Districts of Barcelona

The City of Barcelona is divided into 10 administrative districts each with its own Ajuntament. The city centre districts of Ciutat Vella and L'Eixample along with Sants-Montjuïc, Gràcia and the beaches of Sant Martí are the most likely desinations for tourists. But if you live here, Les Corts, Sarrià-Sant Gervasi, Horta-Guinardó. Nou Barris and Sant Andreu are not only wildly different but also have a lot going for them.

????La Monumental????

La Monumental is a bullring in the city of Barcelona , located in the Fort Pienc district . Opened in 1914 under the name El Sport , it was renamed in 1916 with its current name. The last bullfight held was on September 25 of 2011 , which was also the last in Catalonia , after the abolition of bullfights by the Parliament on July 28 of 2010 .

The building of 1914 , work of Joaquim Raspall , had a facade of noucentista style and later it was ordered to Ignasi Mas i Morell , in collaboration with Domènec Sugranyes , to add an outer crown finished in 1916 , that is the facade that at the moment exists, of Mudejar style and Byzantine.

The square has a capacity for 19,582 spectators. It was the last bullring in Barcelona where bullfights were held , after the disappearance of the squares of El Torín and Les Arenes . Currently, the Monumental is the scene of musical acts and circus shows.

Barcelona, along the Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes - Spain 4K Travel Channel

Eixample, one of 10 districts of Barcelona, directly borders the old town (Ciutat Vella). Characteristics are long straight streets, square blocks and chamfered corners. We start our walk at the former bullring. La Monumental was designed by Manuel Joaquim Raspall i Mayol and opened in 1914. Already 1916 the building was extended by Ignasi Mas i Morell and Domènec i Gras Sugrañes in the style of Mudejar architecture. Bullfights were held here until 2011. After a referendum the bull fight was banned by the Catalan Parliament. Today, it is a location for music and circus events.
The Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes was planned and created in the context of urban expansion during the late 19th century. Today it is one of the most important transport axes of Barcelona. In this video we see the section from the Plaça de les Glòries Catalanes to the Rambla de Catalunya.
While shophisticated hotels and shops line the street at the surface, metro and urban trains operate below ground.
We turn into the Passeig de Gràcia, the splendour boulevard of Barcelona. Here you find several buildings of the Modernisme (Catalan Art Nouveau) from Antoni Gaudi and Joseph Puig i Cadafalch.
Casa Mila and Casa Batllo, both built by Antoni Gaudí, belong to the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Also noteworthy are the beautiful benches with candelabra, designed by the Catalan architect Pere Falqués i Urpí.

Barcelona is a unique city with a lot of flavor. There is one neighborhood which I think is the best and it is by far my favorite area in the city where I would live.
