Mijas: a BEAUTIFUL White Village in Spain

In this video, I travel to Mijas and take a walking tour around the village. Mijas Pueblo is one of the most beautiful white-washed villages in Andalucia in Spain. It is located in the region of Costa del Sol and it is around 30 km away from both Malaga and Marbella. You will find this village at an altitude of 400 meters and about 10km from the coast.

The history of the village goes back to the Bronze Age. Visiting Mijas feels like you have been taken back in time, you can clearly see the Roman and Arab influence. This village was called Tarnisa in Roman times, but when the Arabs captured Andalucia, they changed the name to Mixa, and then, when the Spanish re-conquered the village, it was renamed to Mijas.

????Potes????

This municipality is one of the most attractive in Cantabria thanks to its geographical peculiarities . Potes is a flat territory surrounded by mountains where the powerful houses of the Mendoza and the Manriques developed their medieval struggles. In more recent times, 1836, the great violinist Jesús de Monasterio was born here.

The town of Potes, capital of the small municipality, is located in the center of the Liébana region, where the Deva and Quiviesa rivers meet . Surrounded by a spectacular landscape and located at the confluence of the four valleys of the Region, the town reveals its rich history at every step.

It has been mentioned in documentary form since the middle of the 9th century and from the end of the Middle Ages it was linked to the Casa del Marqués de Santillana, first, and that of the Infantado, later.

Potes is known as the town of bridges (hence its name) and towers . In a special way, those of Infantado (today the venue for exhibitions) and that of Orejón de la Lama, both from the 15th century, stand out.

The set of neighborhoods in the old part retains a great popular flavor and a lot of charm; its alleys and mansions (most with coats of arms) help the visitor to imagine past times full of history.

Undoubtedly one of the most relevant aspects of Potes and the entire region is the gastronomic . The town has a good number of restaurants of all styles and categories where you can taste a wide variety of dishes. The lebaniego stew is one of its culinary stars, based on the typical chickpeas of the area (small and tender), cecina or meat, cabbage and stuffing.

The meats are also top quality in Potes, since we are in an eminently livestock area . Big game dishes (wild boar and roe deer) and river fish such as trout and salmon from the Deva are also well-deserved. Artisan cheeses are another of the most exquisite snacks in the area, along with homemade desserts, such as frisuelos, rice pudding, lamb's lettuce and the typical sequillos from Potes.

Special mention should be made of the famous artisanal liquors, the pomace and the tostadillo . Around the pomace, a very popular festival has been consolidated, which is held annually in November in order to promote a product that is manufactured in Alquitaras with the harvest of the many vineyards in the area. This popular liquor is the ideal complement to another of the typical drinks of the Lebaniega region, the tea of the port.

All the typical gastronomic products can be found gathered in the traditional market that is held every Monday in the Plaza de Potes. It is a market with deep historical roots , a traditional meeting point where the people of Lébania exchanged their agricultural products.

Potes and its region offer all kinds of leisure alternatives, both cultural, sports and natural. It offers the visitor all kinds of facilities to practice activities such as hiking , mountain biking , equestrian tourism , climbing , ski touring , paragliding , hunting , fishing , ..., and many others that would be too extensive to list.

New farmhouse: not brand new, although it was built almost 10 years ago, but for a particular family situation and was therefore never occupied. It is built with the best details and qualities on a plot of almost 3 hectares. On the ground floor we have, from the entrance porch, a large bright living room with fireplace, 3 bedrooms with fitted wardrobes, a very functional kitchen with pantry and 2 bathrooms of excellent qualities and well equipped. And if we go outside and access the sun terrace, there we find a large bedroom created in the attic, with a spectacular view of the Xiquena Castle and all the nearby mountains, as it has 360º views. Apart from this attic, we find a boiler room and storage rooms created around the solarium, which enjoys panoramic views of many miles around the Sierra de María Natural Park - Los Vélez. It has a large 50,000 litre aljibe (water deposit) for drinking water. A good part of the plot is fenced and there is an access road to the property.
Predominant location on the slopes of the Sierra de la Muela, opposite the Castillo de Xiquena and Mahimón, within the Sierra de María Natural Park - Los Vélez.
It is located about 5 kms from Vélez Blanco, 7 kms from Vélez Rubio, near where Murcia Region borders Andalusia, in the north of Almería province.
