Poppy Super Bloom! Where to see the poppies. Lake Elsinore is a great place to visit. Walker Canyon
Where to see Poppies near Los Angeles. Lake Elsinore and the Walker Canyon Preserve. This is the 2019 Super Bloom so check what is going on there currently. Lake Elsinore is a hidden gem to see some history too. My own family had an apricot ranch there in the early 1910s so we are connected to this amazing place. The Ortega Highway is another wonderful way to bet here as well.

Super Bloom is a rare phenomenon that happens once in a decade. Southern California has received record-setting rainfall this winter, creating conditions favorable to a super bloom, when wildflowers blanket hillsides in epic proportions.
Most of those folks flocked to Walker Canyon, which was even closed for a time because of overcrowding.

Exploring California's Highway 39 - Closed For Over 40 Years
California State Route 39 as it heads into the mountains north of Azusa has been called California's Forbidden Highway or California's Forgotten Highway, as the last four and a half miles of it have been closed since 1978, preventing it from connecting with State Route 2. Because of the closure and dead end, the road sees very little traffic, despite being only miles from the second largest city in the United States.
In this video, we drive up the road through the Angeles National Forest (the same road part of Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift was filmed on) and check out what there is to see along the way. We then explore the section of road that has been closed for over 40 years, a road that was once considered one of the most scenic in California.

10 places to see stunning spring wildflowers
Get your bloom on this spring with a visit to one of these flower-filled destinations.
1. Texas Hill Country - The rolling hills outside Austin get blanketed in bluebonnets from mid-March to mid-April.
2. Anza-Borrego Desert - This arid region is known for its super blooms of colorful wildflowers.
3. Great Smoky Mountains National Park - This park is nicknamed the Wildflower National Park for its 1,500 species of flowering plants.
4. Crested Butte - Come early summer, this Colorado mountain town enjoys red columbine, glacier lilies and Indian paintbrush.
5. White Mountains - Head to these New Hampshire mountains in June to see lupines in bloom.
6. Shenandoah National Park - Late March sees a variety of wildflowers blooming in the park's low lying areas.

HOW TO HIKE TO THE PEAK OF SITTON PEAK? Lake Elsinore, CA USA 2021
This hike starts from the parking lot across from the Ortega Oaks Candy Store. You will need an Adventure pass to parking in the parking lot, the price is $5 for the day. To find out a little more information about the Adventure pass click on this link.
The address is 34950 Ortega HWY, Lake Elsinore. Sitton Peak, via Bear Ridge, a nice little 10 mile hike, featuring 2,240' of gain, with the last half mile the most fun, challenging and rewarding. The whole hike can be completed around 4 1/2 hours depending on how fast you go, how long you stay at the peak and how many breaks you take along the way.
