Uruguay’s multicultural heritage has given the people a deep appreciation for a diverse range of culture and arts. Visiting MONTEVIDEO's Attractions + Eating CHIVITO (Uruguay's National Dish) ????????

Hello from Montevideo! In today’s video, we'll be visiting some of the city's attractions and also sampling Uruguay's national dish - chivito! We started the morning with a visit to the iconic Palacio Salvo, which is a landmark in Montevideo’s Old Town. This was the tallest building in all of South America up until the year 1935. If you think Palacio Salvo looks familiar, that’s because you can find its twin, Palacio Barolo, across the pond in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Both were designed by the Italian architect Mario Palanti. Originally, the idea for this particular structure was to build a hotel, however, in the end only one floor ever functioned as that, and all the other floors were turned into apartments and office space. During our tour, we also visited the viewing deck on the 25th floor, where you get a bird’s eye view of Montevideo.

Then, we continued to Bar Hispánico for lunch, where we ordered chivito - Uruguay's national dish! Chivito consists of a beef steak, which can be served in sandwich or plated form. It is then topped with a mountain of mozzarella cheese, tomatoes, mayonnaise, olives, bacon, beets, eggs, ham, fries and just about anything else you can imagine. It's a must-try dish for anyone visiting Uruguay.

The following day we explored the beachside neighbourhood of Pocitos, which is beautiful for a stroll along the waterfront. Fun fact: Montevideo's rambla is the longest continuous sidewalk in the world stretching 22.2 kilometres in length down the coast! This is also where you'll find the Montevideo city sign for that classic postcard shot of the city. The sign gets repainted quite often, so you never know what colours or patterns you'll get on your visit.

We hope you enjoy this video and we'll see you again in the next one!

Travelling to MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay + Trying URUGUAYAN STEAK + Tannat Wine in the Capital!

In today's video, we'll be travelling from Colonia del Sacramento to Montevideo - the capital of Uruguay - and then we'll be trying Uruguayan steak! So we started the day off in Colonia where we had a few hours to spare before catching the bus to the capital. We spent the morning enjoying a leisurely stroll through the old town, and we also made time to climb the lighthouse, which offers beautiful views of the River Plate and Colonia's old town.

We then made our way to the bus terminal, where we enjoyed a quick lunch of empanadas before getting on the bus to Montevideo. It was a 3-hour journey across farmland and rural towns. Overall, a very enjoyable and easy trip.

Once we arrived in Montevideo, we checked into our apartment overlooking Plaza Independencia, and then it was time to start thinking about food. Of course, for our first meal in the capital, we decided to try Uruguayan steak. Much like neighbouring Argentina, Uruguay enjoys a very high reputation for the quality of its beef.

We ate at a steakhouse called El Fogón, where we ordered the 'entrecot', which is the ribeye steak and one of the most popular cuts of meat in Uruguay. We paired this with a Tannat wine, which is the national grape of Uruguay. Overall a great meal and a wonderful start to our trip in Montevideo!

Restaurant address: El Fogón, San José 1080, 11100 Montevideo, Uruguay

10 Best Cities to Live in South America

What are the best cities to live in South America? Let me assure you that living in South America can be both fascinating and challenging, probably beyond what you’re used to in Europe or North America. Maybe you’re a remote worker desirous of relocating to a new base in South America. Whatever your circumstance, you’re in for a new lease of life that is both exciting and dazzling depending on where you live. After making thorough research, I hereby come up with a list of the 10 best cities to live in South America.
These cities are globally affordable and offer a reasonably high standard of living. The fact is that these cities offer you some kinds of life that you might not find in popular cities on other continents. Therefore, as we discuss them, think about which one of the 10 best cities to live in South America suits you.

10. Lima, Peru
Lima, the capital of Peru, is certainly one of the best cities to live in South America. If you want to enjoy an endless variety of foods in different tastes and at a low cost, Lima could be your choice. Passing through different corners of the city, the aroma of varieties of food will always grab your attention.
Even if you’re not a foodie, Lima offers a lot for anyone living in South America. It’s a large Pacific city with thousands of years of rich history and a vibrant culture being enjoyed by an active expat community. It's not a place for just work. Lima has access roads for visitors visiting famous places such as Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley of the Incas. The estimated cost of living in this the “City of Kings” is $1600
9. Cuenca, Ecuador
Well, I’ll talk about Quito later when I return to Ecuador. But Cuenca is a viable alternative for an expat considering the best cities to live in in South America, especially if your program favors Cuenca. This Ecuadorian third-largest city is a cultural hub where some of Ecuador’s major festivals take place. Beyond that, it offers various culinary options, scenery, and the best of ancient and modern architecture.
It’s a city where you don’t have to worry about the hassles of public transport. You can easily sightsee attractions such as the Andes mountains, Amazon rainforest, or Pacific Coast during your normal workdays. One major reason why this is one of the best cities for a foreigner living in South America is the low cost of living. The estimated average cost of living in Ecuador is USD700 per month.
8. Joao Pessoa, Brazil
Joao Pessoa is not a world-renown city. So let me take some time to tell you about this city and you’ll agree that it’s one of the best cities to live in South America. Joao Pessoa is the capital of the northeastern Brazilian Paraíba State.
While offering you every infrastructure you need to enjoy a city, it’s a less congested city. Thus, the air is clean, the roads are free, and the services are adequate. It’s such a naturally beautiful city where you will always be greeted with sights that can make you wish to enjoy the rest of your life there. But one very big factor favoring it as a great city to live in South America is that living there is much cheaper as the estimated cost of living is USD650 a month.
7. Cartagena, Colombia
The Colombian city of Cartagena with its residential population of some 1 million people is one of the best cities to live in South America. The country’s fifth-largest city, also the second-largest in the coastal region, covers an area of 221 square miles. Cartagena has been marked as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
This alone should give you an idea of what awaits you if you choose that city as your residence. You can find everything you need including restaurants, worship centers, and stores on the cobble-stoned street of the old city that retains much of its original colonial architecture. One of the most attractive things about living in Colombia and its city of Cartagena is that the cost of living is very low, estimated at USD750.

EXPLORING BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA + MONTEVIDEO, URUGUAY | Latin America Travel Series 12

Nicknamed the “Paris of the South,” Buenos Aires is the most visited city in South America. It’s also probably the most modern city of the continent. Although it may lack a world famous icon like the Eiffel Tower or Statue of Liberty, there are still so many reasons to visit! We really enjoyed our time there and some of the main places we visited included La Recoleta Cemetery, Palermo, La Casa Rosada, and La Boca. The two things at the top of our list to experience in Buenos Aires were a tango show and a delicious steak dinner!

For more tips about the best things to do in Argentina, here is a link to our Argentina travel guide!

We also took a ferry from Buenos Aires, Argentina to Montevideo, Uruguay! Distance-wise if you could go directly from one city to another, it’s only 126 miles. But the Río de la Plata, an inlet of the Atlantic Ocean, kind of gets in the way…so the best option is to take a ferry.

For information about how to get to Montevideo and what to do in Montevideo Uruguay , here is a link to our Uruguay travel guide!

They say records are meant to be broken, but I don't think they were talking about temperatures.

The United States is experiencing the worst heatwave on record, as is much of Europe. Records are being broken daily in many countries around the world, but there are a few places where it's still nice and cool, even when they break records.

In this video, you'll learn about 10 countries that have more stable weather, and cooler overall temps throughout the year than the US and southern Europe. Several have 4 seasons, but others have mostly the same cool temperatures year round.

You can get a 90 day tourist visa to wait out the hot summer in all 10, and you can apply for residency in several so you can stay longer if you wish.

You don't have to suffer through the heat. You can escape to better places!

Montevideo Uruguay Travel Tour 4K

This is a video of things to do in Montevideo Uruguay. There is a lot to see and do in Montevideo and you probably need 3 or 4 days to understand the city the best. I was there just two days. The beginning of the video starts out at Plaza Independencia, then around the hop on hop off bus. After that I end up near Rambla walking path and Punta Carretas.

Island Hopper TV is a travel resource for adventure seekers looking to discover many destinations across the planet. Having been encouraged to explore the world outside of the United States I have traveled many places solo and through Island Hopper TV I share the experience.
