Longford is a classified historic town, and the streets are lined with charming hotels, Bed and Breakfasts, beautiful homes and impressive colonial buildings. Several parks, the lovely Longford Christ Church, and the cemetery are in the town centre.
It is located 24 kilometres south of Launceston and 187 kilometres from Hobart.

Start from the village green and wander along The Path Of History Walking Tour, which has 34 places of historical interest.
On the outskirts of town, you can explore Woolmers Estate and the Brickendon World Heritage Sites; these grand estates were built by convict labour and are open daily for self-guided tours.
Woolmers Estate overlooks the Macquarie River and is acknowledged as one of Australia's most outstanding examples of 19th-century rural settlements.
You can wander through Woolmers National Rose Garden with over 5,000 varieties. It is one of the southern hemisphere's finest collections of historic roses.

Center Parcs Longford Forest - A Short Break with LOADS to do ????????
Join us for a short-break staycation at Center Parcs Longford Forest! ????
Located near Ballymahon in County Longford, Center Parcs Longford Forest is the first holiday village location for the brand in Ireland. Center Parcs Longford Forest includes 466 self-catering lodges and 30 apartments to accommodate up to 2,500 guests.
There are lots of things to do at Center Parcs for all ages with a wide range of indoor and outdoor activities. The Subtropical Swimming Paradise is a highlight with lots of slides, a lazy river, outdoor rapids area and more.
There was so much to do and the four days we were there didn't seem like long enough. Center Parcs is not just for kids and is a really good short break for adults. We stayed in a 2 bedroom woodland lodge that sleeps 6 although there was only four of us.
We eat out for each of our nights in Center Parcs. We ate at Huck's American Bar and Grill, Rajinda Pradesh, Bella Italia and Cara's Kitchen and Bar. We also ate at The Pancake House and The Coffee House during the day.
I really can't recommend Center Parcs Longford Forest highly enough. We're already looking forward to returning soon.

In this first episode, we will be driving in Country Longford and Roscommon.
The drive starts in Longford town, from Dublin Rd, passing along the Ballymahon street and heading northwest along the N5.
We will be crossing a typical Irish landscape with luxuriant vegetation and farms all around.
We eventually reach Strokestown in county Roscommon.

Drumlish (Irish: Droim Lis, meaning fort of the ridge) is a village in County Longford, Ireland on the R198 regional road 10 km (6.2 mi) north of Longford Town.Evidence of ancient settlement in the area includes a number of ringfort sites in Drumlish and its surrounding townlands.[3] The remains of a portal tomb, known as the Melkagh Dolmen, lie approximately 2 km north of the village.
In 1621, King James I granted Sir George Calvert two tracts of land in the plantation of Longford, one around Dromlish and the other around Ulfeed (now Elfeet near Newtowncashel). The tracts comprised the manor of Ulfeed with Calvert as lord of the manor. In 1625 the Drumlish tract was separated from Ulfeed into the manor of Baltimore, and Calvert was promoted to the Peerage of Ireland, talking the title Baron Baltimore after the manor. He later sold the land without having planted any English settlers there.
Close to the village of Drumlish is a late-18th to early-19th century mill complex, which operated as a corn milling business until the 1950s.Within the village is a monument to a local Land War resistance movement which, in 1881, successfully prevented the forced eviction of a number local tenants.
The village has grown in population significantly from the late 20th to the early 21st century, with an increase from 275 inhabitants as of the 1991 census to 429 by the 2006 census, and doubling again to 931 people as of the 2016 census.

Center Parcs in Longford; biggest ever tourism investment in Irish Midlands

Longford – will be transformative for tourism in Ireland’s Midlands and will employ 1,000 permanent jobs once open. The €233 million commitment by Center Parcs is the biggest ever tourism investment in the region and, as a leader in the short break holiday market with a remarkably high occupancy rate, Center Parcs now plan to continue their success in Ireland.
The Irish Tourism Industry Confederation (ITIC) met with Martin Dalby, Chief Executive of Center Parcs UK, to hear more about his exciting plans for Ireland.
