Places to see in ( Galicia - Spain ) As Catedrais Beach

Places to see in ( Galicia - Spain ) As Catedrais Beach

As Catedrais beach translates as 'Beach of the Cathedrals'. It is the turistic name of Praia de Augas Santas. The Spanish beach is located in the Ribadeo municipality, in the province of Lugo (Galicia), on the Cantabric coast, and it lies about ten kilometres to the west from the town of Ribadeo. Its name is derived from the formations of its cliffs.

As Catedrais Beach has been declared a Natural Monument by the regional Ministry for the Environment of the Xunta de Galicia. The place's more characteristic features are its natural arches and caves, which can be seen only in low tide. During high tide, the beach appears quite small, but is still suitable to go for a swim.

High tide is an interesting time to visit the place and wander over the top of the cliffs, from West to East, heading to the Esteiro Beach. During low tide you can appreciate the size of its magnificent cliffs and the picturesque sea caves, which go from small cracks on the rock to big caves whose roofs collapse due to the erosion of the waves.

Also during low tide you can gain access to a sand deposit delimited by a rocky wall made from slate and schist of strange and complex forms: more than 30-meters-tall arches which remind to cathedral flying buttresses, dozen-meters-long caves, sand corridors between rocky blocks and many other curiosities. When low tide is lower than usual, you can access the nearby beaches through the sand extension. However, it is advisable to be back before the water starts to cover the As Catedrais beach again, which happens very quickly, since the coast stretch is almost horizontal.

Places to see in ( Galicia - Spain ) Castro de Barona

Places to see in ( Galicia - Spain ) Castro de Barona

The Castro de Baroña is a fort located in the parish of Baroña, a municipality of Porto do Son in the province of A Coruña. The settlement, surrounded by two walls and containing twenty roundhouses that still remain today, was built on a peninsula and inhabited from the 1st Century BC to the 1st Century AD.

A moat four metres wide by three metres deep, forming the first line of defence, was dug into the isthmus that connects the town to the fort. Beyond this, there is a rampart consisting of two almost parallel stone walls filled with sand and stone. It is thought that this rampart originally connected to the town walls, creating an area most likely without housing. The main wall is well preserved and has two sides, the one on the right is made up of three gradually rising stone walls, and the one on the left is similar to that of the isthmus.

To the right of the entrance there was a defensive tower where the walls narrowed, so it is assumed that it was shut with a gate to prevent the passage of carts. It is possible that the wall previously surrounded the entire fort. There is a sloped entrance that leads into the interior living space, which is divided into four separate parts. In the first, it is debated whether the construction on the left is either a long bench or a single fallen pillar. Within this building a fireplace, some earthenware artefacts and a hole for a post were found, indicating it could have been a forge. Set against the gate, there are other oval shaped structures with a hall and another that could have been a forge.

The next section is separated by a retaining wall and is reached by some stairs, which are the best preserved of all Galician forts. This section contains a group of houses forming an area sheltered from the wind. A trail leads to the highest part of the town where there are other surviving structures. Evidence suggests the town was self-sufficient. Inside the fort there was no water, springs or wells, thus there was the need to source water elsewhere. It is thought that food came primarily from the sea, and so basically consisted in shellfish and fish. They also ate cattle, goats, sheep and acorns. At the site there are remains of metalwork, masonry and textiles.

The Castro de Baroña was first excavated in 1933 by Sebastián González-García. The subsequent excavations were carried out by J. M. Luengo (1969-1970), Francisco Calo Lourido and Teresa Soeiro (1980 to 1984). Ánxel Concheiro (1984) and Francisco Calo (1985) reinforced the structural integrity of the fort, and a new round of excavations and renovations was started on May 21, 2012.

Exploring the Charms of A Guarda: Walking Tour | Galicia, Spain

In this stunning walking tour of A Guarda, located in the province of Pontevedra in Galicia, Spain, you will get to experience the rich history, culture, and beauty of this charming coastal town. Follow us as we explore the town's historic centre, taking in the picturesque streets and stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean. You'll feel like you're right there with us, experiencing the beauty and wonder of A Guarda.

A Guarda is a municipality in the province of Pontevedra in the autonomous community of Galicia, in Spain. It is situated in the comarca of O Baixo Miño.

It has been designated a European Destination of Excellence (EDEN) by the European Commission in recognition of its proposal for sustainable tourism. Overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and presided by the Miño river and the Monte de Santa Tecla hill fort, the town of A Guarda is famous for its lobsters.

This landscape features elements of the sea, the river and the mountains, and is home to one of the most typical fishing villages in Galicia, on the border with Portugal. Its situation has meant that throughout its history A Guarda has been conquered by vandals, and Norman, Saracen, Portuguese and French pirates. Its monuments include the monastery of Benedictinas (1558), the parish church raised on an old 10th-century religious building, and the stately mansions of the Correa and Somoza families. Its economic activities range from farm smallholdings through to rabbit breeding and free range poultry. Fishing has also played an important role over the centuries, and although most of the fleet is engaged in deep sea fishing there are also coastal fishing boats to be seen.
Thanks to the Monte de Santa Tecla the services sector is booming. This settlement is one of the most important sites in Galician hill-fort culture. The hill is also home to the shrine of the saint of the same name, as well as a via crucis marked by monuments. It is also the venue for all the most important pilgrimages and festivities which take place in the town.

Discovering the Beauty of Tui, Galicia, Spain | Walking & Drone Tour

Join us on a walking tour of Tui, a charming town located in the province of Pontevedra in Galicia, Spain. In this video, you'll be able to experience Tui's beautiful architecture, cobblestone streets, and historic landmarks, such as the Tui Cathedral.

We'll start our journey at the picturesque Plaza de San Fernando and explore the town's many hidden corners and alleys. Along the way, we'll admire the local buildings' unique style, including the Gothic and Baroque elements that give Tui its distinct character.

Don't miss the chance to see Tui's medieval castle and the stunning views of the Miño River valley from its ramparts.

Tui (Galician); Tuy (Spanish), is a municipality in the province of Pontevedra in the autonomous community of Galicia, in Spain. It is situated in the comarca of O Baixo Miño. It is located on the right bank of the Miño River, facing the Portuguese town of Valença. The municipality of Tui is composed of 11 parishes: Randufe, Malvas, Pexegueiro, Areas, Pazos de Reis, Rebordáns, Ribadelouro, Guillarei, Paramos, Baldráns and Caldelas.

Two bridges connect Tui and Valença: Tui International Bridge (known in Portugal as Valença International Bridge or Friendship Bridge), completed in 1878 under the direction of Pelayo Mancebo, and a modern one from the 1990s. Both countries being signatories of the Schengen Treaty, there are normally no formalities in crossing what is the busiest border-point in northern Portugal.

Although Tui is just north of the border with Portugal, a shortened version of the Portuguese Way of the Camino de Santiago commences there, and as the distance is 116 kilometres, this walk is long enough for pilgrims to obtain a pilgrim's certificate.

Thank you so much for watching! Please make sure to LIKE and SHARE the video and SUBSCRIBE to the channel for new videos :)
