Tiny Tour | Lekeitio Spain | An absolute beauty in Basque Country 2019 Autumn
Here I need to apologize for not being able to reach the island, the path is getting extremely slippery when getting close to the island and the water was constantly pushed onto the path. I really wanted to reach it, but sadly I had to give up.
Lekeitio (Spanish: Lequeitio) is a town and municipality located in the province of Biscay, in the Spanish Autonomous Community of Basque Country, 53 km (33 mi) northeast from Bilbao. The municipality has 7,293 inhabitants (2005) and is one of the most important fishing ports of the Basque coast. Tourism has an important role during the summer seasons, when the town is a resort with one beach called Isunza and the nearby Carraspio beach in the town of Mendexa.

Lekeitio / Pis Vasco. Lekeitio es un pequeño pueblo costero ubicado en la provincia de Bizkaia, en el País Vasco, al norte de España. Con su impresionante puerto pesquero, hermosas playas y una rica cultura, Lekeitio es una joya escondida que vale la pena descubrir.
El puerto de Lekeitio es uno de los principales atractivos de la ciudad. Es un lugar animado, lleno de actividad y de color, donde los barcos de pesca descargan sus capturas diarias. Aquí se pueden encontrar muchos restaurantes y bares que ofrecen mariscos y pescados frescos del día, acompañados de un buen vino blanco local.
Pero Lekeitio no es solo un pueblo de pescadores. También es un lugar donde la cultura y la historia se unen. El casco antiguo es una maravilla arquitectónica, con casas de colores y calles estrechas empedradas que invitan a pasear. La Basílica de la Asunción, ubicada en el centro de la ciudad, es un impresionante edificio gótico que data del siglo XV. Además, Lekeitio cuenta con una amplia variedad de playas, cada una con su propio encanto. La playa de Isuntza es una de las más populares, con sus aguas tranquilas y arena fina, ideal para tomar el sol y nadar.
Por último, no se puede hablar de Lekeitio sin mencionar sus fiestas más famosas: la festividad de San Pedro y la regata de traineras. La primera tiene lugar en junio y es una de las festividades más antiguas y tradicionales del País Vasco, en la que se honra al santo patrón de los pescadores con procesiones, música y bailes. La regata de traineras se celebra en septiembre y es una competición de remo entre los pueblos de la costa vasca, que atrae a miles de espectadores cada año.
En resumen, Lekeitio es un destino turístico encantador, lleno de historia, cultura y belleza natural. Si estás buscando un lugar para disfrutar de la auténtica vida costera vasca, no te pierdas este pequeño pueblo con gran encanto.

GOOSE DAY in LEKEITIO, BASQUE COUNTRY
2018 Sep 05 Day 4 -- Today, the whole town of Lekeitio was in festive mood, celebrating the San Antolín festivity with a long tradition of neck-grabbing competition of a live or rubber goose, known as the Goose Day, Antzar Eguna or Día de los Gansos. This year 2018, live geese were used and hung upside down with a rope. Participants, onboard their colorful flagships often a whaling boat or scoop, lined up to try their chance in beheading the goose. One representative of this group would then grab and pull on the neck of a hang-goose while being pulled up and down the rope by a group of men volunteers. The rhythmic pulling motion made the individual participant to bounce up/down into the air and subsequently into the water. The one who successfully beheaded the goose is the winner of this competition. The entire town was painted in blue, as the natives of Lekeitio were all dressed in a uniform blue shirt/skirt of nankeen with gingham neckerchief around their neck. The event concluded with lively music/dancing and street performances. Goose day in Lekeitio is definitely one of the craziest festivals we have ever seen.
