Visit To Matlock Bath Derbyshire Peak District England Walk About Sightseeing Village Tour 2023 4k

MATLOCK Derbyshire | Full walking tour of Matlock Town Centre in the Peak District, England.

Matlock Town is sits in the Derbyshire Peak District of the UK next to Matlock Bath and close to Sheffield, Chesterfield and Derby. This is a walking tour of Matlock Town Centre
Also watch our tour of nearby Matlock Bath ????

We took the cameras down into the Peak District National Park in the East Midlands and found Matlock Town Centre slap bang right in between Derby and Sheffield. So we thought it would be a good idea to do a full walking tour of Matlock to show you the streets, the buildings and what is happening here.

Matlock is the county town of Derbyshire England. The former spa town of Matlock Bath sits immediately south of the town and is well worth a visit in it's own right due to the tourist attractions there (and to see the sheer number of fish and chip shops!)

The Shane Meadows movie Dead Mans Shoes was filmed in and around Matlock Town Centre and the wider area in Matlock Dale.

Our Matlock Town walk starts on Dale Road overlooking the River Derwent and we pass underneath the railway bridge that takes the trains in and out of Matlock Train Station.

Walking up Dale Street we pass some noteable places and buildings such as Monk Bar, Riverside Antique Shop, Little Shabby Hen, the old Market Hall and the landmark Olde English Hotel building on the corner of Dale Road and Olde English Road.

Also on the route is W Evans and Son Jewellers Ltd which has been trading in the building with the old clock since 1851 right here in the Matlock Peak District.

Plenty of shops, antique shops and food shops and takeaways line Dale Road which is a busy road as you will see by the volume of traffic going through Matlock Town Centre.

As we reach the end of Dale Road we take a little look up the hill that runs up behind the railway station and then take a right onto Snitterton Road and onto the bridge that sits over the River Derwent.

Our route then takes us along Snitterton Road and round the roundabout onto Bakewell Road before coming round to see Bank Road which used to have a tramway system to take people up and down the road into the town centre!

We then head onto Causeway Lane from where we can see Halls Ley Park. We head along Causeway Lane until we reach the Cafe In The Park at which point we head into Halls Ley Park and down to the victorian Bandstand which is home to many concerts and events held in the park.

Then it's a quick look at the Matlock Flood markers and onto the bridge over to Olde English Car Park and Cool River Cafe and then up to the main high street here in Matlock Town Centre, Dale Road.

I hope you enjoy this walking tour of Matlock Derbyshire. If so why not subscribe now for more videos like this and virtual walks from around the world!

MATLOCK BATH Derbyshire | Full walking tour of MATLOCK BATH near Matlock, Derbyshire Peak District

Matlock Bath Derbyshire | Walking tour of Matlock Bath near the town of Matlock Derbyshire in the beautiful Peak District
Also watch our tour of Derwent Gardens Matlock Bath ????

Matlock Bath is a small village that is said to be the seaside without the beach or sea! It's situated right next door to the town of Matlock Derbyshire England in the Peak District National Park.

We took our cameras for a wander along the 'seafront' type streets of Matlock Bath for a look around and to see what's there! We loved it although there were maybe a few too many fish and chip shops!!

Matlock Bath was the first ever deliberately created tourist attraction village in the UK after thermal spring and spa waters were discovered here. The Victorians absolutely loved spa water and thermal springs and so flocked to this little village in the Derbyshire Dales for breaks and holidays and to relax in the English countryside.

Sometimes (incorrectly) referred to as Matlock Baths, this place offers a lovely day out as you can wander the little shops and pubs as well as take a lovely boat ride along the River Derwent (see our video of Derwent Gardens on our channel!)

There are attractive gardens, wooded hillsides, and limestone crags to explore as well as the main tourist attraction here the Heights Of Abraham Cable Car Ride which takes you right up to the top of the cliffs for some breathtaking views of the beautiful scenery here!

Lord Byron once called Matlock Bath 'Little Switzerland' and the term stuck for a while with tourists and visitors

Another popular tourist attraction is the Matlock Bath Illuminations which happen here annually where the whole riverside is lit up by beautiful coloured lights

Motorcyclists and bikers also come to Matlock Bath in their droves and it really is a sight to see when the bikes come to town and the whole village is packed with Motor bikers and their friends! The whole street gets absolutely soaked in motorbikes and bike culture with the most amazing Motorbikes parked up and down the whole street!

Things to do in Matlock and Matlock Bath;
As well as the cable car ride that takes you up to The Heights of Abraham and the Victoria Prospect Tower you could also visit The Great Rutland and Masson Caverns which are former lead mines that have been adapted as show caves.

The Grand Pavilion on South Parade is home to the Peak District Mining Museum.

For youngsters and families, the nearby theme park of Gulliver's offers hours of fun

There is also an aquarium in Matlock Bath and a photographic museum in the village.

The Riverside Gardens and Lovers Walks offer a lovely peaceful stroll away from the crowds, and the nearby High Tor affords amazing views from its lofty summit.

The Derwent Valley Heritage Trail runs through the village of Matlock Bath.

Half a mile south of the Matlock Bath is the shopping centre and working textile museum at Masson Mills.

I hope you enjoy this walk through the Matlock Peak District area. If so why not subscribe for more videos like this from my channel!

MATLOCK BATH | Tour of Derwent Gardens, Matlock Bath, Derbyshire [4K]

Derwent Gardens, Matlock Bath, Derbyshire | Walking Tour of Derwent Gardens in the Derbyshire Dales!
Also watch our full tour of Matlock Bath itself here ????

We took our cameras down to Matlock Baths in Derbyshire and into Derwent Gardens for a riverside walk through the park from the bridge over the River Derwent, round past the fountain and the bandstand and down to the place where you can get a boat trip!

Matlock Bath in Derbyshire is a fascinating place and is said to be like being at the seaside but without the beach (or the sea!) and we can see why

Situated just behind the Grand Pavilion building in Matlock Bath is the stunning Derwent Gardens which is free to enter and enjoy so we took a walk through it and have to say it's a lovely peaceful place to relax here in the Derbyshire Dales if you are visiting Matlock Derbyshire England.

Nearby Matlock Town is a good place to wander too as you can have a nosey round the shops and pubs and restaurants, and Matlock Bath even has amusement arcades - just like the seaside!

Derwent Garden is a fantastic tourist attraction and we'd recommend a visit and an hour walking along the side of the river, and up the cliffside via the Lovers Walk attraction here.
