Number 10. St. Andrews
St. Andrews is a must-visit for anyone with an ounce of interest in golf. As part of my work i get to drive through some of the most outstanding scenery on some of Scotland's best and most scenic roads which I would like to share with you.
The whole series of clips is a drive from Glasgow along the Clyde coast and finally ending up in Ardrossan. This can easily be added to the Best of scotland road trips. Views over the River Clyde, Firth of Clyde and beyond to the Isles of Bute, Arran and Cumbrae. Passing by the historic towns of Paisley, Erskine, Port Glasgow, Greenock, Gourock, Wemyss Bay, Ardrossan and finally Saltcoats. All of these locations offer great opportunities for staycations and easily accessible daytrips from either Glasgow, Edinburgh or all over the central belt.

This place is full of great memories, in my opinion this the best place on earth. Largs is famous for many reasons, from the Battle of Largs, Pencil monument and viking connections to the Gogo burn, Marina and the ferry across to Cumbrae. Largs is a tourist town and the population does rapidly increase with day trippers from Glasgow, a visit to Nardini's World Famous Ice Cream Cafe is synonymous with a trip doon the water????

Millport | Isle of Cumbrae | Scotland’s Most Accessible Island
Known as “Scotland’s Most Accessible Island”, The Isle of Cumbrae boasts amazing scenery, walks, wildlife, experiences, and spectacular views across the River Clyde.
But there’s something else quite special about this wee island.
It is home to a collection of quirky rock formations that are scattered around the island. Over the years these rocks have become famous landmarks and they’re bound to catch your eye as you’re travelling around the island’s 10-mile outer circuit.
Cumbrae is just a short hop from the mainland, and there's plenty to do once you're there. You can hire bikes at Millport, and cycle the ten-mile route round the island - taking in the beaches and coastal views. You'll be quieter on a bike, so you'll see more of the wildlife, which includes owls, polecats, kestrels, and the occasional sea eagle. You can also play a round of golf at Millport's 18 hole golf course while enjoying stunning views of the Firth of Clyde.
Cumbrae is great for kids, too - you can't miss the painted Crocodile Rock in the bay at Millport, and if you wait for low tide you can take them to sit on it, if they dare. There's a water sports centre, and you can also hire kayaks in Millport, if you fancy exploring some of the smaller islands in the bay. Keep an eye out for the island's festivals and events, which range from country and western music to a scooter rally.
How to get here
Take the ferry to Cumbrae from Largs. The journey takes 10 minutes. No advance booking is necessary on this route. Simply turn up at Largs ticket office, buy a ticket, and go on the next available sailing.
Getting to Largs
From Glasgow
By car
Largs is about 32 miles from Glasgow, and it takes just under 50 minutes to drive. If you are travelling with an electric vehicle, two charging points are available on the island of Cumbrae outside the Royal George Hotel. Charging points are also available in Largs at the Largs Yacht Haven and the Vikingar Museum.
By train
The train from Glasgow to Largs takes 56 minutes. It's a short walk from the train station to the ferry terminal. Why not purchase a ticket from Glasgow to Cumbrae?

Lion Rock ????
You’ll find the Lion Rock sitting proudly on the east side of the Isle of Cumbrae. It’s like something straight out of the pride lands of the Lion King movie.
The pre-historic rock formation is 10 meters high, 50 meters long, and has been about for 65 million years, believe it or not.
Its unique lion shape was caused by a dyke of Labradorite rock intruding into the existing Old Red Sandstone (that’s geology talk for one rock forcing itself inside another).
Then in the last ice age, the shifting glaciers wore down the soft sandstone, exposing the labradorite dyke which has since been weathered to the shape resembling a lion that we see today:
Crocodile Rock ????
This Crocodile Rock can be found on the beach in Millport town and is the most recognisable out of all the rocks. In fact, it’s actually considered to be one of Scotland’s “quirkiest, best-known landmarks”.
Indian Rock ????
Now, this guy is slightly harder to spot – The Indian Rock. You’ll find this landmark tucked away in the trees as you’re coming round the west side of the island. Not going to lie… he’s a wee bit creepy.
The Glaidstone ????
Now, this one isn’t part of the famous ‘Cumbrae Rock Trio’, but it’s well worth a mention.
You can find the Glaidstone – pronounced ‘Glaid-stane’ – up at the very top of the island, which is at a height of 417 feet (127m). To put that into perspective, a Munro is anything over 3,000 feet so it’s certainly not the tallest peak in Scotland.
You’ll find the Glaidstone on the Inner Circuit walk.
Saying that, the views you get are incredible, and it’s 100% worth the jaunt up to see it when you’re visiting the Isle of Cumbrae.

Largs is a Beach Resort Town in North Ayrshire southwest Scotland, 31 miles north of Ayr, 33 miles west of Glasgow, popular for its cafes, restaurants, bar diners, hotels, beach, kids plays, boat trips, diving, watersports and Viking history.
Largs Train Station is about 300 yards from Largs Beach and Ferry Slip for Ferries to the Isle of Cumbrae. Regular Trains and Buses run between Largs and Ayr, or Glasgow.
North of the Ferry Slip is Largs Bay with a long Promenade, Shingle Beach, and Vast Grassland.
South of the Ferry Slip is Castle Bay also with a long Promenade, Vast Grassland and Kids Play.

You'll be quieter on a bike, so you'll see more of the wildlife, which includes owls, polecats, kestrels, and the occasional sea eagle. You can also play a round of golf at Millport's 18 hole golf course while enjoying stunning views of the Firth of Clyde.
Cumbrae is great for kids, too - you can't miss the painted Crocodile Rock in the bay at Millport, and if you wait for low tide you can take them to sit on it, if they dare. There's a water sports centre, and you can also hire kayaks in Millport, if you fancy exploring some of the smaller islands in the bay. Keep an eye out for the island's festivals and events, which range from country and western music to a scooter rally.
How to get here
Take the ferry to Cumbrae from Largs. The journey takes 10 minutes. No advance booking is necessary on this route. Simply turn up at Largs ticket office, buy a ticket, and go on the next available sailing.
Getting to Largs
From Glasgow
By car
Largs is about 32 miles from Glasgow, and it takes just under 50 minutes to drive. If you are travelling with an electric vehicle, two charging points are available on the island of Cumbrae outside the Royal George Hotel. Charging points are also available in Largs at the Largs Yacht Haven and the Vikingar Museum.
By train
The train from Glasgow to Largs takes 56 minutes. It's a short walk from the train station to the ferry terminal. Why not purchase a ticket from Glasgow to Cumbrae?

Lion Rock ????
You’ll find the Lion Rock sitting proudly on the east side of the Isle of Cumbrae. It’s like something straight out of the pride lands of the Lion King movie.
The pre-historic rock formation is 10 meters high, 50 meters long, and has been about for 65 million years, believe it or not.
Its unique lion shape was caused by a dyke of Labradorite rock intruding into the existing Old Red Sandstone (that’s geology talk for one rock forcing itself inside another).
Then in the last ice age, the shifting glaciers wore down the soft sandstone, exposing the labradorite dyke which has since been weathered to the shape resembling a lion that we see today:
Crocodile Rock ????
This Crocodile Rock can be found on the beach in Millport town and is the most recognisable out of all the rocks. In fact, it’s actually considered to be one of Scotland’s “quirkiest, best-known landmarks”.
Indian Rock ????
Now, this guy is slightly harder to spot – The Indian Rock. You’ll find this landmark tucked away in the trees as you’re coming round the west side of the island. Not going to lie… he’s a wee bit creepy.
The Glaidstone ????
Now, this one isn’t part of the famous ‘Cumbrae Rock Trio’, but it’s well worth a mention.
You can find the Glaidstone – pronounced ‘Glaid-stane’ – up at the very top of the island, which is at a height of 417 feet (127m). To put that into perspective, a Munro is anything over 3,000 feet so it’s certainly not the tallest peak in Scotland.

Saying that, the views you get are incredible, and it’s 100% worth the jaunt up to see it when you’re visiting the Isle of Cumbrae.

Second video Jackie and I made of our trip up to Largs in Ayrshire, West Scotland????????????????????????????. Knock Hill was an iron age hill fort just to the north of Largs. Standing at 217m above the Firth of Clyde 'The Knock' offers incredible views over Largs, Cumbrae, Bute, Arran and the Clyde Muirshiel Park.
