San Basilio de Palenque or Palenque de San Basilio, often referred to by the locals simply as Palenke, is a Palenque village and corregimiento in the Municipality of Mahates, Bolivar in northern Colombia. Palenque was the first free African town in the Americas, and in 2005 was declared a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.

In this video, I share my trip to San Basilio de Palenque, Bolivar, Colombia. Bolivar is a department along the northern Colombian coastline, inhabited by many Afrocolombians. The department in general is a popular tourist destination that appeals to Colombians and foreigners alike.
You can easily get to Palenque because the roads are in good condition. The cheapest means of transport is by bus from Cartagena or from Tolú. The entire journey is about an hour or so from either of these two cities.
