Vacation travel video about destination Liwonde National Park in Malawi.
The Liwonde National Park is situated in Central Africa and is Malawi’s most well known game reserve.Up until 1962 unrestricted poaching and hunting almost entirely eradicated the wildlife population of the region but in 1969 it was designated as a game reserve and, in 1973, as a national park. The Shire River is the region’s lifeline and more than two thousand hippos inhabit a forty kilometre section of the park. The park’s elephants are no longer slaughtered for their valuable tusks and their numbers, too, are increasing substantially. At the park’s watering holes groups of animals repeatedly gather to drink, an ideal opportunity to observe animals in the wild. Thankfully, the Liwonde National Park is now a natural paradise once more.

Liwonde is one of two flagship wildlife reserves in Malawi, but it is very different to it’s southern relative, Majete.
Liwonde is all about big open vistas and the benign Shire river that flows through the area, attracting large herds of animals from the surrounding parched terrain.
We spent a couple of days camped just outside the park and entered daily to go on our game drives.

The beautiful road over the mountains from Mangochi city to Zomba city in Malawi was a great experience to go for a drive in Malawi road condition. Starting from the Mangochi city which is very closed to Lake Malawi and passing areas such as Ulongwe, Balaka, Liwonde, Machinga, Likwenu, Malemia, Domasi, Chilimba, Zomba and then to Blantyre. The road was going through the Malosa Forest Reserve bringing the view of Malosa Mountain peaks, followed by the great high mountain Zomba Massif. Seeing the lovely people, culture and nature take you to a different paradise in the warm heart of Africa.

I spent two nights at Mvuu Wilderness Lodge in Liwonde National Park, Malawi, in May 2016. There are sooooo many elephants and hippos on the Shire River, so wildlife spotting on safari was pretty easy! This video showcases my experience of Mvuu Lodge - fantastic comfortable accommodation, and well worth a trip! :)
