Think of Liverpool famous places and you immediately think of The Beatles and Liverpool Football Club and their famous Anfield stadium (one of the country's largest). And, of course, there's that unique Scouse accent.
The heart of Merseyside lies on the east bank of the Mersey estuary, just three miles from the sea. At this point, the Mersey is almost a mile wide, opening out inland into a three-mile-wide basin. This is one of the reasons of best places to visit in Liverpool, with one of the largest harbors in the world not dependent on tides, remains a major port for transatlantic shipping.
The origin of the city's name can be traced to 1173, when it appeared in a charter granted by Henry II. It's traditionally connected with the mythological Liver Bird (pronounced lyver), a seagull-like bird seen in the city's coat of arms. These days, Liverpool having beautiful places in Liverpool is an important trading metropolis, a university town, and financial center, as well as a key city for the Catholic and Anglican churches, both of which have bishops here.

How to have the Perfect Weekend in Liverpool, England
Our UK Rail journey has begun with our first stop in Liverpool.
If you are looking for a day trip from London or just want the perfect weekend here we have tried to see as much as possible in the birthplace of the Beatles.
After catching our train from London to Liverpool our first stop had to be the number 1 thing to see, the insane Superlambanana which has to be seen in person to be believed.
Next up a ride on the Mersey river ferry to see the city from the water, but you know we needed our coffee first and what's better than a Beatles themed cafe called the Fab 4.
A trip to Liverpool is not complete without a pp into Mathew street, where the Beatles were discovered, before popping into some vintage shops as we made our way towards the final stop - the Liverpool cathedral to see the city from above.

It's winter so we check out Liverpool Christmas Market, as well as Albert Dock, the Cavern Club and the two Liverpool cathedrals. We also have a quick look around some of the Liverpool museums including the World Museum in Liverpool, Museum of Liverpool and the Maritime Museum.
