Fundada en el 1255 por el rey Alfonso X, la ciudad de ciudad real es originaria del cercano cerro de Alarcos, un asentamiento cuyos orígenes se remontan a la época de los íberos y que posteriormente fue trasladada y que hoy día es un enclave arqueológico. Con el nombre inicial de Villa Real, dicha población ocupó una antigua aldea, la cual se amplió con un trazado medieval y se rodeó de una muralla con 130 torreones y 7 puertas. La ciudad aún mantiene buena parte de las características de aquel trazado aunque apenas queda nada de lo que podría ser la Ciudad Vieja salvo algunas puertas y un corto trazado de la muralla medieval. Con 75K habitantes, Ciudad Real es una población acogedora que pasa desapercibida para el turismo de forma injusta ya que posee un gran listado de lugares patrimoniales y culturales que merecen una oportunidad. ¿No conoces Ciudad Real?
