We visited during Thadingyut Festival (the Myanmar Festival of Lights) where thousands of candles are lit underneath the pagoda - a truly UNMISSABLE experience!
Although it’s an important buddhist pilgrimage, the pagoda isn’t often visited by foreign tourists. So how do you get to Golden Rock from Yangon? And is it really worth it? In this travel guide, we give a foreigner's first impressions of Kyaiktiyo and the Thadingyut festival itself.

We stayed on the mountaintop at an expensive, but pretty nice hotel called Kayak Hto. We booked though booking.com and it cost us £65 for one night. This was a slightly higher price due to the festival, but worth it for the short walk to the pagoda!

2) Lunch at 7 resort beach.
3) Afternoon walk at U bein bridge.

Wai Bu Sayardaw's Memorials
This video was taken by me during my visit to Wai Bu Chaung, Kyaukse Town, Mandalay, Myanmar on 6th September 2012.
This small building called Ariya Thain Daw was blessed by the famous monks (widely known as
and regarded as arahats, in Myanmar) Wai Bu Sayardaw, Sun Lun Sayardaw, Yay Lae Sayardaw, Thain Taung Tawya Sayardaw and Nyaunt Lunt Sayardaw.
This building was donated by the father in-law of my dad's grand pa.
Near this building there is a shabby hut & a jadi donated by U Pyawt (ဦးေပ်ာ့), the grand father of my dad. My dad is the one giving explanation to me. This shabby hut (not included in this video) was the first dwelling (offered by a layman, U Pyawt) accepted by the Ven. Wai Bu sayardaw. It was said that Sayardaw accepted the dwelling on condition - only if the construction should last 1 whole day.
