The district of Waldniel is located on the left bank of the Lower Rhine in the west of North Rhine-Westphalia and belongs to the municipality of Schwalmtal with 11,000 inhabitants. Lovingly restored small streets and many architectural highlights can be discovered on a walk.

Otto von Bylandt ließ das Schloss ursprünglich errichten. Die dreiteilige Anlage des Schlosses Rheydt besteht aus dem Haupthaus, der Vorburg und der Torburg.

N279 Roermond - Heythhuysen - Roggel - Heibloem - Meijel - Asten - Helmond (NL)
The N279 is a provincial road in the south of the Netherlands. The road is 72 kilometers long and is largely located in the east of the province of North Brabant and for a small part in the province of Limburg. The N279 can be roughly divided into three parts. The section south of the A67 can be seen in the first video. The section between the A67 at Helmond and the A50 at Veghel will be upgraded in the coming years and can be seen in the second video. The last section between Veghel and 's-Hertogenbosch was widened to 2x2 lanes between 2013 and 2017. This road section can be seen in the third and final video.
This first video starts at Horn where the N279 connects to the N273 (Venlo – Maaseik). The road runs north via Heythuysen, Roggel, Heibloem to Meijel. Meijel is the last residence on Limburg territory. The first part of the route runs through the Leudal nature reserve and we pass several streams.
After Meijel we enter the province of North Brabant. We exchange the asphalt for concrete. We pass De Groote Peel National Park on the east side. The video ends at Asten where the N279 connects to the A67 (Eindhoven-Venlo) motorway. This connection was once a very spacious roundabout and was called the Ei van Ommel (litterally: the egg of Ommel).

De N279 is een provinciale weg in het zuiden van Nederland. De weg is 72 kilometer lang en ligt grotendeels in het oosten van de provincie Noord-Brabant en voor een klein deel in de provincie Limburg. De N279 is grofweg op te delen in drie stukken. Het gedeelte ten zuiden van de A67 is te zien in de eerste video. Het gedeelte tussen de A67 bij Helmond en de A50 bij Veghel zal de komende jaren worden opgewaardeerd en is te zien in de tweede video. Het laatste deel tussen Veghel en ’s-Hertogenbosch is in de jaren ’10 verbreed naar 2x2 rijstroken. Dit wegdeel is te zien in de derde en laatste video.
Deze eerste video start bij Horn waar de N279 aansluit op de N273 (Venlo – Maaseik). De weg loopt noordwaarts via Heythuysen, Roggel, Heibloem naar Meijel. Meijel is de laatste woonplaats op Limburgs grondgebied. Het eerste deel van de route loopt door natuurgebied Leudal en we passeren meerdere beken.
Na Meijel rijden we de provincie Noord-Brabant binnen. Het asfalt verruilen we voor beton. We passeren Nationaal Park De Groote Peel aan de oostkant. De video eindigt bij Asten waar de N279 aansluit op autosnelweg A67 (Eindhoven-Venlo). Deze aansluiting was ooit een zeer ruime rotonde en werd het Ei van Ommel genoemd.
