Places to see in ( Fleetwood - UK )

Places to see in ( Fleetwood - UK )

Fleetwood is a town and civil parish within the Wyre district of Lancashire, England, lying at the northwest corner of the Fylde. The site of the town has been continuously inhabited since the Middle Ages. Fleetwood acquired its modern character in the 1830s, when the principal landowner Peter Hesketh-Fleetwood, High Sheriff and MP, conceived an ambitious plan to re-develop the town to make it a busy seaport and railway spur. He commissioned the distinguished Victorian architect Decimus Burton to design a number of substantial civic buildings, including two lighthouses. Hesketh-Fleetwood's transport terminus schemes failed to materialise.

Decline of the fishing industry began in the 1960s, hastened by the Cod Wars with Iceland, though fish processing is still a major economic activity in Fleetwood. The town's most notable employer today is Lofthouse of Fleetwood, manufacturer of the lozenge Fisherman's Friend which is exported around the world.

Fleetwood is located on the Fylde Peninsula, 8 miles (13 km) north of Blackpool, on the western side of the mouth of the River Wyre. The town itself is on a peninsula, almost 2 miles (3 km) wide, bounded to the west by the Irish Sea, to the north by Morecambe Bay and to the east by the River Wyre. Access to Fleetwood is thus restricted, and for many years there were only two roads into and out of the town. A large sandbank, the North Wharf, extends some 2 1⁄4 miles (3.6 km) north into Morecambe Bay, and is exposed at low tide.

Fleetwood's economy still revolves around the traditional areas of fishing, tourism, port activity and light industry, but since the early 1970s the town has continued to struggle economically. A government report in 2006 stated that three of the town's five wards fall into the 5% to 10% most deprived wards in England. The town's largest and most prominent single employer is Lofthouse's of Fleetwood Ltd., manufacturers of Fisherman's Friend—a menthol lozenge popular worldwide and especially in Japan.

The Mount and the entire length of Fleetwood Promenade has an uninterrupted view across Morecambe Bay, a view described by author Bill Bryson in Chapter 23 of his book Notes From a Small Island as easily one of the most beautiful in the world, with unforgettable views across to the green and blue Lakeland hills: Scafell, Coniston Old Man, the Langdale Pikes. Directly across the Esplanade from the Mount lies the Marine Hall and Marine Gardens, Wyre Borough's largest entertainment venue, opened in 1935.

The 13 hectares of Fleetwood Memorial Park was developed out of the earlier Warrenhurst Park, itself an early-C20 park designed by Thomas Lumb of Blackpool. In 1917 the park was renamed Memorial Park in memory of those who died in the First World War. The memorial statue was added a few years later and memorial trees planted by the children who lost relatives. Fleetwood Pier, also known as 'Victoria Pier', was a feature of the town from its construction in 1910 until it was destroyed by fire in September 2008.

( Fleetwood - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting the city of Fleetwood . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Fleetwood - UK

Places to see in ( Masham - UK )

Places to see in ( Masham - UK )

Masham is a small market town and civil parish in the Harrogate district of North Yorkshire, England. Situated in Wensleydale on the western bank of the River Ure, the name derives from the Anglo-Saxon Mæssa's Ham, the homestead belonging to Mæssa. The Romans had a presence here, but the first permanent settlers were the Angles. Around 900 AD the Vikings invaded the region, burning and laying waste to the church and causing great suffering in Masham. They also introduced sheep farming, something for which the town is well known today.

Masham was historically a large parish in the North Riding of Yorkshire. As well as the town of Masham the parish included the townships of Burton-on-Yore, Ellingstring, Ellington High and Low, Fearby, Healey with Sutton, Ilton cum Pott and Swinton. In 1866 the townships became separate civil parishes. Masham Moor was an area of moorland to the west of the parish bordering the West Riding, common to the parishes of Masham and East Witton. It was divided between the parishes of Healey, Ilton cum Pott and Colsterdale in 1934.

St Mary's Church was most likely founded in the seventh century and stood somewhere near the present town hall on what used to be known as Cockpit Hill. The graveyard yielded 36 burials in a recent excavation. The present church — while having some Anglo-Saxon stonework and the stump of an eighth-century prayer cross — is mainly Norman with fifteenth-century additions. Masham was given to York Minster in the mediaeval period but, as the archbishop did not wish to make the long journey north to oversee the town's affairs, the parish was designated a peculiar.

During the Middle Ages, Masham developed as a very small town with milling, mining, cloth making and tanning industries. The town received its first market charter in 1251. Masham's importance as a major sheep market is the reason for the large market place and its Georgian houses. The market originally thrived because of its nearness to Jervaulx and Fountains Abbeys, with their large flocks of sheep. From 1875 the town was served by the Masham branch of the North Eastern Railway. Passenger services were stopped in December 1930 with goods traffic continuing until 1963. The station was across the River Ure at Low Burton.

Masham market days are Wednesday, Saturday and Bank Holiday Monday with a Farmers' Market every first Sunday of the month from April to September. An annual Sheep Fair is held in September. The market place, the largest in the district, is tightly bordered on its south and west sides by ranges of two- and three-storey buildings. To the south-east, lies St. Mary's Church with its large yard.

Although Masham is relatively small town it has two working breweries, Black Sheep Brewery and Theakstons, situated only a few hundred yards from one another. The Black Sheep Brewery sponsors annual folk festivals. Previous performers have included Hugh Cornwell of The Stranglers. The Masham Steam Engine & Fair Organ Rally is held annually, organised by the Masham Town Hall Association; it began in 1965 to raise money for the local town hall. The town holds an arts festival every two years. The nearest railway stations are Thirsk and Northallerton both of which are on the East Coast Main Line. Buses operate from Ripon and the town is on the A6108 road between Ripon, Leyburn, Richmond and Scotch Corner.

Newbald 6-Mile Winter Circular - Yorkshire Wolds -

Happy New Year and all the best for 2021,

Welcome back to another video this week we head to Newbald a beautiful village, located in East Yorkshire, in the heart of the Yorkshire Wold's. The village is made up of a North and a South Newbald.

We did this walk the day after Boxing Day in 2020. A lot of trails in the Yorkshire Wold's were currently covered in thick mud. Luckily, this route wasn't too bad. The only time it got a bit muddy, was along the Yorkshire Wold's Way trail, making it a great winter hike.

The route is a moderate 6-mile long trail that leads you through the dry valleys, following a small section of the Yorkshire Wold's Way. You then head onto a quiet country lane, which leads you down back into Newbald, seeing picturesque views of the rolling hills, for miles and miles.

Hampsthwaite is a large village and civil parish in Nidderdale in the Harrogate district of North Yorkshire, England. It lies on the south bank of the River Nidd 5 miles (8 km) north west of Harrogate. In the 2011 census the parish had a population of 1,083.

The centre of the village is designated as a Conservation Area. Hampsthwaite lies just outside the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, but the area to the north and west of the village is recognised as an Area of Great Landscape Value.

The toponym is of Old Norse origin, and means clearing (thwaite) of a man named Hamal.

In 1304, Edward I granted a charter to Hampsthwaite to hold an annual market and fair on the Feast of St Thomas the Martyr. The ancient parish of Hampsthwaite covered a wide area, and included the townships of Birstwith, Felliscliffe, Menwith with Darley and Thornthwaite with Padside. All these places became separate civil parishes in 1866.

Between 1875 and March 1951, the village had a station on the Nidd Valley Railway between Harrogate and Pateley Bridge.

Hampsthwaite was in the West Riding of Yorkshire until 1974, when it was transferred to the new county of North Yorkshire.

Hampsthwaite has a Village Room, the Memorial Hall for larger events, a post office, a shop, and a pub, the Joiners' Arms and Hampsthwaite Church of England Primary School (established in 1860).

The parish church is dedicated to St Thomas Becket. The tower is from the 15th century, but the remainder was restored in Perpendicular style in 1902. It is a Grade II listed building.

Hampsthwaite and Birstwith Junior Football Club is run for the benefit of children living, or attending school, within the Hampsthwaite and Birstwith area catering for boys and girls 6 to 11. Saturday morning coaching sessions are run in Hampsthwaite on Feast Field.

Hampsthwaite United Football Club has been known to exist since approximately 1954. Recent honours include the Harrogate & District Football League Division Two Championship in 2013 & Division One in 2015. The Club now play in the West Yorkshire Association Football League, Tier 13 of the National League System.

Nidderdale, historically also known as Netherdale, is one of the Yorkshire Dales (although outside the Yorkshire Dales National Park) in North Yorkshire, England. It is the upper valley of the River Nidd, which flows south underground and then along the dale, forming several reservoirs including the Gouthwaite Reservoir, before turning east and eventually joining the River Ouse.

The only town in the dale is Pateley Bridge. Other settlements include Wath, Ramsgill, Lofthouse, and Middlesmoor above Pateley Bridge, and Bewerley, Glasshouses, Summerbridge, Dacre, Darley, Birstwith, Hampsthwaite and Kettlesing below Pateley.

Nidderdale was designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1994. The AONB covers a much wider area than Nidderdale. In addition to Nidderdale itself (above Hampsthwaite), the AONB includes part of lower Wharfedale, the Washburn valley and part of lower Wensleydale, including Jervaulx Abbey and the side valleys west of the River Ure. The highest point in the Nidderdale AONB is Great Whernside, 704 metres above sea level, on the border with the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

The AONB Web site provides directions for popular walks and offers information on canoeing and kayaking, caving, climbing, cycling, fishing and horse riding.

Nidderdale was historically in the West Riding of Yorkshire, and in the Lower Division of Claro Wapentake. In the 19th century local government reforms most of the dale fell within the Pateley Bridge Poor Law Union, later the Pateley Bridge Rural Sanitary District and from 1894 Pateley Bridge Rural District. In 1937 the rural district was merged to become part of Ripon and Pateley Bridge Rural District. Hampsthwaite and Felliscliffe in the lower dale fell within Knaresborough Poor Law Union, later Knaresborough Rural Sanitary District and from 1894 Knaresborough Rural District, which merged in 1938 to become part of Nidderdale Rural District.

Since 1974 the whole dale has fallen within the Borough of Harrogate in North Yorkshire.

Nidderdale is now served by the buses of Harrogate Bus Company.
