Kırklareli Province is a province in northwestern Turkey on the west coast of the Black Sea. The province neighbours Bulgaria to the north along a 180 kilometers (110 miles) long border. It borders the province of Edirne to the west and the province of Tekirdağ to the south and province of Istanbul to the southeast. Kırklareli is the capital city of the province. The province's and its central city's name means the land of the forties in Turkish and it may refer either to the forty Ottoman ghazis sent by the sultan Murad I to conquer the city for the Ottoman Empire in the 14th century or to the forty churches reported to be situated in the region before the Ottoman conquest, as attested by the former name of Kırklareli (Kırk Kilise in Turkish; Σαράντα Εκκλησιές). There is a memorial on a hilltop in Kırklareli city, called Kırklar Anıtı (the Memorial of the Forties in Turkish) to honor the Ottoman conquerors (For more on the name's origins, see Kırklareli). The province is bisected by the Yıldız (Istranca) mountain range. The north and northeastern parts of the province are among the least populated and under developed parts of Turkey. The districts to the south and west are more populated because the land is better suited for agriculture and industrial development. The north and eastern parts of the province are dominated by forests. Therefore, forestry is an important means of living in these areas. Fishing is done along the Black Sea coast.
Kırklareli is the capital of the province, but the Lüleburgaz is the largest city in the province.

The province of Kırklareli is an important region for viticulture and winemaking. A syrup called Hardaliye, made of grape, cherry leaves and mustard seeds, is a non-alcoholic beverage special to the region.
Kırklareli province is divided into eight districts, Babaeski, Demirköy, Kırklareli Merkez, Kofçaz, Lüleburgaz, Pehlivanköy, Pınarhisar and Vize.

Overnight in Kırklareli, the Romanian part of Turkey
12. March 2021. Turkey. Kırklareli is a city in the European side of Turkey. Most of the inhabitants of the city are descendants of Turks who formerly lived in Thessaloniki until the First Balkan War of 1912. In 1923 most of the 3700 inhabitants of Notia, the only Muslim village of the Megleno-Romanians in northern Greece settled here. Most of their descendants still speak Romanian at home as their first language. We didn't find any Romanians, but I think maybe we found some Romanian influence in the form of food. Anyway, it was just a quick overnight, along the way to Bulgaria from Bursa.

Anfang März 2022 werde ich mich in Saarbrücken vor meiner Haustür auf mein Fahrrad setzen und losfahren: Durch den Balkan, über die Türkei, Kasachstan und den Südkaukasus, über das Pamirgebirge nach China mit dem Ziel Südostasien. So lautet zumindest derzeit der Plan. Wirklich sicher ist derzeit eigentlich nur, dass ich zwischen 10 und 12 Monaten unterwegs sein werde. Den Verlauf meiner Reise möchte ich für mich und für Interessierte dokumentieren. In Text, Bild und Video.

Stereotypes are a complex phenomenon that can often provide interesting cognitive experiences. It is no different in the case of Turkey. Looking at it from the perspective of Polish isolationism and the feeling of the besieged last stronghold of Christianity, as claimed by our isolationistic and nationalistic right wing leaders, when crossing its border one could expect herds of hostile Islamists, as well as general mess and disorder. Let the next episodes show how sick and untrue this idea would be.

Opuszczamy Sozopol i Bułgarię, udajemy się tam gdzie mapa w nawigacji Niunia nie sięga, czyli do Turcji i Istambułu.
Stereotypy to złożone zjawisko, które często może dostarczyć ciekawych wrażeń poznawczych. Nie inaczej jest w wypadku Turcji. Patrząc na nią z perspektywy polskiego izolacjonizmu i poczucia oblężonej ostatniej twierdzy chrześcijaństwa, przekraczając jej granicę można by się spodziewać tabunów napierających wrogich islamistów oraz ogólnego syfu i bałaganu. Jak daleko chore i nieprawdziwe byłoby to wyobrażenie niech pokażą kolejne odcinki.

WE TRIED TURKISH STREET FOOD IN ISTANBUL
In today’s episode we head over to the Asian side of Istanbul to try some delicious Turkish street food!
We start our street food tour with some Gözleme, Dolmas and Ayran at Bütme Evi, which honestly is the best breakfast we have had so far in Turkey. After our breakfast we head out into the streets of Moda to find some coffee, because no breakfast would be complete without coffee! We stumble upon Fazil Bey’s where we try Turkish coffee for the first time before heading back into the streets to see what else we can find!
We come across a little stall selling sweets where we purchased a sweet and crunchy baked dough, dipped in syrup. We honestly have no idea what the name is but the sign said Kesme, if you could tell it what it is be sure to share it with us in the comment section down below. The treat was only 6 Turkish Lira and absolutely delicious! Afterwards we head over for some well deserved ice cream at Ali Usta’s the perfect snack to take a break from the heat.
There is one snack left that we spotted on our way to Ali Usta’s and that is Pide! We order a cheese pide at Pide Sun, which is undeniably the best side we have ever had in Turkey. The pide is crunchy and filled with so much gooey cheese, what is not to love?! Full of all the delicious Turkish street food we decide to take a break from eating and head over to the European side!
After running to the ferry, great for burning of all those calories, we sit down at Beyzade for some baklava and Turkish tea. A small order is turned into a feast when we are served with baklava, a different type of baklava to try from the front counter, fruits, milk and nuts! After enjoying our baklava we head over to Taksim square to try the last Turkish street food that we have on our list: Dürüm!
