Places to see in ( Columbia - USA )

Columbia is the capital city of South Carolina. It’s home to the South Carolina State House, a Greek Revival building set in gardens dotted with monuments. Riverbanks Zoo & Garden is a huge park with animal enclosures and botanical gardens. A diverse collection spanning centuries is on display at the Columbia Museum of Art. Dating to 1823, the Robert Mills House is a mansion and museum surrounded by ornate gardens.

The city is located approximately 13 miles (21 km) northwest of the geographic center of South Carolina, and is the primary city of the Midlands region of the state. It lies at the confluence of the Saluda River and the Broad River, which merge at Columbia to form the Congaree River. Columbia is home to the University of South Carolina, the state's flagship university and the largest in the state, and is also the site of Fort Jackson, the largest United States Army installation for Basic Combat Training. Columbia is also located 20 miles west of the site of McEntire Joint National Guard Base, which is operated by the U.S. Air Force and is used as a training base for the 169th Fighter Wing of The South Carolina Air National Guard. Columbia is also the location of the South Carolina State House, which is the center of government for the state. In 1860, the city was the location of the South Carolina Secession Convention, which marked the departure of the first state from the Union in the events leading up to the Civil War.

I am so lucky to have discovered the beautiful small town of Aiken, South Carolina a couple of weeks ago. In this video I'm showing you all the areas I explored during my visit. I started out exploring Hitchcock Woods, I discovered the historical museum, explored downtown and found a place to eat in the alley, and ended the video in Homeland Gardens were I found the thoroughbred racing hall of fame museum! - and I just touched the surface of all the things there are to do in this town!

Goodale State Park in Camden, SC

We visited N.R. Goodale State Park one Saturday. The park's central feature is a 140 acre Civil War era mill pond. The pond is home to a Cypress forest that has a 3.5 mile kayak trail through it.

We also walked through Historic Downtown Camden and ate lunch at the Loop Lemon.

Sesquicentennial State Park - Frog Fishing for Bass - Columbia, SC - Kayak Bass Fishing

I didn't know what to expect on my trip to Sesquicentennial State Park in Columbia, SC, but it did not disappoint. Just off I-77, this 30 acre lake is FILLED with vegetation and lily pads...and at least one toad of a bass. Even though it was a little early in the season, I couldn't help myself from throwing a topwater frog all day...

Let's Drive! Ridgeway, South Carolina - Small Town Tour - Fairfield County, SC Road Trip

A quick drive through small town South Carolina. This drive starts on South Carolina Highway 34 coming from Lugoff, SC. It continues onto S Palmer Street, passing Laura's Tea Room and then onto N Dogwood Avenue and back to SC Highway 34 heading towards I-77 North, which eventually takes you to Charlotte, North Carolina.

Ridgeway is home to the World's Smallest Police Station, Laura's Tea Room, and festivals such as the Pig on the Ridge Barbeque Festival/Contest in November and Arts on the Ridge festival in May. It makes a nice stop on your road trip through South Carolina and Interstate 77 through the Carolinas.
