Chapel Hill - North Carolina - 4K Downtown Drive

Afternoon drive around the downtown area of Chapel Hill, NC. Includes Franklin St. and parts of the University of North Carolina (UNC Chapel Hill) campus.
Filmed: October 2020

From Wikipedia:
Chapel Hill is a town in Orange, Chatham, and Durham counties in the U.S. state of North Carolina. Its population was 57,233 in the 2010 census, making Chapel Hill the 15th-largest city in the state. Chapel Hill, Durham, and the state capital, Raleigh, make up the corners of the Research Triangle (officially the Raleigh–Durham–Chapel Hill combined statistical area), with a total population of 1,998,808.

The town was founded in 1793 and is centered on Franklin Street, covering 21.3 square miles (55 km2). It contains several districts and buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and UNC Health Care are a major part of the economy and town influence. Local artists have created many murals.

Though Chapel Hill is a principal city of a large metropolitan area, it retains a relatively small-town feel. Combined with its close neighbor, the Chapel Hill-Carrboro area has roughly 85,000 residents. Many large murals can be seen painted on the buildings. Most of these murals were painted by UNC alumnus Michael Brown. Also, for more than 30 years, Chapel Hill has sponsored the annual street fair, Festifall, in October. The fair offer booths to artists, craftsmakers, nonprofits, and food vendors. Performance space is also available for musicians, martial artists, and other groups. The fair is attended by tens of thousands each year.

A variety of corporations are headquartered in Chapel Hill. Health insurance provider Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina was one of the town's 10 largest employers. Technology companies USAT Corp and Realtime Ops have made Chapel Hill their headquarters location. Journalistic, Inc., the publisher of the nationally acclaimed magazines Fine Books & Collections, QSR, and FSR recently relocated from Durham to Chapel Hill. New companies are selecting the town as their base of operations such as the service company Alpha Install.

The Morehead Planetarium was the first planetarium built on a U.S. college campus. When it opened in 1949, it was one of six planetariums in the nation and has remained an important town landmark. During the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo programs, astronauts were trained there. One of the town's hallmark features is the giant sundial, located in the rose gardens in front of the planetarium on Franklin Street.

Influences of the university are seen throughout the town, even in the fire departments. Each fire station in Chapel Hill has a fire engine (numbers 31, 32, 33, 34, and 35) that is Carolina blue.[6] These engines are also decorated with different UNC decals, including a firefighter Rameses.

Chapel Hill also has some new urbanist village communities, such as Meadowmont Village and Southern Village. Meadowmont and Southern Village both have shopping centers, green space where concerts and movies take place, community pools, and schools. Also, a traditional-style mall with a mix of national and local retailers is located at University Place.

In 2009, Chapel Hill ranked number three on Newsmax magazine's list of the Top 25 Most Uniquely American Cities and Towns, a piece written by current CBS News travel editor Peter Greenberg. According to the magazine, Greenberg based the rankings on a variety of features, such as quality of schools and proximity to medical care, as well as culture, hospitality, and scenic beauty.

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the #travel bug! We started “travel hacking” & finally decided we wanted to go travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this #travelvlog to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling, and we didn’t want to stop after just one year! After achieving our new goal of 100 countries and then all 7 continents (check out our documentary here: we had no plans to slow down, until 2020 decided to force us to ;) which is when we bought a converted Sprinter van to start exploring our own country for the first time. It was a major adjustment and so different than flying every week like we were used to, but we are incredibly thankful to be able to continue doing something we love every day. ????????????

Dream Home for Pilots | Lake Norman Airpark

Disclaimer: This channel is not sponsored by the Lake Norman Airpark or any other merchants. It only express the author's personal opinion.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As pilots, who don't dream of having their homes on the airport, taxing their airplanes straight to the runway and taking off in just minutes?

Today I won't boast about the Alpine airpark in Wyoming or Spruce Creek in Florida that are too far away, but Lake Norman airpark that is just 30 minutes from Charlotte, and 20 minutes from where I live.

The airpark is right on the lake shore, and very close to the marinas. If you want to own a boat as well, a dock is just minutes away. The airport was originally built in the 60's and converted into an airpark in the 90's. Currently, it is owned by the Lake Norman Airpark Owners Association.

So how much does it cost? I checked the price on Zillow and found out it varies from 0.5 million dollars to 1 million dollars. It is not cheap but definitely more affordable than some of the lake houses.

Another good reason to live there is to socialize with other pilots. Every week, the EAA Chapter 309 organizes pilots to build airplanes in their hangars together. I have been to one of them, and in my next video, I will invite the property owners/pilots to share their experience of living in the airpark.

5 Top-Rated Tourist Attractions in Raleigh, North Carolina | US Travel Guide

5 Top-Rated Tourist Attractions in Raleigh, United States

Named for Sir Walter Raleigh, who established a short-lived English settlement here in the 1580s, North Carolina's state capital was, like Washington, D.C., planned from the start as the capital city. From its founding in 1792, it was called the City of Oaks, and its leaders ever since have been committed to preserving and maintaining its parks and trees. The result is an attractive and very livable city, where modern glass and steel construction is softened by parks and greenways. Both visual and performing arts are important here, and you'll find art museums and theaters among its most popular tourist attractions. Raleigh's past is especially visible in the Historic Oakwood neighborhood, where you'll see beautifully restored Victorian-style homes. Let's see five tourist attraction in raleigh, North Carolina.

1. Pullen Park
2. Mordecai Historic Park
3. Marbles Kids Museum
4. North Carolina Museum of Art
5. North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences

[TANGER OUTLETS] - 4K VIDEO - MEBANE NC - DEC 2021

Mebane /ˈmɛbən/ is a city located mostly in Alamance County, North Carolina, United States, and partly in Orange County, North Carolina. The town was named for Alexander Mebane, an American Revolutionary War general and member of the U.S. Congress.[5] It was incorporated as Mebanesville in 1881, and in 1883 the name was changed to Mebane. It was incorporated as a city in 1987.[6] The population as of the 2010 census was 11,393.[7] Mebane is one of the fastest-growing municipalities in North Carolina. Mebane straddles the Research Triangle and Piedmont Triad Regions of North Carolina. The bulk of the city is in Alamance County, which comprises the Burlington Metropolitan Statistical Area, itself a component of the Greensboro-Winston-Salem-High Point Combined Statistical Area. Two slivers in the eastern portion of the city are in Orange County, which is part of the Durham-Chapel Hill Metropolitan Statistical Area, itself a component of the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill Combined Statistical Area.
The Charles F. and Howard Cates Farm, William Cook House, Cooper School, Cross Roads Presbyterian Church and Cemetery and Stainback Store, Durham Hosiery Mill No. 15, Griffis-Patton House, Thomas Guy House, Hawfields Presbyterian Church, Henderson Scott Farm Historic District, Mebane Commercial Historic District, Old South Mebane Historic District, Paisley-Rice Log House, White Furniture Company, and Woodlawn School are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.[8][9][10][11]

In 1939 as part of the New Deal, Margaret C. Gates won a competition sponsored by the Section of Painting and Sculpture of the Treasury Department to create a post office mural in Mebane. Her painting, Landscape—Tobacco Curing, which showed a man and a young boy walking in tandem on their way to work on a tobacco farm, was completed and installed in 1941. In 1965, when the post office was remodeled, the mural was damaged beyond repair, as officials tried to remove it for restoration. A local artist, Henry E. Rood III, was hired to create an exact replica of the painting to adorn the new facility.[12]

While the North Carolina Department of Transportation has long had plans to reroute North Carolina Highway 119, currently running through the city's downtown, to a new alignment further west, concerns in predominantly African-American communities along the proposed route, combined with longstanding dissatisfaction with access to municipal services, resulted in civil rights complaints being filed by the West End Revitalization Association and other local residents against the Department of Transportation and city government.[13] Although a four-year moratorium on the project was established in 1999, the Federal Highway Administration eventually granted approval in December 2009.[14]

In October 2014, the city council voted to adopt a new seal and slogan, replacing A progressive community, the perfect place to call home with Positively Charming.

Mebane is located at 36°5′45″N 79°16′15″W (36.095957, -79.270861).[16] According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 8.5 square miles (21.9 km2), of which 8.3 square miles (21.6 km2) are land and 0.12 square miles (0.3 km2), or 1.36%, is water.
