the total number is 582,257 an amazing figure! Unlike most of the pagodas in Myanmar, the entrance is not guarded by Chinthes. the mythical lions. but by statues of a pair of magnificant white elephants which are sacred and auspicious in Buddhist symbolism.
Thanboddhay is the only pagoda with this unique shape in the whole country. The square temple base (each side about 166 feet) which worshippers can enter is topped by receding terraces. with myriads of small stupas (864 in number) surrounding the central golden chedi. 132 feet in height.
These fruits are also objects of veneration for the local farmers.
If you can go at the beginning of the Myanmar month of Tazaungmone ( usually around November). you can see the annual pagoda festival. which goes on for several days when the villagers from all around come to enjoy the music and dancing.
3. Pho Win Taung
Pho Win Hill is located on the west bank of Chindwin river and 25 kilometers west of Monywa. It is about 20 minutes walk up the hill. There are about 900 sandstone caves which contains many carved Buddha images and well preserved mural paintings. Some caves have beautiful exterior decorations. Some caves have large collections of ancient Buddha images some of which have been covered in gold leaf by local pilgrims. There are wonderful mural paintings in vivid colours representing Burmese life and Jataka stories. Pho Win Hill’s unique Buddha Images and precious paintings have been dated to between the 14th and 18th centuries. This hill is thought to be South East Asia’s richest collection of Buddhist mural paintings and images.
4. Shwe Ba Taung
Shwe Ba Hill is located on the west bank of Chindwin river just beyond the Pho Win Hill. Many caves and temples are carved out from the surrounding volcanic rocks and filled with ancient Buddha Images. 13th century mural paintings can be seen in some of the caves inside walls. Those caves and temples are between the walk through narrow cliffs which is lead down by stone stairs.
6. Alaungdaw Kathapa Pagoda
It is located in Minkin township of Sagaing Region. Established as a wildlife sanctuary in 1941 and opened as a National Park in 1984, it is the largest National Park in Myanmar.
7. Shwe Gu Ni Pagoda
About 20 miles east of Monywa, there is a famous Shwe Gu Ni Pagoda dating from the 14th century. The 33 meters high Buddha Image is sticked by gold foils and the original face of Buddha Image is hardly to see because of a thick quote of gold. The pagoda festival is held in May (Myanmar month Kason) each year when the whole compound is crowded with locals.
8. Htan Ta Loke Stream
Htan Ta Loke Chaung (Chaung means stream) is a famous picnic spots in Kyaukka village, Monywa. There is a waterfall and cold stream that comes from an underground spring. It is surrounded by big boulders and shady trees. The place is also good for bathing in the stream and trekking walk.
9. Shwezigon Paya
Shwezigon Paya is widely said to be the most beautiful temple in Monywa. It is also conveniently located in the center of town close to the local clock tower so you can’t miss it when you walk around.

#LetsGoExploringWorld

Let's visit, Monywa is the largest cities in Sagaing Region , Myanmar, located 136 km north-west of Mandalay on the eastern bank of the River Chindwin. It is also known as Neem city because many of the city's streets are lined with Neem trees.

Monywa and neighbouring parts of the 'Dry Valley' are the only places in South East Asia where you find the Hot Semi-arid/steppe climate(BSh).[3][4] The city barely misses the Tropical savanna/Wet and dry climate(Aw) classification due to the very high temperatures(high evaporation levels) and a long dry season. This has to do with the 'Dry valley' being located in the rain shadow of the Arakan Mountains. Temperatures are very high throughout the year, although the winter months (December–February) are significantly milder(around 21 °C in January). The early monsoon months from April to July are especially hot, with average high temperatures reaching 38.4 °C (101.1 °F) in April.

Monywa received 139 millimetres (5.5 in) of rainfall on 19 Oct 2011. This was a new record for rainfall within 24 hours in October in Monywa for the last 47 years. The previous record was 135 millimetres (5.3 in) on 24 Oct 1967.

Monywa is served by the Mandalay-Budalin branch railway line, but is best reached by bus as the road from Mandalay is in reasonably good shape. Monywa is linked by road to Budalin, Dabayin, Ye-U and Kin-U, and by rail to Sagaing and the Mandalay - Myitkyina line. River transport on the Chindwin has always been important as it is navigable for 640 km (400 mi) to Hkamti during the monsoon season, and most of the year to Homalin.

Monywa is a major centre for trade and commerce and for agricultural produce from the surrounding Chindwin valley, especially beans, orange, pulses and jaggery (palm sugar). In addition, the local industry includes mills for the production of cotton, flour, noodles, and edible oils. Sausages from Alon called wet udaunk are quite popular, and Budalin longyi (sarong) is known for the strength of the fabric and its checked patterns. Monywa's rough cotton blankets are famous throughout Myanmar (with Monywa providing 80% of the country's blankets for a century), and some can even be found sewn up into knapsacks sold to unsuspecting tourists in Bangkok. Other regional crafts include bamboo and reed products, bullock carts and agricultural implements. The village of Kyaukka is well known for its lacquerware utensils for everyday use.

Black market goods from India, especially saris and bicycle parts, pass through Monywa on their way to other parts of Myanmar.

The major tourist attraction in Monywa is Thambuddhe Pagoda , a Buddhist temple with a huge stupa resembling Indonesia's Borobudur. It dates from 1303, although it was reconstructed in 1939. It is said to contain over 500,000 images of Buddha. Close by is the Maha Bodhi Tahtaung Laykyun Sekkya standing Buddha statue, the tallest statue in the world, with 115,82 metres (at a total of 129.23 metres, including pedestal). This is the focal point of a sprawling site filled with Buddha statues, bodhi trees, and pagodas, established by the Maha Bodhi Ta Htaung Sayadaw in the 1960s. It includes also a 95-metre long reclining Buddha statue.

Another attraction is the Phowintaung cave complex across the Chindwin River, approximately 25 kilometres (16 mi) west of Monywa.

Nyaung-gan Bronze Age cemetery, dated to between 1,500 BCE and 500 BCE, in Budalin with bronze tools, ceramics and stone artifacts is 60 minutes travel on a narrow road north of Monywa.

Very few tourists visit Monywa as its facilities are limited.

MYANMAR Best place to travel in Southeast Asia

#Monywa #Mandalay #Myanmar

This video is about the Mandalay area in Myanmar, covering the places of Monywa, Mingun and Mandalay.

Monywa

One of the places that I really wanted to see in Myanmar was Monywa.
It’s not on many Myanmar itineraries but should be definitely more included as a stop in trips to Myanmar.
I accidentally came across a picture about this place when I was looking for images about off the beaten path destinations in Myanmar. It was the picture of 2 Buddha’s standing out in rural landscape of Myanmar. This was a picture I never seen before of all the Myanmar pictures that I have seen on travelwebsites or on Tripadvisor.
A Big Reclining Buddha and behind a standing Buddha. However I did found some information and more pictures about the place on Tripadvisor and decided to go there.
It’s about 4 hours drive from Mandalay but it can be done perfectly on a day trip.

Mingun

It’s a 45 minute boat trip from Mandalay

The first place for me to visit was the unfinished Mingun Paya Pagoda, it was the intention to build the biggest Pagoda in the world, but it never got finished due to earthquakes, the part that is left has big cracks because of that.
Another highlight is the 87 ton bronze bell, the world’s largest intact bronze bell, really this is the biggest one I’ve ever seen.
The place to visit is the Hisnbyume Pagoda, a white-washed temple built to resemble Mount Meru. This place is a real instagram spot, have seen many pictures of this passing by on the gram and just like everybody else I wanted to shoot some great photos before I went my way to the top to have a view over Mingun and the other Pagoda in the distance.

Mandalay

It’s the 2nd largest city of Myanmar and a former capital of the country. In Mandalay itself I visited the Royal Palace also known as the “Mya Nan San Kyaw”.

19 Monywa Arrival and Night Market, Myanmar (Burma)

We Said Go Travel See video 18 for the 12 hour journey from Hsipaw to Monywa. This video starts with our arrival in Monywa.

After our long journey, we needed to find a place to stay. Unfortunately the Shwe Taung Tarn has definitely seen better days and even for $15 with breakfast I said no thanks. The fourth floor rooms (after passing the grime, dirty trashcans and broken windows) had three twin beds ala the Seven Dwarfs, but the sheets had holes, the air conditioning unit was in pieces and I just did not think it was for us. The electricity would not be on until later in the day so we could not determine if it worked and there were no fans. The woman at the desk did have room 401 as well (we looked at 402 and 403). We asked about the newer building which was $22 but that was all full.

At first, the Monwya Hotel said we could only stay one night but George negotiated an early departure and they said YES to two nights. The hotel cost $30 with air con and breakfast and has fluffy white towels and hot water. I like the deck and the bright lights and George is happy to have a mini-fridge. There is wifi in the restaurant area which does not work great.

How much does a travel day cost?
Bus 4500 x 2
Xfer 6000 for 4: 3000
Bus 2000 x 2
Snacks 2300
Tuk tuk 2000 for 4: 1000
Room: $30
Dinner 1800 noodle soup/water: 4000
9000, 3000, 4000, 2300, 1000, 4000: 23300 + $30: $60ish for George and I. A day without so much transport is cheaper.

We enjoyed wandering in the Monywa Night Market.

Monywa and Rajshahi | Two Distinctive Asian Cities | Myanmar's 4th & Bangladesh's 5th City

#monywa #rajshahi
Monywa and Rajshahi are both cities located in different countries in Asia.

Monywa is a city in central Myanmar, located on the banks of the Chindwin River. It is the largest city in the Sagaing Region and has a population of approximately 500,000 people. Monywa is known for its numerous pagodas and temples, including the Thanboddhay Pagoda, which has over 500,000 Buddha images.

Rajshahi, on the other hand, is a city in western Bangladesh, located on the north bank of the Padma River. It is the administrative center of the Rajshahi Division and has a population of approximately 850,000 people. Rajshahi is known for its silk production, mangoes, and archaeological sites, including the Puthia Temple Complex and the Varendra Research Museum.

While both cities have cultural and historical significance in their respective countries, they are distinct in terms of their location, population, and main industries.

20 Monywa Caves, Myanmar (Burma)

We Said Go Travel We were lucky during two weeks of our travels in Myanmar to travel with our friends, Anke and Moritz, from Germany.

Anke read about Monywa with the 452 Buddhas carved into caves and we decided to go on the way to Bagan from Mandalay.

To get to Hpo Win Daung Caves: first take a tuk tuk to the jetty (2000K), second charter a private boat across (there is no bridge) locals pay 200K each, foreigners must charter their own boat for 2500K for the exact same boat, to go to the exact same place. We saw people take their motorbikes and bicycles on the boats. It was very easy and in about twenty minutes we were on the other side.

It was good to be a group of four as the price is the same no matter the size of the group for the tuk tuk, boat and the transport to the cave which is 15,000K and about 45 minutes. Our driver stopped twice to show us the Copper Mines owned by the Chinese. He claimed that The people of Myanmar are not happy, about the mines being owned by the Chinese. We saw local people sitting in front of their wooden huts with children and oxen in their yards. The road was surprisingly good with very few potholes.

The caves are named after U Hpo Win a famous alchemist who once lived there. There are murals in many of the caves and some date to the 14th to the 16th century. Most of the over 200,000 large and small caves exhibit the Inwa (Awa) style from the 17th and 18th century, says the Monywa hotel brochure.

In the afternoon we went to the Standing Buddha at Boddhi-Tataung and to
Thanboddhay Pagoda to see the 500,000 Budhhas—see the other movies about Monywa.
