Mijas is a municipality that has two main parts. First you’ve got the old village, a charming knot of shining white buildings in an epic landscape a few hundred metres above sea level, but just a short ride down to the beaches of #fuengirolaspain .

It was a Moorish town, huddled around a castle of which a few small fragments and the original street plan remain.

Then there’s #mijas Costa, which is actually some way south, on the coast between Fuengirola and Marbella.

This area has all hallmarks of a modern Mediterranean getaway, with acres of golf courses, yet more sandy beaches and upscale holiday communities with modern homes.

Splendid beaches, delicious cuisine, vibrant nightlife and lively fiestas all make Spain one of Europe’s best getaways. Because Spain encompasses several autonomous regions and islands, the country boasts one of the most widely diverse cultures and landscapes on the continent. Here’s a look at the top places to visit in Spain:

Mijas: a BEAUTIFUL White Village in Spain

In this video, I travel to Mijas and take a walking tour around the village. Mijas Pueblo is one of the most beautiful white-washed villages in Andalucia in Spain. It is located in the region of Costa del Sol and it is around 30 km away from both Malaga and Marbella. You will find this village at an altitude of 400 meters and about 10km from the coast.

The history of the village goes back to the Bronze Age. Visiting Mijas feels like you have been taken back in time, you can clearly see the Roman and Arab influence. This village was called Tarnisa in Roman times, but when the Arabs captured Andalucia, they changed the name to Mixa, and then, when the Spanish re-conquered the village, it was renamed to Mijas.

Number 6. Centre Pompidou Málaga,
Málaga boasts the first branch of the Centre Pompidou to be located outside France. The Centre Pompidou is one of the top museums in Paris, renowned for its modern and contemporary art collection.
The Centre Pompidou Málaga displays an assortment (around 80 paintings and photographs) of the prestigious Paris collection. Highlights include works by Picasso, Max Ernst, and Frida Kahlo. The center also presents temporary exhibits every few months.
Málaga's Pompidou Museum: an iconic, colourful cube embedded into Muelle Uno
What sets the Centre Pompidou apart from the other institutions that make up the long list of art galleries in Málaga is its commitment to making modern art accessible to all. In fact, the museum itself makes it clear that its programme is geared towards people who don't visit museums regularly.
The colourful cube is a draw for both strollers and travellers. The 16-metre-high structure is designed as a skylight, filtering the coastal light down into the building below. However, it's merely the tip of the iceberg, a lighthouse drawing in potential visitors.
Number 5. Soho (Art District),
Colorful large-scale street art defines this neighborhood near the Puerto de Málaga (harbor). Some of the murals in Soho were created by internationally known graffiti artists.
A cultural attraction in its own right, Soho is home to the Contemporary Art Center of Málaga and the Teatro Alameda, as well as many art galleries and artists' studios.
On the first Saturday of every month, the neighborhood hosts the Made in Soho Market, which gives visitors a chance to purchase locally crafted artworks.
Number 4. Malaga beaches,
Malaga beaches attract a significant number of tourists each year, especially in the summer months. The golden sand and sparkling sea are among the Spanish city's greatest assets. Playa de la Malagueta is the city's main beach, with restaurants and bars dotted along the sandy shore. However, there are many beaches along this stretch of the Andalusian coastline.

Close to central Malaga is La Caleta, a well-maintained beach popular among locals. For something different, head further to the fishing village of Nerja, which overlooks Burriana Beach. This is a great spot for those looking for a pretty beach and a charming village.
Number 3. Historical Botanical Garden,
Jardín Botánico Histórico La Concepción is considered one of the most alluring and important exotic gardens in Spain. It has a rich history and hosts the largest collection of subtropical plants in Europe. Built in 1855 and originally the private gardens of members of the rising bourgeois class, a family from Bilbao acquired the property in the 20th century.
La Concepción Historical-Botanical Garden was created in the mid-19th century by the Marquis and Marchioness of Loring. These exquisite grounds are filled with vibrant Mediterranean, tropical, and subtropical flora. Plant species found in the gardens come from all over the world.
Number 2. La Malagueta,
La Malagueta is great for a day of relaxation and fun along sandy shores and a seafront promenade. This beautiful palm-lined beach sits between the port of Malaga and La Caleta beach. It has been granted a Blue Flag award for following stringent environmental, educational, safety, and accessibility criteria.

The 1-km stretch of sand has ample space for tourists and residents alike. La Malagueta's onsite facilities include a children's playground and workout areas, as well as sunbeds, umbrellas, and sailing equipment rentals.
Number 1. Malaga Natural Park,
Fancying a ramble or hike? Then you have to get over to Montes de Malaga Natural Park. The whole area is massive and there are loads of trails that crisis crosses the park to follow.
Though be warned, some of the roads can feel a little sketchy at times. Especially the dirt roads. These can get muddy if it rains, so always be cautious of this when driving.
Anyway, as I said, there are heaps of routes (like the Yellow Route) that are perfect for walking, but pretty wide (almost road-like) and great for biking too.

1. The ancient name Tamisa has not been confirmed by scholars.
2. The plaque of for the level of the floods, does actually exist on Calle Pilar. I had the location wrong.

MIJAS PUEBLO Spain - The most beautiful white village you'll ever see!

Mijas Pueblo is a small town located in the province of Málaga in the autonomous community of Andalusia, Spain. It is situated in the heart of the Costa del Sol, about 8 miles (13 km) west of the city of Málaga. Mijas Pueblo is known for its white-washed houses and narrow streets, and is a popular destination for tourists and visitors.

The town of Mijas Pueblo is located on a hillside, and is known for its white-washed houses and narrow streets. The town has a number of historic buildings and landmarks, including the 16th century Mijas Church, which is a beautiful example of Renaissance architecture. The town is also home to the Mijas Bullring, which is a well-preserved 19th century bullring that is now used as a cultural center.

In addition to its historic buildings, Mijas Pueblo is also known for its beautiful natural surroundings. The town is located in the heart of the Costa del Sol, and is surrounded by stunning landscapes and picturesque countryside. There are several scenic walking and hiking trails in the surrounding area, offering stunning views of the surrounding hills and forests.

Mijas Pueblo is also a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts. The town is located near a number of golf courses, and is a popular destination for golfers from all over Europe. There are also several horse riding stables in the area, offering horseback riding lessons and guided trail rides.

Overall, Mijas Pueblo is a charming and picturesque town that offers something for everyone. Its historic buildings, beautiful natural surroundings, and wide range of outdoor activities make it a must-visit destination for anyone visiting the Costa del Sol.

We visit Mijas Pueblo, Spain for a walk around the most beautiful Spanish white village. This beautiful tourist destination in Malaga is a place everyone should travel to when visiting Spain!
Visit Mijas Pueblo – The Charming White Village on Costa del Sol

Mijas is a municipality in the Province of Málaga, in the autonomous community of Andalusia. Located on the southeastern coast of Spain, Mijas belongs to the region of Costa del Sol Occidental.

Formally Mijas municipal district is comprised of three very different areas, Mijas Pueblo (the village), Mijas Costa (the coastal strip) and Las Lagunas (a modern residential and comercial area). There are also three small rural out-lying districts called Entrérros, Osunillas and Valtocado.

Perched on the hillside high above the sea, Mijas Pueblo is a traditional whitewashed Andalusian village and is just 20 minutes from the nearest coastal resort of Fuengirola.

Mijas is the best place to live in because local municipalities have invested a lot of money into their transport network. Of course, buy or hire a car, but expect impressive taxis, and a well-run bus service.

Mijas is located between the mountains and the coast of Malaga, it evokes the charm of traditional white highland villas, typical for Andalusian villages, from where you can view the coastline and the sea.

Mijas Pueblo is a whitewashed village perched on a hill by the sea, but many visitors who come here will recognize that it occupies a special place in their hearts.

Mijas Pueblo is without a doubt my favourite white village in Andalucia. Living only 15 minutes away from it by car, not only that I got to visit Mijas Pueblo many times, but I have also started to consider it my to go place when I am searching for some peace and quiet. You see, Mijas Pueblo is not yet that touristy, being located off the beaten touristic path of Andalucia.
