Harrisburg, PA | A Tour of the Capital City
On this cold winter day, we take a tour of the Capitol city of Harrisburg & the community of Hershey. Harrisburg was the mid-point for the Pennsylvania cities where all the materials met to be redistributed everywhere else. Its the Capitol because of the ideal location which made it the center of the state. In this tour we experience a frozen Susquehanna, a couple of days after the Nor'easter winter storm. Then we take a further look at the capitol building and journey around town to Midtown Scholar Bookstore and Broad Street Market. We finish our tour in Hershey and Chocolate world, to get a delicious look at Hershey's history. I'll see you on tour!

I've really wanted to make an Ultimate Guide to Hersheypark for a few months now. Not only is there so much to see and do inside the park there's also lots of stuff in the Town of Hershey itself. Over the last three years I’ve made 16 trips to HersheyPark and I've learned so much about the park and Town of Hershey during that time. I'll do my very best to help you with things you can do, places to stay, tips that can help with shorter lines on the roller coasters, places to eat, and different activities and rides in the park. Things can always change and rides do go down from time to time. These tips seem to work well for me but with amusement parks plans can change quick. You would think during a stay at home order more people would be home. I was surprised to see this many people driving around linglestown, harrisburg city was mostly people walking or riding bikes.
PA drive: Downingtown to Linglestown at 3600 mph
Follows routes: PA 113, PA 100, I-76, I-283, I-83, I-81, US-322. I missed the exit and looped back at the end.

The Hotel Hershey is a resort hotel in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Established in 1933, it is a historical landmark and five-star hotel located on a hilltop overlooking Hershey, Pennsylvania, and the surrounding area. It was inducted into Historic Hotels of America, the official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, since 1991.[1] It has 276 guest rooms and 23,500 square feet (2,180 m2) of event space.[citation needed]
The hotel's architectural style is Spanish Colonial revival, including mosaic tiles and archways, and a villa-style balcony overlooking Hershey and Hershey Gardens. Historic photographs and original artwork line the halls and decorate guest room walls, as well as the Iberian Lounge, which is designed to resemble dim, fireplace-lit cigar lounges of the past.[citation needed]
History
Milton S. Hershey
During the Great Depression, Milton S. Hershey, founder of The Hershey Chocolate Company, planned for the hotel to be a recreation of the famous Heliopolis Palace Hotel, construction plans changed and were delayed due to costs, the death of Hershey's wife, Catherine, and the outbreak of World War I.[2] When construction began, the new plans drew on Mediterranean and Spanish influences.[citation needed]
Construction began in 1931 and the hotel was completed on May 23, 1932. The effort employed as many as 800 workers. The bill for the hotel was around $2 million. The Hotel officially opened on May 26, 1933. Generating income by then was not the main goal of the project. Being the height of the Great Depression, Hershey was attempting to help the people of the city by creating jobs.[3][better source needed]
In 1934, a nine-hole golf course was added to the grounds and in 1961, an outdoor swimming pool was added.[4] In 1977, a new 100 room wing was added to the hotel along with a new indoor pool and fitness center.[5] In 2001, a full service spa called The Spa At The Hotel Hershey was added. The spa offered treatments featuring chocolate, including: chocolate wraps, chocolate baths, chocolate lotion and scrubs.[6] In 2009, The Hotel Hershey completed work on a $67 million expansion and renovation project which included a redesigned exterior and lobby.

Dating back to 1967, this low-key convention resort is just off Highway 322 and 3 miles from Hersheypark.
The chocolate-themed rooms come with free WiFi, flat-screen TVs, iPod docks, coffeemakers and minifridges. Plush suites add living space or separate lounges with sofas, while some feature wet bars and dining areas. The split-level suite has a private patio.
Free perks include parking, a local shuttle and discount/free entrance to Hersheypark and other attractions. There are also indoor and outdoor pools, a spa, sports courts, a fitness center and 2 golf courses, plus multiple dining options and more than 100,000 sq ft of event space.
