Our FAVORITE mountain town in Mexico that you've NEVER heard of ???? ????????

First-time tourists to Mexico all know of Cancun, Cabo, and Mexico City, but we like to travel deeper to find the HIDDEN gems of Mexico. Come with us as we explore the beautiful mountain town of Mazamilta, Jalisco.

In this Mexico travel vlog, we travel 4 hours south of Guadalajara to the beautiful Pueblo Magico of Mazamitla, Mexico. We share our incredible cabana accommodation (complete with an en-suite hot tub). We explore the town square and grab a fantastic local breakfast at the Municipal Market to fuel up for our hike. We head deep into the forest to find El Salto waterfall and stumble upon some crazy big mansions on the way there. We can't understand why more people don't visit Mazamitla, but if you're looking for something quiet and off the beaten track, add this to your Mexico travel bucket list.

Mazamitla, Jalisco is BEAUTIFUL!!

In this travel vlog, we visit the picturesque Pueblo Magico: Mazamitla, Jalisco. Central Mexico is beautiful!
► Learn Spanish like us!

Truly, you don't need a beach to find beauty in Mexico, even though that's what many people across the world might believe.

This weekend, we were delighted to explore a pueblo magico (two actually!) in the state of Jalisco, Mexico. We got to see our first Mexico waterfall, try our first Vampirito, and explore Mazamitla with a local, our friend Emma. We even took some time for trying Mexican candy before hiking down to the waterfall.

Before coming here, hundreds of our subscribers urged us to travel here, saying it's one of many places you must visit in Mexico. Do we recommend it for Mexico places to visit? You bet! Mexico's amazing nature extends beyond beaches and margaritas (though they are nice sometimes too). Traveling in Mexico is so memorable and special. We truly cherish all the opportunities to try new things and learn more about the culture.

In today's travel blog, we're going to show you an excellent option for tourism near Guadalajara, México. We love to encourage international travel and this is just one more reason to become an expat.

ABOUT US (MADDIE & JORDAN)
In January 2018, we sold everything we owned in the US (except our husky Laska & what fit in our tiny, tangerine Prius C3) to travel the world—starting with Mexico. Since then, we've been making travel videos about our life in Mexico and the new experiences we encounter while traveling the world. If you'd like to join our shenanigans, subscribe to our YouTube channel. You can also poke around our social media to find out what we’re up to each week.

TEQUILA, JALISCO | Day Trip Guide | Tequila Tours | La Alborada | Fortaleza

We are both major Tequila fans, we might even go as far as saying it’s our favorite liquor!  Serve us up a margarita loaded with some tequila and we are in heaven. So of course when in Guadalajara we couldn’t miss the opportunity to go straight to the source. We visited Tequila, Jalisco the birthplace of Tequila and will rave about it for a while.

We’ve been on tequila tours before in Cancun and Mazatlan, but we were able to experience more than just a tasting here. We give a rough guide to follow, from how to get there to where to go, how much it costs and what to expect. Feel free to use this guide for your next trip to TEQUILA!

We eat breakfast overlooking the beautiful Church and then drink quite a bit of Tequila. There are two distilleries that we visit in today’s vlog and we would recommend them to all our friends and family! We had an amazing experience, but watch the vlog to see for yourself!

Have you been to Tequila before?

Do you even drink Tequila? Tell us your craziest memory of drinking Tequila in the comments, I’m sure this will be interesting!

If you’re going the bus route like we did, you can look up times and buy your tickets online here:

Small tour of Guadalajara, Amatitan, Mazamitla and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

Like and Subscribe if you enjoyed the video :)

This is from May 2017. Everything takes place in the state of Jalisco. I visited the 4 cities as a vacation and also to visit family.
I shot everything on my iPhone 7 and also used a FY Feiyu Tech G4 Pro gimbal.

This is my first travel video that I finally got around to edit. I still need to get used to filming and being in the moment while traveling. I consistently forgot to film.

The opening shot is on top of my dads house in Guadalajara.
00:12 we go to the town of Amatitan which is home to one of the world's largest tequila distilleries.
1:10 is Mazamitla
2:14 we go back to Guadalajara
4:58 is Puerto Vallarta
6:58 I switch between Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta

Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for watching and taking the time to read this.

It Took 2 Hrs on Horseback to Find This Hidden Waterfall - Cascada El Salto -Cazos Mazamitla Mexico

Cascada El Salto
located within The Cazos Fractionation
Mazamitla, Jalisco Mexico
Open daily, from 10 am to 5 pm

Walking instructions from Mazamitla: I'm writing this because if you're only looking on Google maps, it's legit confusing as to how you even get to the waterfall. You have to walk to where it shows Los Cazos on Google. There's a gate there into Los Cazos, as it's private residences/cabanas. On the lefthand side of the gate, there's a foot path and you walk along that, there's a small window to pay 30 pesos for entry. After that, the signs within Los Cazos are easy to follow to reach the waterfall. Note: pay close attention to the route. There are quite a few streets in the subdivision, and a lot of turns are kind of similar looking. So it's easy enough to find your way in, but on the way out it gets confusing fusing.
The hike is great from town. It wasn't what I expected, as the majority is walking along cobblestone streets vs. a forest path. However the cabanas in Los Cazos are great! They're pretty much full blown houses vs. cabanas, but each one is unique and is in a lovely setting.

Secret: want an actual hike through the forest? At the bottom of the stairs of the waterfall, to the left, there's a path that goes along the river. You have to hop the fence. It's well worth it. It goes along the river for a little ways, then it climbs. And climbs. And climbs. But where it takes you is outstanding. You end up on a road, and at the top there are a bunch of other roads (that look like they haven't been used in years) and trails and a sign that said Bison Eco Park. I had no idea where to go from there, so I laid on a bed of pine needles in the forest for a bit and snacked and chilled, then went back to the bottom of the waterfall again. Was worth it. I have zero doubt that if I had followed the proper trail/road at the top that I would have popped out at a main road. But, I was fine with what I did and the route I took.

When people say it's uphill on the way back... it's uphill on the way back. From the base of the waterfall to Centro Mazamitla, it's steadily uphill besides one small downhill part. Not difficult, but I was pooped by the end and chilled in the main square for a bit.

Between stone paths you can explore on foot or horseback, you will see the luxurious cabins that have been installed. To reach the waterfall is necessary to make the journey on foot through its steps leading you to the river.
Seasonal running water varies in size but always will offer an impressive landscape. El Salto trail leads to a lovely waterfall. From the entrance of the park (you pay admission of 30 pesos) you can walk the well marked El Salto trail mostly downhill approximately 1.5 hours to get to the rocky steps that take you to the waterfall. The walk to the steps was on a smoothly cobblestoned road past large well maintained private estates and cabins. There are bathrooms before you reach the steps.

You have multiple options for waterfall access and return back to the park entrance: walk uphill retracing your previous steps, wait for a pickup truck (that holds about 12 people ) or take horses. You can also access it by ATV, which costs about 300 pesos per person. If you don’t want to walk, and do not have 12 people in your group to arrange for a pickup truck, you can pay $250 pesos each and wait about 25 minutes for horses to arrive to take you uphill. It will be about a 40 minute horseback ride uphill, and the horses are all fairly gentle. It would have been less expensive to take the pickup truck, at 30 pesos per person but the horseback ride is an experience that can’t be beat. 100% recommend. There was nothing difficult about this hike!
