Mini vs Maxi Adventure across the Eastern Cape 2011
The Mini vs Maxi Adventure across the Eastern Cape was a Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Agency Tourism Month 2011 initiative where bloggers were invited to go on an adventure through the Eastern Cape. The idea was to show that the Eastern Cape was made up of both big and small adventures and that you can get to them and enjoy them in any kind of vehicle. The two teams consisted of three team members each with Team Maxi driving a big 4x4 and Team Mini in a sedan. It wasn't a competition as each team had a different itinerary to follow over the four days. Each team was given a video camera to capture their progress and this footage was edited into a couple of minutes which was showed at the launch of Tourism Month. I was part of Team Mini which can be seen in the second half of the video.

85 students from Trinity Academy in Edinburgh visited Kariega Game Reserve and Farmerfield school, a small rural school near our reserve in the Eastern Cape, towards the end of July 2016.

African dancing for a Sangoma
Three or so hours later we arrive at St Lucious and the place where you purchace the tickets for the hippo safari. You have to get them in advance or plan on being dissappointed. While we were ther we went into the curio shop. They sell local stuff. Now remember our in country host is Makosi Hood and here in SA when you meet a Sangoma, tradition says you must show respect and do they show it! Out came the drum and the shop keeper started singing and dancing then was joined by her coworker on the drums. She danced herself into exhaustion. It was all very fantastic and curious because we westerners are not used to this kind of diplay. I was told that it is not very often that a Sangoma will travel and for one to show up unexpectedly must be met as a good sign and respect for the elders must be given. She honored all of us with her praises to God and her ancestors. It was very moving. We were also told to expect this at anytime while Makosi Hood is with us.
