Places to visit in UK | HASTINGS | East Sussex
Hastings is a town on England’s southeast coast. It's known for the 1066 Battle of Hastings, fought on a nearby field where Battle Abbey now stands. The Norman ruins of Hastings Castle, once home to William the Conqueror, overlook the English Channel. East along the shingle seafront of Stade beach, Hastings Fishermen’s Museum and Shipwreck Museum document maritime history.
As for the Norman Conquests, Hastings is not the actual location of the famous battle in 1066. That exact spot is just a few miles down the road at Battle Abbey.
However, its legacy still colours the entire town. The remains of William the Conqueror's first English castle still stand today, though centuries of warfare and erosion have taken their toll.
Today the town offers a range of attractions for the short break visitor looking for what to do in Hastings. From Britain's steepest funicular, to the meandering alleyways of the Old Town, it's a great place to explore for a few days.

Coast and Country Walks Brighton to Lewes - Sussex Walks
This walk starts from Brighton Racecourse and heads around the race track to Woodingdean and across the South Downs Way to Lewes via Kingston on the old Juggs Road. Chris passes Ashcombe Windmill and has a look around Lewes town.

Lewes is a small town built into the slopes either side of the Ouse Valley. There are many things to do in Lewes in East Sussex. Lewes is famous for many independent, antique and quirky shops, as well as historic pubs. Lewes also has a working brewery situated in the town centre and above the medieval streets stands Lewes Castle and museum.
Lewes has a small food market selling fresh, local produce, and a craft market too. Lewis has many lovely #medieval streets to explore, old English churches and twittens (alleyway). The town is dominated by the remains of a Norman castle and is also home to the house of Anne of Cleves (fourth wife of #KingHenryVlll). Lewes also has contemporary art galleries and historical sites including Priory of St. Pancras. Cliffe High Street contains Bookshops, boutiques and antique centres as well as restaurants, cafes, and pubs.

Lewes Castle
Lewes Castle is a medieval castle in the town of Lewes in East Sussex, England. Originally called Bray Castle, it occupies a commanding position guarding the gap in the South Downs cut by the River Ouse and occupied by the towns of Lewes and Cliffe. It stands on a man-made mount just to the north of the high street in Lewes and is constructed from local limestone and flint blocks.

Historic Town and Castle Walking Tour - Lewes, UK Travel Vlog
Follow us as we walk around the historic and beautiful town of Lewes in East Sussex. It’s a beautiful place to visit. There is so much history here dating over 1000 years.
We started the day by visiting the old Southover Grange gardens. They are beautiful in the summer and a great free place to visit. It is maintained by the local council and has a huge variety of trees and plants.
Next we wen to see the Anne of Cleves house, it has so much history. Dating all the way back to King Henry the 8th.
Then we went to see the ancient Lewes Priory. It was the first Cluniac priory of its kind in the UK, having been destroyed by wars, royalty changes, and other amazing history it now sits as a ruin, an impressive one however.
We then visited Lewes FC and the mound next door, it is said to date back to when the monks from the priory panned for salt and dug up the soil turning it into the mound it is today.
LEwes Castle was the highlight of the day, used as a fortress by the King in the Battle of Lewes. The castle dates back over 1000 years, if you love history this is the place for you.
We then peaked over to the old fifteenth century bookshop as it is a beautiful building atop the famous ‘Keere street’.
Lastly we finished by eating a delicious full English breakfast at trading post coffee, what more could you want then sausage, beans, bacon, toast, and eggs.
We even see Manchester United play football.

영국의 대자연을 뒤로하고 나는 유서 깊은 어느 지방 도시로 향한다. 혁명과 순교자의 도시 ‘루이스’ 이곳엔 과연 어떤 흥미로운 스토리들이 기다리고 있을까? 우선 마을의 중심부부터 살펴보기로 했다. 마을의 중심거리에서 마주한 건 청동색의 거대한 조각상이다. 처칠 수상의 이름까지 새겨진 이 아름다운 조각상은 호국 보훈의 숭고한 의미를 담고 있다. 조국을 위해 헌신한 이들의 이름들이 위령비 양 벽면에 촘촘히 박혀 있다. 오늘의 조국을 있게 한 이름 없는 영웅들을 결코 잊지 않는다. 범상치 않은 마을을 본격 탐방하기로 했다. 고풍스러운 거리 주변의 가옥들이 눈에 띈다. 고서적 가게에 들렀으나 주인은 한사코 촬영을 거부한다. 주변에 문득 ‘토마스 페인’ 이름이 시야에 들어온다. 미국 건국의 아버지라 불리는 그는 혁명의 도시와 잘 어울린다. 그가 한때 살았던 집은 기념관으로 보존되어 있으나 생각보다 초라했다. 발길을 돌려 돌아보던 중 눈길을 잡는 또 한 곳이 있다. ‘천일의 앤’ 스토리의 주인공, 앤 공주의 조그마한 박물관이다. 당시 헨리 8세 왕의 두 번째 부인이 되었던 앤 공주는 천일을 채 못 채운 왕과의 비운의 사랑으로 우리에게 알려졌다. 여러 여인을 사랑한 절대군주, 그리고 순수한 처녀에서 권력의 맛을 알아버린 왕비의 비극, 자신의 남편으로부터 처형을 당하는 사연이 나온다. 기념관 뒤뜰의 풍경이 예사롭지 않다. 나는 다시 마을의 풍경을 따라나선다. 어느 이름 모를 정원의 꽃들이 무척이나 화사해 보인다. 누구나 출입이 가능한 공공 정원, 사람들의 일상이 무척 평화롭다. 얘기를 나누는 모습이 무척 정겨워보인다. 이토록 아름다운 자연 속의 삶은 분명 축복이다.
